Monday Forecast

7:30AM

DAYS 1-5 (MAY 23-27)…
Upper level low pressure dominates through Tuesday then exits to the east Wednesday. We’re mainly dry ahead of a surface low that is captured to the south today and then wet tonight and Tuesday as this system does a loop over southern New England. The door to summer is opened as it departs on Wednesday and we’ll warm up significantly for a couple days at least. A wildcard for Friday is a potential back-door cold front that may cool down at least coastal areas.
TODAY: Sun gives to to clouds. Highs in the 60s coast, lower 70s interior. Wind NE 5-15 MPH.
TONIGHT: Cloudy. Periods of rain arriving. Lows in the 50s. Wind NE to E 5-15 MPH.
TUESDAY: Mainly cloudy. Periods of rain, decreasing later in the day. Highs in the 60s. Wind NE 5-15 MPH.
WEDNESDAY: Partly cloudy. Lows in the 50s. Highs upper 70s to lower 80s.
THURSDAY: Partly cloudy. Chance of showers/thunderstorms at night. Lows in the upper 50s to lower 60s. Highs in the upper 70s to lower 80s.
FRIDAY: Variably cloudy. Chance of showers in the morning. Lows in the 60s. Highs in the 70s but may cool back to the 60s at least coastal areas during the day.

DAYS 6-10 (MAY 28-JUNE 1)…
Low to moderate risk of isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms, but still looking largely rain-free for Memorial Day Weekend May 28-30 with above normal temperatures. Showers/thunderstorms may be more likely on May 31 followed by fair and cooler weather June 1.

DAYS 11-15 (JUNE 2-6)…
Fair and cooler early to mid period. Shower risk returns later in the period.

  1. Thank you TK and good morning. Another beauty of a day, at least starting out.

Boston Buoy water temperature: Water Temperature (WTMP): 54.5 °F
To start the day. Not too shabby.

Remember, this buoy is 16 NM East of Boston, so it is out there.

  2. Not liking the Euro forecast at all. Lots of cool weather after this Wednesday.

Also, the thunderstorm threat for this weekend seems to have gone poof.

      1. The Euro I am looking at run at 0Z last night.
I was simply looking at the 24 hour Maxx temp grids over
the Northeast. Piece of crap outlook.

          1. Of course, that is a given. All I said was that
I did not like what the Euro was saying. I don’t believe I said anything about whether I believed it or not, although I suppose my comment itself
kind of implies that I believed it. 😀 😀

Actually, I don’t believe ANY of the guidance
            coming out these days.

Geez, did they ever BLOW it for yesterday!

  3. Boston Buoy water temperature as of 10:50 AM this morning:

    Water Temperature (WTMP): 56.3 °F

  4. Only fly in the ointment is maybe the BD on Friday. We’ll see how far that makes it. Otherwise the 850’s on both the euro and GFS look good.
GFS 2 meter temps look like a torch for Sat-sun. Probably wont be quite that hot, but 80’s look realistic.
JP, can you post up the euro temp grids you saw? Im not finding them. I know we don’t live at 850, but the 850’s on the euro look ok to me.

        1. I think the 12z GFS may have joined the party of somewhat cooler, cloudy, maybe misty for some of the Memorial Day Weekend.

I don’t think its going to be ice cold though, because the airmass above will be so warm. But not 80s either, maybe 60F ish near the coast to 75F well inland. Mild nights though, with not much of a diurnal temp job.

Wonder if a tropical depression may form this weekend down around the Carolinas ?

            1. That looks good to me. I’ll be camping so I want it warm. I don’t know though, that seems to conflict with the sfc projections. I thought it looked like light onshore winds with light green over southern New England (ie mist or drizzle). I’m rooting for what you posted Keith !

              1. Ah ha ! I know what my error is, I was looking at 5/30 through 6/3, that’s not really Memorial Day weekend. Ooooops, lol !!

  5. Today is beautiful. Already 77 at my house and 73 here in Cambridge.
    Yesterday ended up nice too

  6. 58.1F at the Harbor buoy. Lik going to check out the ocean this evening and see if it feels like it’s nearning 60F.

    1. Actually that is no the Harbor buoy as the one you mention is
16 NM off shore. The inner harbor buoy is actually reading:

      Water Temperature (WTMP): 52.2 °F

      1. Hey, I’m on a roll today 🙂 🙂

I did know that about the 16 nautical miles, but I shouldn’t use that nickname of harbor buoy.

        1. Well, sometimes it’s location is actually referred to as:

          “Entrance to Boston Harbor”

          So, go figure.

I don’t like to use Harbor with it because it is just too
far out there. The inner buoy is actually in the Harbor
          very close to shore. 😀

  7. Remember when I said this upper low was NOT a return to the unsettled stretch of a couple weeks back? 🙂

    1. Yes and that means that it supports warmer weather and no prolonged
shitiness? OR does it mean an OOPSIE and you were wrong and we’re
      in for a Crapfest? 😀 😀 😀

    1. You will notice the Sharp West to East cut off on the parameters.
Kiss it good-bye for Eastern sections as per usual.

  8. “BZ now has 63 for Sunday and 66 for Monday 🙁
I knew 80’s for the entire weekend were too good to be true. Who knows, maybe it’ll be a little better, but I doubt it.

