Great Summer Weather Ahead!

8:45PM

Low pressure passing north of New England through Wednesday will drag couple fronts and troughs across the region. For this reason, there will be some risk of showers and thunderstorms from late today through late Wednesday afternoon. A pool of cool air aloft will still be nearby on Thursday, so even though I don’t have them in the forecast at this point, there may still be a shower threat, especially over the hills of north central MA and southwestern NH. But overall, a great stretch of weather will be getting underway on Thursday, and will last through the 4th of July weekend! More summery air will dominate the region as July begins, though I do not see any excessive heat at this time.

Here are the details for eastern MA and nearby RI & southern NH…

TONIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Scattered showers and thunderstorms after 11PM. Patchy fog after 3AM. Low 62 to 67. Wind S up to 10 mph.

WEDNESDAY: Partly sunny. Patchy fog with scattered showers and thunderstorms until 10AM. Isolated showers and thunderstorms after noon. High 78 to 83. Wind SW up to 10 mph.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy. Low 57 to 62. Wind W 5 to 15 mph.

THURSDAY: Partly cloudy. High 75 to 80. Wind W 10 to 20 mph.

FRIDAY: Mostly sunny. Low 59. High 82.

SATURDAY: Partly cloudy. Low 61. High 84.

SUNDAY: Mostly sunny. Low 63. High 87.

MONDAY – INDEPENDENCE DAY: Partly cloudy. Low 68. High 84.

  1. There was very heavy rain – perhaps with some embedded hail – at 3:00 this morning. A fair amount of thunder and lightning but the rain was too loud to really hear it. It was a fast mover.

    Sunny and summery this morning!

  2. Beautiful summer weather coming the next few days. Then over the holiday weekend the humidity creeps up.
A way to know if the day is humid is looking at the overnight low temperatures. The lower they are the more comfortable the day will be. When the lows are in the mid 60s or higher a humid day is on tap.

  3. Steam city down here on the south shore this morning. Its very noticeable transitioning from A/C to the air outside…….Tropical system in the Bay of Campeche looks rather healthy this morning on satellite pictures. That area of Mexico well south of Brownsville, TX sure seems to have been hit a lot the last few seasons.

  4. Arlene forecasted to be a strong tropical storm when it makes landfall in Mexico. At least parts of south Texas will get some rain from this but that area needs a lot more than what is forecasted and this is no drought busting rain event.

  5. As I look north, there are a few lines of cumulus clouds that are gaining some height. It is still very humid down here. In fact, the wind is very lightly onshore adding to the humidity and I’m wondering, maybe creating a little local convergence. The sun is out adding warmth. Maybe a storm is going to pop up south and east of Boston this afternoon.

  6. Also, in this rather light wind flow, some warmer waters have crept closer to the beaches. The Boston Harbor buoy is reporting a water temp of 66F and even Portland, ME is reporting a harbor temp of 61F.

    1. Wow Tom – thanks for posting the temps – hope they keep rising. We don’t head to Humarock until August 20 so there’s time!

The wind has been moderate at times here today and keeping it more comfortable than I think it would be otherwise.

      1. As of 3:00 pm Boston Buoy is now at 69F! I never thought that type of warmth made it that far north.

Could there be a thermometer malfunction?

        1. That doesn’t seem right – we haven’t really had that many warm days have we? Last summer was hot and hotter. Does anyone remember how high the temp was then?

          1. Hi Vicki and Philip.

I think its accurate……(at 6pm, it was back down to 61F). Earlier today, the wind was light onshore, which brings in the warmer surface water. This evening, when the wind went westerly, the warm surface water was moved out to sea and replaced by cooler water from below, a process called upwelling. Anyhow, I was still amazed that the water was that mild, given as you said Vicki, the weather we have been seeing.

  7. Ok, well…it was reported as 61F on one of the newscasts, I cant remember which (I pretty much caught them all). But on the NWS website, the current water temp is reporting 68F in Boston Harbor. I’m thinking of hitting a Marshfield beach tomorrow, so, we’ll give the water a test and see what its like. 🙂

    1. I’m jealous!!! We are all thinking of heading to Humarock (or Good Harbor Beach) on Saturday. It’s time !!!! Enjoy tomorrow Tom!

  8. I should have added that it is an absolutely glorious evening! Sun, mild temps, low humidity and enough of a breeze to keep the mosquitoes away!
