  1. Wife and I enjoyed viewing “Purple Rain” Last night.
Princes’s performance of his song “Purple Rain” was breath taking.
A performance for the ages. Loved the movie again.

  2. How’s the weather on the south shore this am? Drizzly? Rain? Kids heading to Marshfield to pick up a third birthday party cake. It is tradition…so I am told when I mention it is a long drive πŸ™‚

  3. Not great for a 10 am baseball game. Drizzly and a touch chilly. Figures Thursday and Friday would be great but Saturday is less than stellar.

  4. Not sure if this has been posted re: Prince. He takes the stage sometime around the 3:30 mark. My son is pursuing his guitar paying and song-writing dreams in LA and alerted me to this youtube video. I had to watch it twice to recognize what Prince was doing in terms of physical performance. What a talent.

    1. Totally enjoyed watching and to top it off that song is a favorite of mine.

I watched twice but may be too old to figure what he is doing. Although I spent several minutes on FB looking for something I knew I wanted to watch on prince before I remember it was here and you posted it πŸ™

My very best to your son!!!!!

Sometimes, where one earns said degree can be β€œpolluted” with politics

In response to this statement, , we need politics to get involved and be on the side of the environment instead of big business /big oil and other polluters….. the government is polluted by big money going towards big business/big time polluters.

Please do not deny science, I am really starting to get sick and tired of people making excuses, even on here, does not take a PHD to understand that climate change is happening at a much faster rate than it should due to human activities. I know some of the responses are going to be, we do not have enough evidence, we have no good proof , that the earth goes through cycles,( Yes the earth goes through cycles, of varying intensities, but there is a reason why the warmest years on record have been happening in the past 10 years with wild swings, bigger storms) with other escuses… these are excuses to not act. My generation is being handed over the mess that the older generations have given. My generation pretty much believes in climate change, yet that older generation is still trying to get in our way.. This is one pisted off College student that sees the need for action now before it is to late. There is a reason why Sanders has most of the younger generation and Hillary have the older. If sanders does not win, just watch what happens in 8 years in the next election

    1. I appreciate your enthusiasm, but you might benefit from being more open minded. The left is all for free speech as long as it fits their narrative, otherwise it’s not a lower and must be silenced. Just look across the country at the utter lack of room for disagreement, all held under the guise of inclusion and diversity. The only problem is the goal is to achieve just the opposite, hence why I am a neanderthal or climate denier. When someone lacks substance in their argument they are quick to brandIing and creating strawman arguments instead of actually having a debate.

    2. Never said one needed a PHD for that.

And I will continue to dislike politics overall until there are no parties. Period.

Not a fan of extreme left or extreme right and until they all learn to work together, far fetched notion I know, nothing will ever really be accomplished. πŸ˜›

    3. Matt I applaud your enthusiasm. You know that. I too am frustrated by inaction…in large part caused by politics. I’m not sure either party uses an ounce of common sense. It simply needs to find a reason to disagree with those across the aisle. I find this a bit more often from the established right than established left which is pretty much born out by polls where the right admits freely that it does not agree with compromise. And it is more than obvious from both extremes. Like TK I have no use for extremes. I am moderate leaning left which actually used to be right before the party shifted.

All that said, we have no absolute proof that our destruction of this planet is causing it to warm. I understand there is proof for. But I also understand there is legitimate proof against our being the only cause. And as TK has said many times, we have not been keeping records long enough to know what went before

As enthusiastic as you are, I think it is important to listen with an open mind and not shut out those who believe differently…….in most instances. I understand your generations frustration with mine. I’m frustrated with it too. But not listening to opposing views will only shut people down and then nothing is accomplished. My advice would be to work with your generation….along with mine….to have an open mind….to work together.

Perhaps it is better to take it from the angle of dealing with what we know we have done….what is absolute fact. We have polluted every corner. No one can deny that. If we focus on cleaning it up, then we might find that will at least alleviate some of the warming. If it does not, We know warming is cyclical by nature. If it does, then all the better

      Nothing is lost

The problem will be to get the powers that be to focus there which should be an easy focus….but sadly it won’t be easy.

I agree with you re sanders popularity with youth BTW.

  6. Drought 2016 is getting ready to start cranking here. Not much in the precip department in the coming weeks and months, other than localized. There may be a few exceptions but the overall dry trend from last year after being temporarily weakened is about to be alive and well. Lots of fire danger in the next week or 2 especially northern MA and NH where the leaf-out happens later.

  7. “But my weather app said today was supposed to be sunny.”

