Monday Forecast

4:12AM

DAYS 1-5 (SEPTEMBER 19-23)…
The idea has been for a front to slowly make its way southeastward across southern New England through today, and it’s moving so slowly it will actually take until early Tuesday to complete this process. This front provides an avenue for moisture and resultant showers as well as a risk of thunderstorms. Fair and warm weather returns during Tuesday and the rest of the period will feature continued fair weather with some ups and downs, but mostly ups, on the temperatures.
TODAY: Mainly cloudy with episodes of scattered showers and possible thunderstorms. Some heavy downpours are possible. Continued humid. Highs 68-76. Wind SW to S 5-15 MPH.
TONIGHT: Mainly cloudy. Episodes of scattered showers. Patchy fog. Humid. Lows 56-63. Wind S to SW 5-15 MPH.
TUESDAY: Lots of clouds to start including a shower risk mainly southeastern MA, then partly to mostly sunny. Still humid. Highs 75-83. Wind SW 5-15 MPH.
WEDNESDAY: Mostly sunny. Lows 55-63. Highs 75-83.
THURSDAY: Mostly sunny. Lows 53-61. Highs 73-81.
FRIDAY: Partly sunny. Lows 55-63. Highs 75-83.

DAYS 6-10 (SEPTEMBER 24-28)…
Some cloudiness early September 24 and possibly a shower southern areas otherwise mainly dry and trending breezy and cooler for the remainder of September 24 and September 25. Warming up with only a few showers at times September 26-27 then fair and cooler September 28.

DAYS 11-15 (SEPTEMBER 29-OCTOBER 3)…
Mainly dry. Temperatures return to above normal after a cool start.

  1. The rain must be drying up as it falls around our area as radar shows greens and yellow’s yet, its a drizzle/light rain here in Billerica

  2. Good Monday morning and thank you, TK.

Sun attempting to peek through. Have not checked the gauge but pavement is dry so suspect there was not any rain here.

    1. Between the front and Julia, it has to rain in Boston sooner or later. We won’t escape this time…hopefully.

  3. As of 6am this morning we had a half inch of rain. That’s 35 miles about due north of the city. From the radar it looked like they’ve gotten even more to the west of that. Judging the slug of rain to the south and west I’d take the over on what the HRR is portraying for Boston.

  4. We’ve been getting a decent amount of rain here in Sudbury since around 7:00 a.m. or so. Nice to hear the rain! I’ll try to push it south and east and anywhere else that isn’t having rain right now! 🙂

  5. Boston might get fooled by the ‘ol squeeze play. Rain sliding to the north and west and that slug to the southwest looks to miss south. Not looking good folks. I hope I’m wrong, but I have a feeling we see very little from Boston to PVD. For those getting rain now, get out and enjoy it! 🙂

  6. Poor Jimmy G. I really feel for the guy. Finally gets his shot behind the ageless Tom Brady. Shows the world he can play in impressive fashion then gets injured. I don’t care what the reports say, he’s not playing again this season. It’s a real shame. I said it during the first pre-season game and I’ll continue to say it. This guy is the air apparent to TB12, the Steve Young to Joe Montana. The way this guy came out throwing the ball in yesterday’s game was awesome to watch. Not even the great Tom Brady has looked that good. Every throw, every movement, every decision was spot on. Brady never looked that good in his first season. The have to keep this guy for the long haul. Pay the man until Brady retires. That is all.

    1. I listened to Boomer Esiason this morning on the Sports Hub.
He has had the same thing happen to him and he said on the air
that he thinks it is a grade ‘C’ Should separation which takes a long time
to heal as in months, not weeks. I hope it just a strain, but he said on air
that the injury is far more serious than they are telling us.

Interesting and that meshes with what you posted above.

    2. Ace, you know I agree 1000%. I had a discussion on FB at least a year ago with regard to JimmyG and his potential which I believe you were part of. He has the mechanics that Brady has which really is the key word. I give credit to my son in law who is my mentor but thanks to him I am also learning what to look for. Brissett (according to my mentor 😉 ) is more like a Ben Roethlisberger but he has potential. I’m still learning about him.

My heart really breaks for him. And you are right. His stats vs Brady’s at the start are ever so much better. Like you, I do hope that BB holds onto him.

  7. That storm reading Ryan Hanrahan’s tweet did have weak rotation in it about 18 minutes ago near Westerly, RI with a wind gust 32 mph at the Westerly, airport.

  8. As I watch the radar displays, both Boston and NYC, it is beginning to look more
and more like Boston gets in on at least the Northern edge/portion of those
juicy echoes to our Southwest. I suppose it is still possible it passes just to
the South, but my educated eye says Boston gets in on it. We’ll know fairly soon. 😀

    0.39 inch so far.

  9. It looks like Logan has had 0.51 inch. Makes sense as they caught part of a Northern
echo that we did not just 6 miles to the SW.

  10. Has just started raining here in Walpole. I can hear the plants and grass gulping. Hopefully this area of rain can stay together into the early afternoon. After that, rest of the rain appears to translate well south of the area.

