Tuesday Forecast

7:25AM

DAYS 1-5 (OCTOBER 25-29)…
Chilly northerly air flow makes it feel a little more like November than late October today and Wednesday. An approaching low pressure area from the west runs into lingering cold air and depending on the timing, the rain that it will bring Thursday may begin as a period of snow/sleet in some locations, mainly northwest and west of Boston. Regardless it turns out as a rain event for the remainder of its passage which will linger into Friday before some improvement for the start of the weekend.
TODAY: Mostly sunny to partly cloudy. Highs 46-53. Wind NW 5-15 with higher gusts.
TONIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows 27-35. Wind light NW to N.
WEDNESDAY: Mostly sunny.Highs 46-53. Wind NW 5-15 MPH with higher gusts.
THURSDAY: Clouding up early. Rain develops west to east and may start as a brief period of snow/sleet especially well northwest and west of Boston. Lows 30-38. Highs 48-56.
FRIDAY: Mostly cloudy. Chance of rain early. Lows 40-48. Highs 50-58.
SATURDAY: Partly cloudy. Lows 32-40. Highs 52-60.

DAYS 6-10 (OCTOBER 30-NOVEMBER 3)…
A couple disturbances bring a risk of rain or rain showers, timing uncertain but favoring October 30 and November 1, with variable temperatures averaging out near normal.

DAYS 11-15 (NOVEMBER 4-8)…
Pattern trends dry and milder during this period.

  1. Good morning and thank you TK. Coldest morning of the season at my house as it
reached 35. BEAUTIFUL DAY!! BEAUTIFUL! Doesn’t feel the slightest bit cold to me.

This is perfect Autumn weather. Perfect.

    1. As I look out the window over a crystal blue sky, Dave, I was thinking the exact same. Absolutely beautiful day!!

      1. You “may” see a bit of snow yourself on Thursday. Just maybe.
Highly unlikely here in the City, but still a slim chance. 6Z 12km NAM shows a touch of snow here in the city prior to rapid changeover to rain, however, the other models, including the regular NAM say Nope, need to be 40-60 miles West and North.

          1. Precip probably doesn’t come in until mid/late afternoon. I don’t expect there to be snow anywhere remotely close to Boston. The Monadnocks and Berkshire? Sure. I’m not even convinced you see any in the Worcester Hills. The later the precip arrives, the lesser the chance for any non-liquid precip. and the trend has been for the precip to arrive later.

            1. Thanks, SAK. I appreciate it. I’m thinking southern Worcester Cty might not see any either but I’ll be watching out the window nonetheless.

  2. JPDave…Thanks for posting the article regarding the weekend WBZ outage as I have over the air tv. I have never had cable and hopefully never will. I have more than enough monthly bills as we all do. I was able to keep informed as to the progress of repairs and I was pleasantly surprised that the station came back on late yesterday afternoon. I just hope that I don’t have to miss another Patriots game other than having to work.

I would say, now back to weather…but according to the updates it was the weather that caused the outage in the first place. 😉

    Thanks again. 😀

    1. Philip, Thank Blackstone as he was the one who alerted us all.
I simply looked it up and posted an informational link.

Btw, I had never heard confirmation of the cause. I “assumed” it was somehow
related to the deluge on Friday night, but did not know that was indeed the case.

      Thanks Philip.

    2. Btw,

I was just thinking….Could you not receive the Providence CBS affiliate, channel 12?

I don’t know how the signal has changed over the years, but I could always
get channels 12 from Providence very well at my house in JP. Don’t know how
the reception is at your house. For that matter I don’t even know IF
channel 12 carried the game. I just know that channel 12 is the CBS affiliate in
      Providence.

  3. As I was walking from the parking lot into the building this morning, I thought I smelled winter in the air. Love winter, love the winter smell, but my wallet still wants to hold onto warmer temps that don’t require the heat turned on. Anyone else smell it lately?

    1. I sure do. I smell it and feel it. And I LOVE it!!

I ran some numbers quickly and think that we spent more in AC this summer than we will for heat in the winter. I’ll be curious to see how close I come by the end of winter.

      1. You and me both. Just fast forward to Patriots Day and I’d be happy. I have no use for November thru March except for Turkey day and Christmas. The holidays and the NFL keep me going thru early February.
For someone who has seasonal affective disorder, February and March are brutal.

        1. That is very difficult. I’m hoping that you have found a treatment that eliminates some of your symptoms.

  4. a change to a cooler pattern come the middle of next week, looking at some long range models…. TK? others?

      1. Seems the prevailing thinking right now is that after this cooler, active stretch, we go into a prolonged period of warmth for early to mid November. Looks dry then as well; similar to the summer pattern for at least a couple weeks. Indications of a flip to cooler again by mid-late November, but naturally the confidence becomes a lot lower that far out.

  5. JP Dave…I haven’t been able to receive Ch. 12 ever since the switch to digital and even during the latter stages of analog, that station became unwatchable due to so much “snow”. Back in the day though, it wasn’t too bad. I believe many stations intentionally cut their power output during the final days/weeks of analog tv.

And thanks to you Blackstone as well! 🙂

    1. Oh sorry to hear that. I haven’t tried broadcast TV in so long, I am out of touch.

I used to have a rotaerr antenna, so I received 12 as well as 4. Even received 6
      reasonably well.

      Sorry you missed the game.

        1. It hadn’t occurred to me and I know just the place too. Oh well, the Buffalo game should be much more competitive anyway. If we win, we go 3 games up and the AFC East pretty much wrapped up.

  6. Here’s one for TK – On this date in 1925, a tornado struck Woburn, killing 1 person and injuring 6 others. The man was killed while running for cover when he was struck by a chimney brick.

    1. If that occurred during the last few decades on the same day of the week, it would have been during or shortly after the Halloween Parade that goes through the same area.

    1. I hope so. Still too early for that real winter chill. Normal or a couple degrees below is fine with me for now.

      1. I was thinking of this as more of a typical later October chill. We are closing in on Halloween which I have been known to say (once or twice or thirty times) was always winter jackets, hats and gloves under the costume weather.

        1. This is nothing. It is not cold. It is not unusual. It is very typical. In short it is late October in SNE. 😀

Too bad the Thursday system appears to be coming in
later in the day after some decent warming. Oh well.

It still looks to redevelop, but way too late and about over Eastern MA. Coming in too far North. Most if not all models are now showing this.

It would have been interesting to see if it were coming in
more to the South and West. Not in the cards with this one. 😀

    1. Great detail. Thank you.

In your last paragraph, I believe you accidentally left out a “NOT” after the word
      “does”.

It does look like there will be more snow with these systems, except possibly across the mountains of northern New England.

  7. Today I had to get out my late fall/early spring coat. Up until now, all I wore was a light jacket or windbreaker, if even that. This is the first day I actually had to “bundle up”. I have seen already winter coats and hats…not ready for that just yet. If it wasn’t for the gusty wind, it would probably be comfy cool with no reason to bundle up.

Based on the maps I saw this morning, most of the nation west of the Mississippi is having well above normal temps. My bet is those will be ours sometime next week?
