Friday Forecast

7:28AM

DAYS 1-5 (MARCH 25-29)…
Unsettled day as we pass briefly through the warm sector of a low pressure area passing north of the region. Enough cold air is around this morning in southern NH for a few icy spots where drizzle is occurring but that will fade quickly as it warms up later in the morning. Preceding the warmth is also areas of fog. Numerous rain showers will cross the region at midday with a cold front from the west, after which some partial improvement will take place during this afternoon, though there may be one more round of showers with a final trough late in the day. High pressure builds in for the weekend, but its center being closer to the Canadian Maritimes means that the influence of the ocean may be a little more prominent along and close to the coast, at least in terms of temperature, and possibly in terms of some low cloudiness at times, during the weekend. The next larger scale low pressure system arrives Monday with a good chance of rain, then departs Tuesday and introduces a brief shot of colder air.
TODAY: Cloudy through early afternoon with area of fog and drizzle into mid morning, some freezing drizzle southern NH, then rain showers likely from west to east later morning through early afternoon. Breaking clouds but still a chance of passing rain showers mid afternoon on. Highs in the 50s to lower 60s. Wind light variable early becoming S 10-20 MPH then shifting to W later in the day with higher gusts.
TONIGHT: Clearing. Lows in the 30s. Wind NW 5-15 MPH.
SATURDAY: Mostly sunny through some lower clouds may be more dominant over Cape Cod mainly afternoon. Highs in the 40s, coolest coast. Wind NE to E 5-15 MPH.
SATURDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear to partly cloudy, but may turn mostly cloudy near eastern coastal areas. Lows in the 30s. Wind light E to SE.
SUNDAY – EASTER: Low clouds may persist in some coastal areas with sun further inland. Highs upper 40s coast to near 60 well inland. Wind light SE to S.
MONDAY: Cloudy. Rain likely. Lows in the 40s. Highs in the 50s.
TUESDAY: Clearing and windy. Lows in the 30s. Highs in the 40s.

DAYS 6-10 (MARCH 30-APRIL 3)…
Fair with a warming trend March 30-31. Chance of rain showers with mild air April 1. Fair and cooler April 2. Chance of a rain or snow shower and colder April 3.

DAYS 11-15 (APRIL 4-8)…
Mainly dry with below normal temperatures early in the period then a threat of some precipitation later in the period.

  1. Good morning and thank you, TK. I’m working on finding my closest Wunder station. From what I can tell, until I get a new weather station, it is 37.4 and drizzly (that I can actually tell without a weather station 🙂 ) in the country!!

  2. Good morning and thank you TK. Was 41 at the house when I left with very light drizzle and a light fog. Beautiful Spring morning, Not!

      1. I suppose. As BB says, it is what it is. AND it is SPRING and this
crapola weather goes with it. Looking at the Euro temperature grids, I see many 40s along the coast interspersed with a few
        better days. 😀

Let’s get the Crap over with and really move into Spring.

  3. Thanks TK !

As best as I can tell, the warm front hasn’t reached Marshfield yet. Winds appear calm with some fog, visibility perhaps 1 to 2 miles.

  4. How are you feeling, Tom? You’re a math teacher, is that correct, Tom?
I teach Spanish. Do you want me to help and correct any papers or exams this weekend? Haha

    1. I’m feeling really good Captain Fantastic, thanks ! With the 3rd artery now having blood and oxygen flowing through it again, I feel so much less tired.

The biggest thing the next year to two will be to take the medication so that the red blood cells are slippery. The body’s instinct will be to clot the red blood cells around the foreign object that is the stent.

My district has been so supportive and with the quiz given the other day, the substitute in for me, who has a math background, will follow the rubric and grade it. 🙂 🙂 🙂

      1. Wonderful news Tom. You are a quiet fighter and I know you will fight those cells in your strong but quiet way. They don’t have a chance

  5. Tom, I See wind at Marshfield has gone around to 190 Degrees with temp up to 51.
Me thinks the front has passed there. 😀

  6. Thank you for your forecast, TK.

I’m with JP Dave on this type of weather. It gets me down, plain and simple. I realize it shouldn’t, alas …

Tom, I hope you’re doing better.

