  1. So I been paying attention to the great lakes area because I noticed an anomaly. There is an area in Northwest Ohio on the southern areas of Lake Erie, where temperatures have averaged 3 degrees above monthly averages for the pass year as well as some long range models showing a warm spot over the same area with it cooler in surrounding areas. I am wondering if this is due to the mid-west pollution.

    1. I believe temps have been rising there slowly for years. I have no doubt that you are correct with regard to pollution. Since it is everywhere, it has an affect…..everywhere.

  2. Good morning and thank you TK. Up to 43 here already (43 at the airports as of 9AM).
Will a sea breeze limit the temperature today? Ahh, sure sign of Spring, a return to colder air not withstanding. πŸ˜€

  3. Okay then….I made the comment yesterday that I was (emphasis on was) the only one of eight to escape the respiratory virus and the stomach virus that has been in the house since before Christmas. I knew saying it out loud was not a good idea.

Meanwhile, how are you feeling JPD??? Back at work or one more day of rest?

      1. These things are coming back so you are smart to take the extra day, JPD. Thank you, Tom!!! Tom did you see my post on the cherry blossoms yesterday?? It was something Eric Fisher had shared on FB

        1. Yes, I did, late last evening. That was a good read, thanks ! If I recall, March 15th is the earliest since record keeping started. With all these warm sector storms, I wonder if that might be beaten this year.

  4. Vicki, I hope you feel better soon. Take care. JP Dave, too. This year’s strains have been particularly strong, I’ve noticed. I follow these sorts of things for my work.

    1. Thank you, Joshua. I truly do not remember anything like it. My grandkids get the normal things at school but all three families have had something in their homes since just prior to Christmas with no break and they are far from alone. It comes, it goes, it returns, who knows.

haha – a little Dr Seuss in that. I have always believed it is winters without snow that are worse. I know someone else here believes the same.

    1. Hopefully, you are feeling better, Sue!

This weather will be a great boost. Windows will be open and nice, fresh air will be coming into the house! Nearing 50 here.

  5. Vicki and JP Dave, hope you both feel better soon. Take it easy and rest! I just took a little walk and yes, it is nice out – but there is still a little chill in the air. But it is still winter and Feb. after all. I wonder if it will reach 60 degrees tomorrow. Perhaps it will. But sometimes, especially w/even some snow cover I think it can cool the air down and maybe it won’t reach 60 degrees in some areas. Snow-cooled air (I made that phrase up).

  6. Beware of a lot of incorrect temps today and tomorrow. Many will be reported too high. Trust the official stations.

    1. What is official? We are currently at 52 even according to my station and 53.7 according to the local wunder station.

        1. I have always hoped for that. Hope that happens in our lifetime. I also wish the space program in this country was better- money the problem, I guess. I can’t type too much today – back and neck pain due to stress and nodules? on spine. But I had to reply to your post. We should have landed on Mars by now! πŸ™‚

          1. I think Nasa in general for all of its parts are under funded. the Earth science and space sectors need more money. I rather pay more taxes for these than some of the other things. Science needs more funding in general

  7. 7 earth like planets found 4 lightyears away… I was hoping they found evidence of life… that be cool

    1. They are attempting to determine that. Right now all they can say is
that theoretically some of these planets could support life as we know it.
If there are intelligent beings there, no way of knowing whether or not
they would resemble us in any way. Now that they have found these, SETI
can listen in in EXACTLY that area instead of roaming the skies. Perhaps they will pick up some sort of signal or not? Who knows. I am hopeful that there
are other ways to know. Seeing some evidence of certain chemicals in the atmosphere that would indicate something going on. I don’t know.

I for one am very excited about this announcement. I have been waiting for this for a very long time.

      1. TRAPPIST-1 doesn’t put out much energy, but the inner six exoplanets are in such tight orbit that they have temperatures comparable to those on Earth, Mercury, and Venus.

The scientists observations and measurements suggest the inner six planets of the system have rocky compositions, and that three of TRAPPIST-1’s surrounding bodies may orbit within a habitable zone that represents the “holy grail for planet-hunting” as they could be warm enough to host surface water and oceans.

      2. I love love love this. I have always been certain we are not the only form of life. Thank you both very much for sharing.

    1. Cool. I have about a half a dozen flowered in the front. Perhaps more. We were not here this time last year so not sure what to expect.

  8. Logan is at 54 with a facuckta sea breeze already. Geez, good ole Logan, you can always
count on them to rain on the parade.

Here, my Acurite thermometer is reading 61 in the sunshine (even though it has a solar powered fan to provide accurate readings in the sunshine!) and my Oregon Scientific
thermometer well in the shade is reading 55.4.

I would guess the actual temperature is between the 2 at around 58.

