Wednesday Forecast

DAYS 1-5 (MAY 4-8)…
Series of low pressure areas continue to produce occasional wet weather. The next 2 (later today and later Thursday) will pass by, while the one after that (Friday) cuts off and mills around for a little extra time before getting booted out by a strong cold front out of Canada later in the weekend.

TONIGHT: Cloudy. Rain likely, then ending overnight. Areas of fog. Lows in the 40s. Wind light E.

THURSDAY NIGHT: Cloudy. Periods of rain. Areas of drizzle and fog. Lows in the 40s. Wind NE 10-20 MPH with higher gusts.

SATURDAY: Mostly cloudy. Scattered showers. Lows in the 40s. Highs 55-65, mildest far inland.
SUNDAY – MOTHERS DAY: Variably cloudy. Episode of showers mainly late morning to mid afternoon based on current timing. Lows 45-55. Highs 55-65.

DAYS 6-10 (MAY 9-13)…
Fair, windy, cool May 9. Fair, warmer May 10-11. Risk of showers May 12-13 but not a return to the blocking pattern of this week.

DAYS 11-15 (MAY 14-18)…
Looks like a pattern of changing temperatures averaging out close to normal and passing weather systems bringing minor episodes of rain or showers a couple times.

  1. To echo someone’s (Joshua?) recent comments on the slooooow start to spring in Boston. The same can be said for areas to the south of Boston and away from the coast as well. Yesterday kicked off my company golf league and the course, which is in Canton, still looked dormant, minus the green turf. The trees looked lifeless with just tiny shy unopened buds. I played golf in the middle of Feb and it was more pleasant than yesterday. I really hope things start coming to life soon around here. Just 175 miles to our south in the NYC area it looks like the middle of summer.

  2. Still enjoying the grey stretch. End is in sight. A little more benefit possible from a couple rain slugs thru Friday.

Just looked at a photo taken 1 year ago today. Trees are about in the same place in my area, foliage-wise.

    1. Ah ha – I figured out the problem. It is your rope. If you cannot lengthen it…just toss it. Then all is well 😉

        1. What rain 😉

And see how easy it is to lengthen that rope 😉

Oddly, I was just out and liked the air feel. I like to bundle up and feel cool on my face.

On another front, I tried the creperie in Northbridge for lunch and it is really good. They were very clever in the design as well as having great food.

          1. We’ve eaten there a few time and thought it was good.
I’ve gotten 3/4″ since Sunday, so that’s not bad, and its only May 4th.
            And bundling up is ok
………………………………in OCTOBER! Bundled up in May, eh, no so much Ha!

            1. Ah ha – you kept it a secret?? Just kidding!! I found it by accident. Mac would have loved it. Any other restaurants you would like to share? I love to eat out!

Sorry to break up the weather talk with food talk 🙁

  3. AccuWeather is forecasting a very hot summer for the northeast with many dry periods. This may be a first that AccuWeather and TK’s long range are in total agreement.

It will be interesting if their long range winter outlooks match as well down the road, but I suppose THAT would be asking a bit too much. 😉

    1. They should start thinking about a dry winter with a cold start and mild finish.

    2. I’ll believe the hot summer idea when I see it.
I haven’t seen a decent summer here since 2013; at least the kind I like anyway.

      1. Indeed …. It’s interesting to look at Logan’s low temps for summer 2014 and 2015.

Mostly low and mid 60s, which says that oppressive humidity has been largely missing from New England for 2 years.

In most summers, Logan has 3 or 4 nights, where it has a stuffy low of 74 to 78F and once comes close to a low of 80F. But, as mentioned, not the last 2 summers.

  4. I’m kind of hoping the little league baseball game gets rained out. If it doesn’t, it’ll be damn cold out there. At least with a makeup game down the road, it might be warmer. I hate standing out there in 40 degree weather. And with the wind the way it is, yuck!

    1. Looks like it is raining pretty hard out your way. Perhaps you will get your wish, although it is early yet. Perhaps it will move through and you will have a 2-3 hour window to get the game in?

I know when I played baseball, I absolutely HATED HATED HATED days like this. If one didn’t strike the ball precisely right, oh the stinging in the hands. OUCH!!!

      Good luck.