    1. I had to chuckle last night when Harvey (had to watch Harvey due to basketball!)
said he expected the warm air by the end of the morning commute.
I said sure Harvey, on what planet do you reside. 😀 😀 😀

11AM Logan is reporting 37 Degrees, however the wind was Calm, indicating
front is about to pass, maybe. 😀

        1. Well he blew this one. 😀
And I do not think he is better than Eric. On par, perhaps, but NOT better.

              1. Love Eric great guy and I’m not opposed to his more aggressive style – similar to Pete B. – just not one I tend to use myself. 🙂

              1. Are they aggressive because of their style or because the station insists. I know for a fact the answer to that question when it comes to Pete. I’ll be surprised if it does not apply to Eric

As far as the best, personal preference as far as I am concerned.

                1. I think they just both have and enjoy that style. Pete has talked about it openly in the past. I don’t hold it against either one. In fact, Eric mentioned on air this evening that “the first 2 weeks of April look mighty cold” which is a very bold statement to put on the air. The anchors “didn’t know what to say” basically, and they made mention of being left speechless. 😀

  7. Tom, you really don’t me even looking at your math assessments, haha!! We want the math scores of your students to go up and improve. I am one of God’s most illogical illogical creatures!!!!
If it wasn’t for the kindest calculus professor ever, I’d still be in college trying to pass Calc 170. If we had math and science MCAS back in the day, I’d still be in high school.
I am sure you will agree, we, teachers, are an interesting breed. At our place, we yell at our colleagues for coming in sick and tell them to go home, but we will come in and teach from our deathbed. I was being prepped for emergency surgery once and was worried that my sub plans weren’t up-to-date!!!!
I am so glad you are feeling better, Tom! The papers and kids will be there. You need to take of yourself!

    Happy Easter weekend, all!!!

  8. Logan still 39 at 1PM. Sure looks like the warm air wants to come rushing in along the
coast. The coast, the 1st to cool and the last to warm!!

  9. If one looks at this surface map, it is NOT difficult to imagine that it might NOT
get through and we have to wait for the COLD front for the coast to WARM up some.
    😀 😀

New England Weather. Gotta Love it!

  10. Still calm, cool, and somewhat foggy in Woburn. You can tell it wants to warm up soon…just not here yet. I must be honest, I expected it hours ago. I suppose we were overdue for a stubborn and reluctant warm sector.

      1. I sure hope so that far south! If not then something is way off. 😉

Gradient just not strong enough to really get that warm air up across the entire region before the front from the west sweeps in anyway.

          1. In a regional sense, you’re pretty far south from where I am. We are still calm and fairly cool with light fog, though the warm air is just above me. You can make out stratus moving along swiftly in a southerly wind just above the layer of cool air at the ground and the sun is even trying to poke out at times but not having much success yet.

  11. Hey TK. I have not had a chance to review the long term. I’m assuming the pattern remains progressive with quick peaks and troughs in the temps and in precip chances. However, do you see anything in the long term to suggest more longstanding warmth? Thank you as always TK.

  12. 45 in North Reading. Hey Barry Burbank, where is that 74 high you promised me last week for today?

  13. Just hit 60 in north Attleboro, and it’s 58 in Foxboro, it’s mighty beautiful out, very spring like

  14. Today is a textbook example of why spring in March and April is often a misnomer at the coast. I believe all the reports from Charlie and others about springlike conditions WHERE THEY LIVE. But, Boston and other coastal locales often offer a different story. It’s just not pleasant outside, period. Upper 30s to low 40s, raw and dismal. Don’t be surprised coastal dwellers if we see more coastal coolness and clouds tomorrow than forecast. The high is not in a great position for us this time of year. In fact, it may cause a NE flow to set up, which will cool things off at the coast quite a bit and may lead to lingering or persistent cloudiness. Will we at the coast get out of the 40s tomorrow? I doubt it.