  11. Some beneficial rain, but again as we suspected, not everywhere.

A good drought scratcher. Long, long, LONG way to go and lots of dry weather on the horizon.

  12. Rain here but not enough to trip gauge. But then we have had more than other areas so I’m happy to see it east of here.

  13. First signs of color change in the Marsh. I am thinking in about a week or so, there will be some good colors in the marsh as i am actually been some what surprised that the level of water is really no different than any other year.

    1. I agree. And some trees that are under stress will display vibrant color though very briefly. Many others will be dull and the rustic gold and browns will be dominant.

Leaf drop should beb done early allowing early November cleanup finish this year in many areas.

      1. So now we will be back on schedule. Mostly, perhaps due to drought and insects rather than “normalizing.” Towns have had to delay pickup from mid t late November for the past few years….first time in the 37 years we lived in Framingham. It was probably three years ago that the last traditional collection in mid-November was too early and they were actually astute enough to change it to end of November the following year.

  14. 0.08 so far

We are seeing a lot of the dull rustic gold you describe TK. But I believe we had more problems with gypsy moths down this way just as south of here (e.g., RI) had more than we did and it was for their second year. I’m hoping for at least some good colors as I was anxious to see the ridge/hill behind our house that is lined with trees. But it will be what it is.

    1. From 6 weeks to Thursday?? They shouldn’t rush him. I heard that type of injury takes weeks to recover from. Brissett didn’t look horrible or anything. Let HIM start on Thursday night and may the chips fall where they may.

      1. Philip you and I are on the same page. Even it the injury is very minor, it is a short week and he injured his throwing arm. I am not a coach nor do I claim to be…..but I do have common sense. It is just way too risky IMHO. Perhaps this is just a rumor. It has been known to happen.

          1. FWIW, my wife thinks they are downplaying the injury as per usual. She thinks a minimum of
            6 weeks. We shall see.

She just Knows when it comes to things like this.

I would not bet against her, but time will tell.

            1. I think she is correct for the reason MassBay gave. I would be a lot more nervous if it were not BB. Others sure have done it. Although, as I type that there is something (was it welker) rolling around in my memory.

          1. Again, I agree. Although I’d hate to see him get in there and get hurt. But I’ve said that and second guessing BB is a fool’s game.

        1. I had that thought also, MB. I think you are correct. He isn’t a fool that is for sure….unless Brady got nervous (which he should) and asked to have him play…..just kidding.

  15. Still raining lightly. 0.46 in the bucket so far.
Looks like a bit heavier precip is on the doorstep. Let us hope so anyway. 😀

  16. The convection to the west and northwest was expected and it’s a result of outflow boundaries from the overnight convection which was rather potent out there.

  17. Up to 0.57 inch at my house and I do believe the end is in sight.
It shouldn’t tally up much more, perhaps topping out around 0.60 inch or so. 😀

    1. It’s all relative.

10 days out, Euro is projecting highs of about 55 in the Boston Area.

That would be about 15 Degrees or so below average, so I guess that would
qualify as a cool shot, but when I looked honestly I was expecting even
      cooler the way you sounded.

  18. I can hear the rain choking as it grasps for breath. It is on it’s last gasp and headed out
fast. Some final brief yellow echoes. Perhaps I can squeeze out a few more tenths. 😀

  19. Rain is done in the City. Final tally at my house in JP: 0.62 inches
I’ll happily take that. Beat the crap out of a tenth or 2. 😀

Logan is going to come in with a bit more.

  20. Just talked to my brother in weare NH. He said it poured last night as hard as he has heard it. Word he was getting was they got a couple of inches. Wunder has them at 2.24.

  21. Nature of precip seemed very localized today. On the whole I think most of the region actually over-performed, with many 1-2″ reports. However, where it’s needed the most in east central MA and RI, especially Norfolk, Suffolk, and Providence Counties, the rain was largely absent.

    1. Did you have as much in your area as they did in Weare? My brother was not quite sure of the drought conditions in that area.

  22. WSBE public television in Rhode Island (Channel 36) is airing its award-winning documentary on the Hurricane of 1938, called “Wake of ’38” early, early tomorrow morning at 4 am.

It’s only on once. If you get Channel 36, set your alarm or DVR.

    1. I found it on pbs wave nature.

THANK YOU. As everyone knows cause I said it a million times my mom had amazing stories of 38. I am really looking forward to seeing this

  23. Oh my!
    Another Big Papi home run!

    5-1 Boston.
A season for the ages for David Ortiz!

Porcello only 38 pitches through four innings.

  24. I am hanging my head. I missed wishing you a happy birthday earlier today, North.

I hope your day was perfect !!

  25. The 00z GFS keeps most of the area in the upper 50s to lower 60s for highs on Sunday. Of course, that’s the day that my better half and I are planning to head out to The Big E.

  26. New post, take 2! The first one got sucked into one of those internet black holes for some reason.