      1. Game was just called. Makeup Monday probably. Have one on Saturday at 2, so hoping to get that one in.

      2. Memories of standing at horse shows with a thousand pound wet pony on the end of the lead trying to keep both him and myself dry! That went from somewhere around 6:00 am until 4:00-6:00 pm. Spring was always an interesting time to show. Funny thing is…they are all incredibly fond memories.

  5. This is definitely a slew of days that Old Salty looks forward to. His go-to weather … NOT!

I must say I’m also beginning to feel gloomy as the clouds, east wind, and cool temps stubbornly stick around. I’m not fond of liquor, but I can imagine a drink or two might take the edge off the dreariness.

    1. It is working for me and I’m not even bothered by weather 🙂

I have to say I will never hear the words east wind again and not think of OS

    2. I could mix up a fort point easily.
      Rye
      Cognac vsop
      Cherry heering
      Sweet vermouth
      Dash of bitters.
Stirred not shaken. Serve over ice with a cherry

Or just go to Bastille Kitchen in southie and have them mix you one.

      1. Seriously??? What time are cocktails tomorrow? I have not seen cherry heeering in ages.

I have remy Martin and sweet vermouth so can contribute. Also have dewars or perhaps you prefer a specific rye.

        1. Any rye will do.
But dewers in scotch. That’s whisky, no “e” a opposed to whisk(e)y which is rye or bourbon.

          1. Scotch is made from a mash of malted barley. Bourbon mash, by law to be called bourbon, had to have 50% or greater corn in the mash. Rye is a rye mash.

            1. Thanks. I am a Jack person myself. Parents would ask for rye and I never knew what it was. Dewars is for the mint juleps Saturday. I felt a bit like a traitor not getting Jack 🙂

I need to look into this whiskey whisky thing. Great info. Thanks again

      1. That’s funny, Vicki.

Tom was in the middle of putting together Blackstone’s concoction and he wanted to let us know that he and the heavens were “pouring.”

        1. Not my concoction really. It’s a signature cocktail at Bastille Kitchen. It’s named after fort point channel, hence, a “Fort Point”. Great French restaurant. I had the onion soup, foie gras , skirt steak and frites, with a bearnaise sauce, and baked Alaska.

          1. Cool…..Mac and I also enjoyed Bastille as has our son. There was a restaurant just outside of Harvard square decades ago. It was hands down best French restaurant in area. Cannot remember name.

  6. Thanks tk 🙂

Just back from nyc. Everything is fully budded green and looks like the middle of summer here. Ugh!!!

    1. Just got back here and it’s like a totally different world. Brown with a few green blotches mixed in. Blakkk!!!

        1. Just think Vicki the trees will be leafless in just 4-5 months and we know you will be out on deck enjoying it. I wish I was as easy peezy as you 🙂

          1. Charlie….you’ve alluded to my sitting on deck and doing no more before. Honey you couldn’t keep up with me but at this point I’ve had enough of your nonsense

The lol was because you said weeks ago that everything had bloomed here ….YOUR WORDS Everyone else questioned your comment. Now it is brown here according to you. Which is it.

      1. That was my experience as well Charlie. I was in the NYC area last week and it was like the middle of summer, everything out in full force.

  7. I hope we’re not looking at May, 2005. 7 degrees BN that year. Average high was 60

    1. Don’t think so, there was a lot of rain that month which helped kept temps down. Interesting that the following June had a lot of heat. Many days in the upper 80s to 90+

  8. If 500 mb ridges of high pressure are going to continue to anomolously develop in the far northwest territories and/or Alaska, then in general, getting back to sustained sunshine anytime soon is not in the cards.

The next 500mb ridge looks to build a little further west into Alaska than its predecessors, which should have everything retrograde some. So …. I can see that the next bout of unsettled weather later next week should feature milder temps than we are seeing now. That would be somewhat of an improvement.

    1. Not to mention that its scary to think what the wild fire season could be like for western Canada, the northwest territories and Alaska if they continue to have a warm to hot spring.

I saw 90F readings in 2 western provinces the last 2 days and perhaps you have seen the wild fires on the news the last couple of days from this part of the world.

Though it could lead to a hot summer for us, we’ve been stuck in the western continental ridge and eastern continental trof in all seasons since 2013 and I just wonder if this transition from El Nino to La Nina may be the kicker to finally change this hemispheric pattern ????

      1. This pattern is classic omega block and is quite common in the Spring. This is a strong one. But this pattern has often preceded a warm to hot Summer especially after El Nino.