    1. Closest wunder says 60.6. Mine says 55.5. Mine is not in the sun so I’ll go with closer to that.

I’m still not sure what accurate temp reports are. But I go with what people say here and my own which I know well enough to be able to use common sense so think it doesn’t matter much.

    2. 60 degrees here at the StormHQ World Headquarters Compound. Now I get to head outside – so that I can deal with traffic and commute to the office. At least I had the windows open at home for a while.

  9. I’ll stay with mine at now 57.7. The wunder station near me is higher than others in Sutton which are closer to mine. We are in a bit of a bowl here and I would be curious to know how that affects temp. I do know that when I go to Sutton Center, the temp is consistently 2-3 degrees lower than where I am. This tends to fascinate me.

    1. You want date and year? Would you like to give choices πŸ™‚

I have absolutely no idea since I only recall events that happen closer to me. Too much junk in my head to recall more than that. I’ll say January 1, 20 blank blank. I cannot recall darn. 2013 is a wild guess

    2. January 1st. Have no idea of the year.
AND, did you provide answer for year of Logan’s only 70 degree reading
      for February?

      1. Date and year was what I was hoping for.

The February answer was given yesterday, someone had it right. πŸ™‚

    1. How long will it take you to make the journey? 40 light years. It would take you
40 years at the speed of light. I highly doubt that your means of transportation
      could achieve those speeds. πŸ˜€

  10. LOGAN AIRPORT SUCKS!@(#&*!&@*#&!*(@&#(*!&

I just took the trash barrels in (yes, I felt well enough to do so).
It is balmy here. My thermometer is reading 59 now and was 60 when I went out.

Logan at 4PM was reading 47 degrees. GIMMIE A BREAK! that is LOONEY TUNES!!

NO sea breeze effects here, believe me!

  11. Keeping an eye on the March 5-10 period for a potential prolonged light but possibly frozen precipitation event.

Keep in mind, I said “potential”, and “light” does not mean “heavy”. πŸ™‚

        1. Nope. I believe he means a prolonged event somewhere in the Mar 5-10 time frame, not a 5 day-event. πŸ˜€

    1. An artist’s conception of what the surface of the exoplanet TRAPPIST-1f may look like, based on available data about its diameter, mass and distances from the host star. –NASA / JPL-Caltech via AP

  12. Made it to 56F all the way up here in Plymouth, NH. Near unprecedented national warmth continues. Many monthly high temperature records crumbling to our west today. Severe weather threat in northern Indiana/Ohio on Friday. February? More like April-May.

    1. Haha. So close and yet so far. Thanks TK. These are fun. And don’t let anyone tell you I can be a tad competitive. The saddest part is I mostly just compete with myself

  13. It was funny to hear Pete Bouchard mention a “pseudo-bad hair day” on his forecast. πŸ˜‰

  14. TRAPPIST 1 was great. The place I visited is having a mild winter, too. Just beamed myself back by snapping my fingers – sort of like Burt in SOAP (anyone remember that series – Burt (Richard Mulligan) was one funny character).

    1. Indeed, I do remember. Billy Crystal was on that show.

Except didn’t Burt snap his fingers to turn invisible?
      πŸ˜€

      1. Ah, you’re right! Now I remember. Thanks for correcting me. They did beam Burt up to another planet, and then sent a Burt clone back to earth.

  15. A powerful Atlantic low will be traversing the British Isles and impacting the Low Countries tomorrow. First, some rain showers, but then the storm part, which will produce hurricane force wind gusts at the coast. Note, Dutch meteorologists only assign the word `storm’ to low pressure areas that produce at least gale force winds (8 on the Beaufort scale – I really like that scale and wish we used it in our forecasts). Precipitation is not considered relevant to the term `storm.’ Hence, Dutch visitors to Boston will look bemused when we use the term snowstorm even during events that produce little wind. As one Dutchman told me, “that’s snow, but not a storm.”

  16. Speaking of prolonged, I vaguely remember this February, 1969 storm. I found this blurb on the storm in the Boston Globe:

Feb. 24-27, 1969: This killer storm was blamed for 94 deaths as forecasters greatly underestimated its duration. In Boston, it snowed for a record 101 consecutive hours. New York City fared even worse, and that city’s poor snow-removal response nearly wrecked the political career of then-Mayor John Lindsay.

  17. Vail bought Stowe, I have extremely mixed feelings about this..
    1. Lift tickets go up, πŸ™
    2 Crowds increase
3 increase in food prices ( might not since they are already high)
    4. could loose the vermont feel to it as western style stuff come into play
    Postitives
1 Access to a major epic pass and if I get back into racing 800 for passes is not a bad deal for some of the best ski resorts in the country.
    2 increased amounts of races.
    3 improved grooming
    4 increased safety.
    5. Due to the competative nature of vail and the companies that own other locations in New England (killington) expect prices to go down a bit.