Heard such quotes on the soccer field this morning and though to myself… Either the app sucks or you checked it several days ago and decided nothing can ever change. πŸ˜›

  8. I love your passion Matt, and I am as liberal as they come, but to say wait in 8 years when Hilary wins is not correct, she is smart, respected and a brilliant mind and this country will be better off in 8 years if she is president.

    1. I agree, Hadi. I’m not a fan of Hillary or the Clinton brand, but she gets a terrible rap in this country, from the right and the left. Some of the criticism borders on misogyny. I’m sick of hearing “Hillary is so shrill.” Is she any less shrill than Bernie can be, or Donald, or Ted, Or Joe Biden. Yes, she’s a tough woman. But, that’s to be admired and not derided. She’s a very well qualified, intelligent, hard-working person who’s had to put up with a brilliant, philandering narcissist for many years (Bill). Quite frankly, that should be included on her CV. Putting up with Bill means you can handle just about anything. Hillary’s opportunistic, yes. But, so aren’t virtually all successful politicians. She will likely win the presidency – I’d bet the house on it – and will steer the ship. That is, keep us afloat. No, I’m not a believer in bold moves at this time, like “building a wall” (good lord, what a waste of money that would be, especially at a time when there is no net migration from Mexico!), or spending trillions on `free’ things for everybody (nothing’s free, just ask a Brit who pays between 10 and 15% of his income on the `free’ NHS). As for the environment, I applaud Matt’s passion. We as a nation need to do more about our environment. We also need to do a better job of coordinating with other nations like China, Japan, Germany, and other industrial powerhouses in working towards a greener and more sustainable global economy. I do not, however, believe in establishing a handbook of thousands of regulations. A smarter way to achieve a better environment is through increased use of economic and financial incentives, targeted at both the industry and consumers.

    2. the reason why, I dislike her is that she is for death penalty, and all for fracking, she is paid by wall street. She has changed her views through out her career. She is saying so much right now to win, which much of it she will not do.

Democrats have been known to work with republicans on issues that they want to put out, but when democrats want to put something out, they do everything in their power to keep it from happening. So talk to republicans of not getting things done.

I do not believe there is enough time, to keep debating if it is real or not. If anyone can send me a credible source that denies climate change put it on the page, until then, the climate change deniers argument is as relevant as the senator with the snowball.

There can not be compromise with conservatives on this matter. There is way to much science saying climate change is real time to get these people out of the government and out of our way.

      1. I’m not sure the debate now is so much whether change is real. The climate always changes. The debate is how much is man vs. not man.

I like to call it the Vicki Principle: It cannot hurt to do everything we can to take care of our world and not make choices doing things that we know can cause harm. We’re part of the environment so there is no way we cannot impact it at least to some degree. We cannot ask cows and other animals to stop farting, for one example, but we can control much of what we do. So I say let’s do it. On that, I am complete agreement. And erring on the side of caution is something I’d be strongly in favor of in the face of any uncertainty that remains.

It’s never too late to reverse at least some damage, and on this I agree that the longer we wait the harder it would be to do that as well as prevent future damage. When a smoker stops smoking, it’s been shown that lungs start to repair themselves. The Earth is pretty tough, and if we’re smart, it’ll start fixing itself, but it needs help.

And not to beat a dead horse, but again with folks like Bill Nye. I just don’t want people looking to someone like him as the final and all knowing source. Know sources, check sources. He’s a smart guy, no doubt. He cares about the world, no doubt about that, and I applaud him for it. But sometimes his attitude can be just as nasty as the folks that oppose him, and that is not going to win any support from people who may be on the fence and don’t know what to believe. When it’s no longer us vs. them, it will be better, but I do hold both sides equally responsible here, some worse on some issues than others, but to me it all balances out in the end.

Keep doing what you’re doing though. We need people with vision to move forward and make the future better. And I think you’ll do your part very well.

        1. Very very nice and it really would be the Vicki and her father in law principle …..he was a dyed in the wool conservative and we could both agree on just cleaning up

However, I think we need to have a chat about beating a dead horse……hmmmmmmmmmm 😈

  9. Now that is out of my system, I just came through Milford. Mac had something to do with my being more than five minutes from Target…I know it. I was surprised the sign said no outside watering. Didn’t give any times you could so I assume that literally means none

Things budding…note present tense….a bit more here than there. Hopkinton a bit more than Milford. Fun to see the differences.

