    1. Captain, I didn’t realize until I went to another site that Chuck Barris had passed away. So many losses in the past few months.

  1. I figured if I left snow showers out of my fcst, we’d see a few around. ๐Ÿ˜‰

    1. Well then please leave the mention of snow in your forecast this weekend and next week, so we don’t end up with half a foot. ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚

    2. I don’t know about anywhere else, but here they were barely noticeable. The sky sure did look threatening, however.

Now, blue sky with nice puffy white clouds.

  2. Some snow showers did move through leaving a very thin coating, which has since melted. I wouldn’t call it a squall by any stretch, just a routine snow shower.

    Windy…..

  3. 12Z GFS looks warmer for the weekend, at least aloft. Perhaps a touch of snow and mix then rain predominates.

  4. I find the news coverage of the fallen fire fighter from Watertown to be way too much. They are broadcasting the funeral inside of the church on all Boston news station. It’s horrible that he lost his life while doing his job, it’s the over the top news coverage that is unbearable to watch. He signed up for that job and new the risks as all first responders do. I can’t remember a funeral being broadcast live for someone who had a heart attack on the job. The glamorization of these jobs is dangerous.

With that said… May He Rest In Peace.

      1. The main priest doing the mass is my wife’s family priest (grew up next door to him) and did our wedding and soon to be baptism. He knew the firefighter and his family very well

    1. I don’t know if I want to touch that one Coastal. The only thing I’ll say is we also glamorize sports figures and local sports teams who win their respective sports’ championships with victory parades broadcast live on all news channels. Are you saying its ok to do this for athletes who play a game for a living and not to honor fallen public servants who selflessly risk their lives to save the lives of others for a small fraction of the pay of athletes?

      1. Wow Ace, sounds like your imply something about me and I am a bit taken back. Where did I mention sports or athletes or parades in relation to first responders? Where did I mention anything about pay?

        1. Not implying anything. I’m just trying to make a comparison to other live tv coverages in the past and understand why you think this one is over the top

      2. Well said Ace . He sounded like a great guy and died in the line of duty saving strangers . He deserved every ounce of that coverage as any other heros does.

    2. They all signed up for it. I thought when someone passes it is time for family and friends to recognize the life of said person that has passed not for it to be public for it being celebritys, Military first responders you or me. Its time for family and friends.

    3. I understand your line of thinking. However, Boston media is pretty good at covering the funerals of those that pass on the job protecting lives. I think it’s good they do that in this day and age where it seems less people care about police, fire and military. There are other states where this is just a single story on a single night. I think a more parallel comparison than the sports one above is: we cover the deaths and funerals to an extreme extent of politicians and even foreign royalty. A few days programming for a fallen firefighter who led a life of service and passed on the job is a good balanced gesture.

Hope this explains why I believe they do it. Cheers.

      1. Finally!!!!

Thank you for the thoughtful response. It was appreciated, however still I do not agree with the media coverage. I feel the sensationalism of the police and fire departments may attract the wrong kind of people for those positions. I mean, who doesnโ€™t want to be a hero, right? Well if you have people in those positions because they want the title โ€œfire fighterโ€ or โ€œpolice officeโ€ or โ€œheroโ€ then the actual work will suffer thus putting the public in danger. I have had conversations with police and fire officials and they agree that they have come across some that want the attention. Itโ€™s scary if you think of it.

        1. Coastal, you will come across a FEW in every profession who do not fit. Media coverage or no, that will not change. Basing views on a few is a huge problem in our society today. The biggest test of all is not in the job but in getting through academy. And to that there will also be exceptions, but I’m truly surprised any police or fire individual would not have told you that.

          1. I’m not judging a group by the behavior of a few no would I ever! I’m am talking about a influx of candidates that don’t have it in their gut to perform in the appropriate situation.

            1. Coastal, I’m very surprised that you have police and fire who are telling you this. I’m even more surprised that they don’t know there is NOT an influx of candidates – good or no – because there are so few new hires in Massachusetts…..and have not been for years. Academies are few and far between. New hires are even fewer. I’m now quite curious about how legitimate these folks are and wonder, if they are telling you this, why you base your view of what you now claim is a whole slew of new folks entering the field on the opinion of a few police and fire officials you know but who don’t seem to know what is happening in their own field.

That is the end of the conversation as far as I am concerned. I respect TK far too much for it to continue. I respect police and fire far too much to take part in a conversation that belittles folks for being the ones who stand between us and danger….especially when it on the day of a funeral for one of those folks.

              1. Vicki I honestly give up. I post something and you spin it into something I didn’t say. It’s really painful to be honest.