    1. 12Z Euro has 40s along the coast BOTH Saturday and Sunday for a truly MISERABLE EASTER WEEKEND!!!!!!!!!!!

      1. Indeed, I must say I didn’t fully trust sunny and 50s version of the Easter Weekend forecast. We have a Maritime high, a NE flow, a cool ocean, and it’s late March. Recipe for 40s. I do think we’ll see the sun from time to time, and Sunday looks better than Saturday. Looking ahead, early April still looks quite cool (and sometimes cold). Depending on where the core cold wants to place itself, we could see a couple of days not getting out of the low to mid 30s. I do remember several days like that in early April 1997, post-blizzard. Then it warmed up rather dramatically.

    1. 62 here to, my wife is leaving work early to get out of that dismal cool weather, 35 min ride to warmth.

    1. That is an awesome loop. Amazing how sharp the cutoff was between a lot of snow and nothing at all.

      1. Oops, this weather has me so down, I don’t know where I am.

Indeed, and we think our weather is crazy!

  15. I’m a tad confused by the discussion as to what spring is. Is it really about what spring is or what we perceive spring to be or what we want it to be. Spring on the coast is cooler…spring inland will be a bit warmer…spring rains…spring can offer us snow…spring has warm days…spring has cold days. That, I safely believe, I can state as fact. I, for one, am going to cherish and enjoy every God given day I have on this planet. Right now I am looking out the window at a world that is beginning to green up and come alive from its winter nap. I cannot think of anything that is more beautiful.

Just my silly two cents 🙂

    1. I think you hit it just about right.

I know what Spring is and we are experiencing it today.
However, it does not mean I have to like it. Today’s weather Sucks
here on the coast as it will tomorrow and Sunday. It blow chunks and
we good citizens should not have to be subjected to this Crap!
That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

Yes this is my 69th Spring of my life and I have NOT gotten used to this
      Crap yet and NEVER will.

And there is my 2 cents or a nickle’s worth. 😀

      1. I don’t mind it a bit. It’s usually nice. But it’s typically cloudy, but at least most of the time it’s mild. Every spring I’m thankful I don’t live on coast for this reason. It’s typically warmer just inland on a daily basis.

  16. In this part of the country, Spring stands for both volatility and contrast much moreso than it ever stands for lengthening days of warm sunshine, most especially closer to the coast and in the mountains and hills.

I have made it all the way to 44 in Woburn so far. 😉 I have a feeling if I get into the 50s it will happen after 6PM and briefly. That’s ok with me. I think it’s fascinating. Only minor frustration from a forecasting standpoint that it didn’t warm up as expected in many locations. But that’s ok – no disaster.

  17. My wife just got here and she’s says holy moly, she says her mood completely did a 180 as so as she walked off the train.

  18. 58 in Sutton. If I knew what direction house faces (need to figure that out when I actually have time), I’d tell you it is grey in that direction but sun is shining overhead!

  19. Sutton, Sutton Who has the Sutton.

Are you near Pleasant Valley? I have actually been there a few times. 😀

    1. I have no idea. I haven’t had time to explore. Mac and son played Pleasant Valley a number of times. He loved Sutton which was one reason I was happy with the move. We have water (fishable water) all around us…..come on out!

House faces S 161 degrees. W is off the side of the house with no windows (all the wonderful new ideas to save energy). I may have to move if I can’t sit in the window and watch many approaching storms.

  20. As a P.S. to my point the other day about CPC’s 8-14, they now have this area in below normal temperatures, as expected. From a couple days that forecast covered a time that would start out mild and turn cold, hence the “normal” for the period. Today’s forecast coverage April 2-8 of which 5 or 6 of those days should be solidly colder than average.

          1. Nothing definitive. Just have to watch for some late flakes when we get some early April cold. So far not a pattern that produces out-of-season significant snow. Too flat.

    1. I can’t find a comment from me at 4:33 or one from you. But that is my fault. We just had the closing from hell….lawyers on both sides have said the same…so my mind is totally Unfocused