  10. I am not a fan of either party when it comes to politics. I feel like everyone election I am choosing the lesser of two evils. To me no matter what side of the aisle they sit on their all corrupt in some way shape or form.

    1. Smart man, JJ. I do think there is an honest choice this time on one side. We just need one on both.

    2. im in the same boat, the person that i would have voted for had no press, no one even knew about her even though she was pretty much down the middle except for environmental issues…

I would have liked a Warren/Biden or bloomberg (Biden or warren)

I think we will see warren as a presidential canidate at some point

        1. I honestly been surprised about him, need to remember there is a difference between northeast and west coast republicans πŸ™‚

    1. 2 trips planned there in 2016. One in summer including the water park and one in October for the Halloween related stuff. We never pay admission thanks to my coke rewards and the fact my friend is a diet coke addict. πŸ˜‰

  11. Matt, I can assure you Hilary is not pro death penalty… and fracking we shall see.

I admire Clinton as woman in this country, its hard enough let alone running for President.

  12. I wouldn’t vote for either one of them, but Bernie is as honest as the day is long. Hillary Clinton needs to be in a federal lock up. Many politicians have a federal number for doing less. And ask Martha Stewart how a little stock transaction that people do every day landed her in Danbury.
John Kasich or Jim Webb would have been preferable to anyone running now. Moderate, practical, non divisive guys who can work across party lines. But then again I’m a libertarian.
    Ok,I’m done, back to weather.
Turned out to be an awesome afternoon.

      1. I could say worse but out of respect for the blog I’ll just say Obama has ruined this Country and wrecking what past presidents have accomplished. Can’t come soon enough for him to be gone .

            1. Very obvious with age and experience you become a smarter human. Your older family new what was America. And this is no offense at all vicki. Again just my opinion

                1. Remember, Charlie, I was raised in a family incredibly involved in politics….local, statewide and national. So I do know and I can guarantee I echo what they would believe. They were staunch republicans. Before the shift πŸ™‚

                2. And I name as close family friends Lodge, sergeant, Brooke, volpe….as a start….I can go bigger πŸ™‚

        1. Obama has not ruined this country, if it was not for him, this country would be crappier than it is at the moment. He had to fix 8 years of republican stupidity. He has protected more land and water than any other president. He has been trying to fix Southwest Asia as much as he can, it has gone down the crapper as the USA gone in there not understanding shit about the area thanks bush for that. which means he is to blame for these terrorist groups as even though the government was shitty over their they were keeping the terrorist groups in check. We are better off with him over the republicans, There needs to be change but college kids want a certain kind of change and its different than what republicans and establishment want

    1. It is, and I’ll be taking a walk shortly along the Esplanade.

By the way, Frontline did what I believe was an excellent documentary called Children in Syria. The short film follows the life of a family that escapes the horrors of Aleppo and move to Germany. It’s candid. It shows the horrors of war, as perpetrated by all sides in the conflict. It also makes it crystal-clear how difficult it is to be a refugee, chased away from your home, losing family members along the way, making painful choices about who will be left behind. I was moved by this documentary. I grieve for all Syrians who have been impacted by this brutal war. Along with Iraq, Israel, and the Palestinian territories, Syria lies at the heart of our civilization. Ancient proud cultures, the origins of our Judeo-Christian-Muslim traditions.

      1. I will look for that. Thank you Joshua.

I have said before that mac worked with and we became friends with a husband and wife who were refugees from Vietnam decades ago. They came here on a boat made for 20. They were around 100. It is foreign to so many in this country and I do not mean that as an insult. It is difficult to understand something you have no way of relating to.

  13. Thanks tk:) absolutely beautiful night. Patio is packed at Boston harbor 56 degrees πŸ™‚

    1. JJ I would have likes that also. I’m sorry he didn’t jump in but sure don’t blame him. We have great intelligence in this country and those who are intelligent want no part of it….Colin Powell is an example

  14. Ok ….TK is there room for two Vicki principles here ….pahleezeee.

Before I give it, please know that I would please ask you to remove it if you feel it is not appropriate

I love being here. I also love debating and I love politics….no surprise there. And I also think we are friends and family in a mostly virtual sense but so many years together doesn’t make it less real

So we need to vent re our concerns because we ALL love this country and we worry about it and not one of us has all the answers…..and I am as guilty or more guilty than anyone for continuing. But I’m done….we can only hope I can live by that

It is after a weather blog that TK graciously gives us each and every day.

Thank you TK. Vicki principle 2 says….what a spectacular day we had and I look forward to sharing tomorrow and tons more with all of you πŸ™‚