    1. I can’t remember a complete 3 day Memorial Day Weekend with nice
warm weather. NEVER. It might have existed, but I can’t remember with
      my old selective memory banks.

              1. LOL…Me too…I’ve dropped 19 pounds since then..Trying to get down to my “playing” weight (whatever that means). Down to 184 🙂

                1. I was at 181. I need to get back to 160. Im down to 173 in 3 weeks, but the lighter you are the slower it comes off. I stay hungry 24/7

                2. The big thing I cut out was soda (2 cokes a day) and my hostess cupcakes. Instead now I have seltzer or tea and a few tootsie rolls. I also try to eat more protein than I used.

                3. I am down to 245, so you can see where I started. I was dangerously over weight. I am 6-1, so I can hold some weight, but no that much. My goal is 200, but I’ll settle for 210. Ideally I should be 185-190, but I’d be a rail at that weight and my age. I am not hungry 24-7. I cut out sugar, especially in my coffee and sodas And watching portions. I eat a lot of fruit now for desserts and snacks. No more cakes, cookies and ice cream. 😀 😀 😀

  9. 7 has their new 7 day out. Warm Saturday (88) but Sunday and Monday are 71, and 78. Maybe GFS/Euro blend? I know it’s 7 days out, but its a big weekend a lot of businesses depend on.
One thing you can count on like death and taxes, ‘BZ is going to use that euro come hell or high water. I’m sure it will change many times by then. One things sure, we’ll find out what’s correct.

    1. Well for sure, I know Barry lives and dies with the Euro. Not sure if
Eric is the same. I have seen him go with the GFS or blends.
Also, not sure who it was that prepared the latest BZ forecast.
Do you know who prepared it? Danielle, Terry, Pamela, Barry or Eric.
My guess is that is was Barry and he will be on air later. 😀

  10. TK nailed the forecast for the stalled upper level low. Showers coming tonight but other than that it’s basically been dry in Boston and vicinity.

I don’t think we’ll get consistently warm temps the coming weeks. I think we’ll see lots of 60s, with some inland 70-75 degree days. While the pattern is evolving a bit – in part because we’re getting so close to the solstice – I don’t see any significant shift to summer on the horizon. This may still surprise us, but my guess is we continue on this prolonged spring for a while.

        1. I’ve been checking the cam every day and several days ago the ice out seemed to be starting but then temps took a dive.

    1. Actually the pattern looks decently warm rest of May, slightly cooler 1st several days of June, warming again after. Remember the coast is always vulnerable to sea breezes. It’s part of the local climate.

  11. On the weight thing, my ideal according to the charts is 150-155. But my god id look emaciated at that weight, Id be happy with 160. I’m only 5’6 though, but Im 51 yo.
I did the same as you guys. I cut out the cookies, ice cream, Hostess stuff, and try to keep the intake to about 1500 calories.
Before I cut down, I could eat a whole sleeve of oreos, or a quart of ice cream at one sitting, or a half bag of powdered Hostess donuts. Also switched to diet soda, which I don’t drink a lot of anyway. I eat no rice, pasta, and very little bread now. Mostly protein and veggies. I didn’t have weight problem until I quit smoking 10 years ago.

    1. The quitting smoking thing (though a great choice) commonly leads to weight issues. Thankfully I never smoked so never had to worry about the quitting part. 😉

      1. Quit smoking over 36 yrs ago. Had three kids. My weight is not good. I think about losing on occasion and when my mind can focus may give it a serious try. Until then I am comfortable with me.

    2. I quit smoking in April 2015 after 21 years of it. The steps for quitting actually started 6 months earlier. I never thought I would quit, I loved it too much. I gain 20 pounds at my peak and dropped 15 the last two months. Started running helped take my mind off of it. I love the extra money I am saving now.

    3. Last summer on the annual radio (DX) trip I discovered “Mega Stuff” oreos. Locally they were only available online through Amazon. From Sept thru December I consumed 42 packages of them…YIKES! Another thing I cut out after January 1st.

      1. I could eat those a bag at a time. NEVER EVER Could only eat
a cookie or 2. It was always the whole bag.

        1. I just don’t buy that stuff at all.

If I am craving something to eat, I grab an apple or a banana. I know bananas have calories, but a banana
is far superior to a quart of ice cream or a bag of cookies.

          Anyway, it’s working.

          1. My problem is I have kids who keep the cookies and deserts. We limit the intake, but it’s still here. Keeps my willpower on high alert. 100 calorie Greek yogurt is a poor substitute for 3 HoHo’s and a Twinkie.

          2. I’m somewhere in between. I’ve given up the cake, cookies, coke (any soda), pasta (except in small amounts), other starches (except sandwiched 3 or 4 times a week), don’t drink as much beer as I used to. I still have a dish of ice cream every other night, cheese once in a while, eggs for breakfast. I’ve also cut out the snacking in between meals. Like you I reach for a piece of fruit or some almonds or peanuts.

  12. Re-Broadcast of channel 4’s hurricane special tonight at 10:30PM.
Well worth it if you missed it.

Tonight at 1030p…our re-broadcast. And wouldn’t ya know it…looks like the first tropical disturbance of the year may form near Florida this weekend. Timely.

  13. hoping weather is as severe as expected in our mid section. Right now NW and SW of Lincoln seem to have stronger cells but nothing warned….other than flooding
