  1. Thank you TK. Another beauty!!
Let’s see how long we can keep the East wind away today.

We are starting out the day with the following at Boston Buoy:

  2. If anyone truly is in winter withdrawal …..

    kimmirutweather.com

blizzard, current visibility is about 20 feet

Cape Cod bound, have a good day all !!

  3. As of 11AM, wind has gone NE at Logan. There it goes. It didn’t take long.

What is this 14 stright days of EAST WIND?? Sure seems like it. It was ALL last week, this weekend and yesterday and today!

      1. Yup, even a tad early. I was hoping for a stay of execution.
No such luck. Boston cannot avoid the East wind in Spring.

  4. Tom, indeed the Kimmirut webcam got at least two hits today (from you and me). Epic blizzard up there as the low stalls just south of Nunavut.

Enjoy Cape Cod! I’m sure the grounds crews are getting the diamonds ready for Cape Cod League, the restaurant proprietors have their contractors doing maintenance work in preparation for the summer season, and National Seashore folks are doing post-winter cleanup of the beaches.

        1. That makes 4.

I’m sure there’s a Kimmirutian who’s viewing webcams of Boston right now, marveling at the sight of green grass, flowers, and sunshine.

  5. We’re in a tranquil period, clearly. But, the atmosphere in parts of North America is far from calm. In the lower 48 we’ve seen the snows in Colorado and rains in Texas, along with severe storms across the mid-section of our country. Meanwhile, Environment Canada has posted blizzard and winter storm warnings from coast to coast – from B.C., the Yukon, Northwest Territories, Nunavut, Northern Quebec, to Newfoundland and Labrador (I believe that low that was spinning off our coast last week is responsible for the havoc up in Newfoundland and Labrador where up to 16 inches of snow is falling).

  6. Thanks tk 🙂
Another beautiful day, truck is saying 60 degrees. Saw lawns being watered this morning.

    1. Been fab weather for outside work. I got a lot done this past weekend and my crappy lawn actually looks good without having done anything except 1 rake and a 1st mow to pick up the loose crap. 🙂

      1. I’ve been asked to do something with our lawn this weekend.
I need to plant some grass. By this weekend, should be safe
to accomplish that task. It also means I have to turn the water on
        for the outside spigot. 😀

        1. If you need to re-seed more than 50% of the lawn, you’re better off waiting until the Fall. Anything more than spot treatments to fill a few bare spots at this point and you’re giving weeds and open invitation.

          1. Can’t wait. My wife wants it to look decent
this year. I’ll see what I can do. 😀

            thanks

            1. Don’t make the mistake I made last year though. I put down a pre-emergent crabgrass preventer, then a few weeks later tried to grow grass. Needless to say, it didn’t work out too well.

              1. 🙂 and ugh

The problem with planting in the fall is that by fall we have generally had it taking care of the lawn so it doesn’t get done. But I always thought it was a great excuse not to do in spring.

    2. My town has already enacted a water ban effective immediately. It happens yearly (regardless of rainfall deficit or surplus) but it usually goes June – Oct. I think early indications for a very dry summer have them taking action now, much to my chagrin.

          1. I should clarify, its not a complete ban. Unlimited handheld use is allowed but automated watering is only allowed 2 days/week alternating odd/even numbered houses between the hours of 6pm-8pm, the worst possible time of day to water your lawn.

            1. Ugh – I wonder what Sutton does as far as being proactive for bans. Framingham only had once in the 37 years we were there. First time we have had an automated system and we probably won’t be able to use it.

I have always heard that is the worst possible time. My dad did our lawn growing up and it was a showcase (he would be ashamed of my lack of proper care). He always watered after work in the evening.

              1. First thing in the morning is best. Two reasons: the sun isn’t strong enough yet to evaporate it so all will get absorbed right away. If watering in the evening the grass and top soil stays wet overnight promoting molds, fungus, and moss growth.

                1. I am not much into this stuff, but that makes perfect sense.

When I put down the grass, I will water before work each day. If needed, when I get home as well. That “should” get it going OK.

  7. Acemaster I’m impressed with your knowledge of turf. Exactly right!!! Watering especially at night after Memorial Day can spread red thread and possibly melt out. I will say most don’t quite obey water bans, most water every morning between 3:30-5:00 right before sunrise. This is optimum time for grass and root system.

  8. No, the only restriction is no watering 9am to 5 pm. Sutton gets its water from Whitinsville water company. They have so much water they sell it to neighboring towns. We have water standing out here year round in spots.

  9. Early next week looks down right cold. Euro wants to bring in some mighty chilly 850’s. Gfs not quite as bad. Ensemble means all look warmer than the operationals as far as I can tell, but unless something changes a little, low 50’s may be all we can muster early next week. Maybe a high 40 here and there. Little better by early May, but that’s a long way out.

    1. I was going to post something about that.
Operational euro has mid to upper 40s for Tues through sat next week for highs. BRUTALRAMA!
      Hope it is wrong.

  10. My stomach is turning inside out because of this, It is barely being covered, no one in the USA really knows about it…. The record warmth off the coast of Austraila has led to 50% of the corals dead with 93& bleached. they tried old techniques of funneling cooler water in from the north but it did not help this year, some say within 5 years their might be nothing but dead coral
    http://www.iflscience.com/plants-and-animals/great-barrier-reef-half-dead-93-percent-bleached

        1. Those two countries are doing more to combat climate change that we are Blackstone. Many Northern Europeans as well… The USA is falling behind, The USA has people that still believe that Climate change is Not being speed up by Human activity or not believing it is happening at all. WAkE UP. The corrupt USA system should realize they could take advantage of this, The USA is going to go down the crapper if we do not start to lead instead of follow

          1. Keep fighting the fight, Matt. It is your generation who might get something done. My guess is not only warmth of water but pollution has lead to the destruction of coral. I’d have to look into it, but hard for me to believe otherwise.

  11. Updated!
Forecast confidence drops rapidly after Sunday, so changes will likely take place. For this reason I did not go into much detail in the longer ranges.
