Saturday Forecast

1:45PM

DAYS 1-5 (MARCH 25-29)
People say the weather has been “crazy”. They are wrong. The type of weather we have had, even the mild winter months followed by the cold March, are not really atypical. The glorification of weather in the news is the reason for many false misconceptions and resultant labeling of everyday weather as “crazy”. In the mean time, we’ll go on forecasting whatever you want to call it. And there are not many changes to the previous update as we watch a frontal boundary sink to the south and the colder side be our lot for the next few days here in southern New England. Precipitation will be mostly in the form of rain, and rather limited, during the weekend, with a long period of dry weather for Sunday with even a little sun possible. A more widespread shot of rain with some potential for mix/snow arrives on Monday, with yet another one later Tuesday. By Wednesday, we should find ourselves on the back-side of a departing and intensifying low pressure system which will pull a month-ending shot of cold air into the region.
THIS AFTERNOON: Cloudy. A few periods of rain, may mix with or turn to sleet/snow northern MA and southern NH at times with minor accumulation. Temperatures fall into the 30s. Wind NE 5-15 MPH.
TONIGHT: Rain mainly southern areas early otherwise cloudy, though clouds may thin out northern MA and southern NH. Lows 29-38 north to south. Wind NE 5-15 MPH.
SUNDAY: Limited sun possible northern MA and southern NH mainly in the morning before clouds thicken up again. Rain possible southern MA, CT, and RI later in the day. Highs 38-45. Wind NE 5-15 MPH.
SUNDAY NIGHT: Overcast with periods of rain, may mix with sleet/snow northern MA and southern NH. Lows 32-40. Wind NE 5-15 MPH, higher gusts.
MONDAY: Overcast with periods of rain, may mix with sleet/snow northern MA and southern NH. Highs 35-43. Wind NE to N 5-15 MPH, higher gusts.
TUESDAY: Cloudy. Risk of rain/mix mainly late day into night. Lows 28-35. Highs 35-43.
WEDNESDAY: Mostly cloudy. Windy. Chance of rain/snow showers early. Lows 28-35. Highs 37-45.

DAYS 6-10 (MARCH 30-APRIL 3)
Dry, colder March 30-31. Risk of unsettled weather at times April 1-3 with areas of low pressure passing south of or over the region again, with temperatures remaining somewhat below normal.

DAYS 11-15 (APRIL 4-8)
A continuation of an unsettled and cooler than normal pattern is expected.

  1. the so called crazy weather is a result of climate change. The crazy weather will continue and become more extreme.

    1. Since our climate is always changing, I generally agree with you.

My main point above though is aimed more at media’s over-dramatizing everyday weather. A cold March, a few very windy days, and some… *cue dramatic music* SNOWWWWWWWWWWW in the early days of spring, AFTER the Equinox? I mean why?! It’s SPRING?! It’s supposed to be warm! This is exactly how it’s become, and it’s planting false perception in the minds of many viewers. The weather may be more extreme at times now than it was a couple decades ago, for whatever reason(s), but at least back then getting a snowstorm in March was not the “end of the world”. And I’m being too nice here. Even a snowstorm in the middle of winter is treated like some insane event. If they want an example of a major event, tell them to research the drought in California (which is finally easing somewhat), or the Dust Bowl in the 1930s, among others. I think it’s time they stick to the facts when reporting everyday weather. The larger problems will be much easier to focus on and talk about when they get rid of the daily clutter. 😉

      1. Sadly, such as many areas in our society, money dictates media. Unless people stop “clicking”, over dramatized weather forecasting will prevail. May as well be lumped into the “fake news” category.

TWC, among many other new/weather sources, has really become an collection of click bait. Very discouraging.

The silver lining… WHW stands tall among the other resources.

Thank you for quality, quantity and consistency TK and all others that make this blog the special place it is.

      2. I agree, I have said for a while that I believe that something we can do as scientists, is release the scientific papers for scientists to use/compare/ dispute but then do a simplified version that we make, to put out to the public. We say this is what we want you put out media. I even think we could possible get it so that Noaa has a tv station with their mets instead of/ or with the weather channel or accuweather. Not replacing them but giving people a more forecast based channel.

  2. Thank you, TK, and hello to everyone.

Happy Birthday to the real Captain Fantastic!
    Elton John is 70 today!

Kinda makes me feel a little old today!

  3. Interesting afternoon. Visiting my mother in Haverhill, 34 degrees and snow with big flakes. Driving home on 495, just outside Haverhill, 35 degrees and a mix. Get home to North Reading, 36 degrees and rain.

    1. That sudden change to yellow/orange makes me think sleet.
But perhaps it is the big flake snow? Or just downpours of rain.

      Interesting no matter which.

  4. The band of precipitation has shrunk to a narrow band now.
Still raining here even though radar says it’s snowing.

  5. Still RAINING here, but sky is brightening so I suspect rain is just about done.
Never did snow. Didn’t even see a flake mix in. According to HRRR it’s now cold
enough above. Oh well, it didn’t last long enough to matter.

  6. I was in Westford this afternoon. Had snow mixing in there, for a few minutes there was all snow but it was short lived.

    1. Thanks once again! At least we assured of no more snow for the rest of the month into April Fool’s Day…no foolin’. 😀

  7. Vicki–Don’t know if you saw that I posted on the last blog. I have the super-de-duper transition lenses and I really like them. The only problem is that they take longer to lighten up when you come in from the bright. But I use them for driving, the beach, etc; don’t have sunglasses anymore. They’re fine for driving, for me, anyway. Hope you love yours!

    1. Deb I am SO happy you posted again. I did not see your post. That is what these are supposed to be. You made me feel much better since it may be a long time before I can test them. They told me they would always have a slight tint but I explained I was a child of the 60s so tinted glasses would be like going home again. The lovely young woman who fit me sort of just looked at me but the older eye doctor got it 🙂

    1. Haha. I knew something sounded off. It wasn’t WILL Farrell in mash. Oh well, glad to know I’m not missing anything …..I’ll just go back to sleep now 🙁
