Tuesday Forecast

7:32AM

DAYS 1-5 (FEBRUARY 21-25)
High pressure hangs on today then slides to the east as a Pacific cold front approaches from the west then passes through the region tonight bringing a minor amount of rain with some freezing rain over the interior where it is cold enough. Then the story is the mild air for midweek, especially Thursday, when some record high temperatures may be challenged. Another cold front passes through Thursday night and cools it down slightly for Friday, but clouds will dominate and as the front tries to return as a warm front, some wet weather is possible later Friday. A stronger low pressure area will track through the Great Lakes and drag a cold front toward the region Saturday with wet and mild weather ahead of it.
TODAY: Sunshine followed by increasing clouds. Highs 38-45. Wind light S.
TONIGHT: Cloudy. Chance of a couple periods of light rain except freezing rain central MA and south central NH. Lows 30-38 early then rising slowly overnight. Wind SW 5-15 MPH
WEDNESDAY: Mostly cloudy. Highs 47-55. Wind W 5-15 MPH.
THURSDAY: Partly sunny. Lows 38-46. Highs 57-65.
FRIDAY: Mostly cloudy. Chance of rain late. Lows 30-38. Highs 45-52.
SATURDAY: Mostly cloudy. Rain showers likely. Lows 40-48. Highs 57-64.

DAYS 6-10 (FEBRUARY 26-MARCH 2)
Dry, colder February 26. Unsettled weather February 27-28 with a likely Great Lakes Cutter low pressure system. Fair and colder behind this may be quickly followed by a threat of rain/ice/snow at the very end of the period.

DAYS 11-15 (MARCH 3-7)
Colder with another threat of rain/snow/ice during this period.

  1. After nearly a month of 50+ hour weeks at work, I am loving this pattern – I’ve been don with my shift early for 3 nights in a row now. While I am a winter-lover at heart, I usually get to a point where I am ready for Spring. The mini-snow blitz did the trick for me this year.

Oddly, while I love baseball (second only to hockey), I usually don’t think much about it until Opening Day, and really don’t get into it until Patriots Day (which I will be attending for the 30th consecutive season). This year, for some reason, I’m excited for this team. I can’t wait for the season to start. Haven’t had that feeling in a while.

  2. This isn’t anything new …..

The run to run lack of consistency between the 00z and 12z GFS is maddening, in a funny kind of way.

        1. HA! You read short hand. yes I do. But we’ll see. I take the weeklies with a pinch of salt no matter what they show.

Latest runs of the CFSv2 still very aggressive on the development of #ElNino before Summer can even start.

  4. Good aftnoon. Woke up sick did not go to work and went back to bed.
Still sick, but not nearly like earlier this morning.

Will be on and off the rest of the day.

While previous runs of the GFS held out hope, the latest are PUKE as Mark alluded to above. I am staring at my three (3) fishing rods and reels and I too am ready for Spring.

I too agree that this baseball season should be interesting IF the manager doesn’t
screw it up which he is very capable of doing. ๐Ÿ˜€

    1. Hope you’re on your feet and out the door with those fishings rods soon. May you feel better! Spring breezes and quiet riverbends…

  5. 12Z Euro predicted High Temperatures for Boston this week:

    today – 49
    tomorrow – 60
    Thursday – 69
    Friday – 62
    Saturday – 57

They tend to be high, so take off 4 or 5 and still pretty balmy. ๐Ÿ˜€

    1. Thank you. I’m OK. I just don’t get ill very often at all. This morning threw me.
      Feeling better already.

      1. Get well. This is a nasty season for all ailments of the contagious variety.

One of my friends got hit with a head cold AND a stomach bug at the same time. And a stomach bug wiped out 75% of the staff in my immediate department at work within 2 days. I’m one of 3 people that did not get it.

        1. You are one lucky dude. Unless something changes, I am pretty lucky. I feel so much better than I did this morning. Had I felt like I do now, I would have gone to work, but
I could not this morning. No way.

        2. Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

I will quietly say I’m glad because I’m one of eight here who didn’t get it and I’m still not wanting to jinx anything

  6. Feel better JPD! One more day of rest would probably do you good. Now if only you had a winter storm to be tracking on that day of rest!!!

  7. OK, one more picture from the Sierra Nevada range. This picture is taken from someone’s condo deck. The first picture is from the beginning of the winter with virtually no snow on the ground and the second picture was taken recently after 500″+ snow have accumulated on the season. You can click on the picture to zoom in and toggle between the two. Pretty wild.

  8. JP Dave, Hope you feel better. There’s a lot going around, including influenza (both types), several stomach viruses, and some common colds (rhinoviruses). I paid a home visit to a friend last week who had been sick for 5 days with fever and nausea (like you she’s normally never ill).

I’m hoping we have at least some semblance of winter-like weather in March. We’ll see.

While I’m not a spring person, I love baseball and the Red Sox. Even during the bad years (eg, early 90s) I looked forward to seeing them play. I still get as excited as a kid when I walk up the concourse at Fenway and see the infield diamond, outfield grass, and the Wall. We already have a `great wall’ in America, and it’s called the Green Monster.

  9. I know, this is not weather related and could be perceived as political but please for our planet, go and say no to Wolf and bear hunting. We are already messing things up as it is, the thing we can do is let them be so they can try and survive as a species.

In terms of the weather where the heck did I put my shorts!!

  10. I did this elsewhere a while ago but will here now…
Weather trivia question: Boston (Logan) has hit 70 only once in February. When did this occur?

      1. Good guess but not quite right. I’ll let the question remain through the night and perhaps into the morning…

  11. In case anyone wants these that my mom found while cleaning in my dad’s old work room in the basement…