        2. Ah but you see this is why you have many barriers to becoming either a fireman or a police officer. For example you have to take a written psych exam and a live psych eval with a psychiatrist. Not to mention rigorous physical tests for any of the positions where people would need to be brave. This is just the tip of the iceberg but attention seekers have little path to that which is why you don’t see the trope of hero is actually the arsonist playing out with firefighters in the news.

Add to this the point that we shouldn’t govern how we live just because there are a crazy few. If we did that we wouldn’t hold marathons anymore let alone televise them.

  5. Thank you TK! It is a beautiful day here at Fort Jackson. The storms last night were quite intense. The rain hitting the window of our hotel room sounded like a hurricane. Made for some excitement for sure.

  6. BEAUTIFUL afternoon, albeit on the cool side. ๐Ÿ˜€
Just came in. Brilliantly bright sunshine. Love it.

  7. Quite blustery out there today! Wind Advisory was a good call I think.

Looking like a very unsettled stretch of weather on the way starting Friday. As I’ve been expecting, most of the models have shifted the target area for any potential frozen precip to the north. SNE will be mainly dealing with liquid precip. It won’t be raining all the time, and it doesn’t look like there’s a high threat for excessive rainfall, but Friday through at least Tuesday will likely feature a lot of clouds, light rain, and raw temperatures with little sunshine.

    1. It’s almost like the next Arctic blast is more of a glancing blow like a back Door cold front. It’s moving more NE of us rather than down towards us.

    1. Personally, I don’t think so. Not sure what the criteria is, but I believe
it is somewhere in the neighborhood of -20 wind chill before they do that.
Not sure we reach that level. It’s cold, but I don’t think it will be that cold.

      I could be totally wrong.

      1. I thought it was windier in Newton when I was there earlier but just arrived home and it is very windy here. I agree. I do love this weather. Wind felt great. Sunshine warmed the car to the point I didn’t need heat.

        1. There have been 2 periods of stronger winds, one just post-front, and the other since about 2PM.

  8. The TV mets are forecasting mostly cold rains as opposed to snow/sleet for early next week. Maybe John is correct and we are done with snow threats after all. For me personally, I always look to the very first week of April for any last snow opportunities and after that, we are usually done for the season. Yes, there was 1987, but that was extremely unusual and not likely to occur in our lifetimes.

    2016-17 snowfall @ Logan to date = 45.8″

    1. Lest we forget May 1977. ๐Ÿ˜€

Let’s see now, that would be 40 years. Is it a 40 year event? 100 year?
200 year? Whatever it is, it could happen again.

Of course TK and others have been forecasting a pattern flip to milder if not warmer coming up sometime in April. If so, that would likely preclude
a May snow event. However, all it would take is a brief Cold interlude
interspersed among warmer days and a storm threat and viola. One never knows. Am I forecasting it? NO WAY! I don’t want it anyway.

As far as April snows, too many to list.

      1. And FWIW, that event seems like it was yesterday to me.
I cannot believe that 40 years have past since that event.
        WOW! Does time ever FLY!!

      2. Of course I remember May 1977, but I was referring to the latest April snow in 1987. I say focus on one month at a time. And as for a May snowfall, that has to be a 100-200+ year event IMHO.

      1. Funny thing about that, isn’t it. ๐Ÿ˜€

I will say I am ready for Spring and since I am, I’m sure we’re in for another dose of Winter.

Ordered 2 spools of new fishing line that have been shipped already.

        Bring on SPRING!

  9. Out of the box I am a fan of the new NAM, especially the 3km version. No, don’t automatically assume this is the “best thing ever” but I think we’ll see better forecasts from this product that we have.

A testing period will be immediate, since contrary to GFS it has a little more snow for Friday. We also need to keep an eye on its performance in the 48-60 hour period in comparison to the previous version.

    1. Agreed. The previous NAM only provided hourly data up until 36 hours. With the new 3km NAM model, it will be interesting to see if it is able to provide accurate hourly data at the 60 hour mark.

  10. walking outside on campus today. went through what we call the alley which is between the buildings then when you get to the library and the court yard… Bang, that wind hit ya like a bunch of bricks.

  11. I seem to have an affinity for grilling when it is cold. Oddly, no one in the house likes it when I leave the slider open.

21.2 with wind from the north…directly at deck….gusting into the high 20s. Oddly, again, I thought it felt really refreshing.

  12. Good morning. Only made it down to 17 here. Not as low as I expected. ๐Ÿ˜€

Just when ocean temperatures should be starting their ascent, they are FALLING.

Boston bouy at 39.9 and Stellwagen is at 38.7

Really nice as we near the beginning of April. Sea breezes will be brutal this Spring.
I knew we would pay fo this mild Winter. We always do.
