  1. It’s dark here in Sudbury now with constant rumbles of thunder. On the dopplar radar it looks like heavy rain area is expanding to the south – at this time, anyway. I am expecting it to pour here at any time.

Weather statement just came up for strong thunderstorms for MetroWest area.

    1. Note: strong thunderstorms about to approach area soon. Wind is picking up a little here.

  2. Hearing some real thunder in Newton. Brief shower then stopped. Not sure if more rain coming.

  3. At least a couple good things it will hold the temperatures down for a little while and give the lawns and gardens a drink of water.
Thunderstorm Index just at 1 for today and for early next week since at the moment it does not look like we will be dealing with severe weather.

  4. We got some heavy rain here in Sudbury – actually is brightening up. Sky is rather beautiful, I think. It is dark to the southwest and west with a general overcast with bright spots scattered. Basically – a typical summer sky. I love when the sky looks like this. Anyway, I don’t think we will get full sunshine yet – there are still some showers out to the west, unless they dry up.

I am hoping that the energy that is going through now might stabilize the air enough so that when the front goes through later on there won’t be any severe weather. Although I agree with JimmyJames – we could use some rain.

    1. I don’t think will see severe weather today. The storm Prediction Center’s slight risk area is for the Northern Mid Atlantic
today and it won’t be as hot as yesterday.

  5. I’d been listening to some good rumbles as the cells were passing by my area in Woburn. No really heavy rain, light to briefly moderate. But at 8:46AM, a lightning strike less than 1/2 mile away (heard the snap before the big boom) sent all fire units to a house just down the road from me. What was first reported as a house fire is turning out to be just a blown transformer. Hopefully damage is minimal. I’m taking a ride down there with my son in a few minutes when I determine the CG lightning threat is done here.

  6. Good rain in framingham. Some spectacular lightning bolts and as rain shine said interesting sky with cloud levels. Temp dropped from 70 to 64.

  7. A follow-up to the lightning strike nearby. It struck 1/2 mile from me, at the corner of my street and a side road, but it appears to have hit the utility pole near the house that reported the fire at first. It was, indeed, just a damaged transformer at the house. Power to all other homes in the area is still on. I did not observe any visible damage to the home, poles nearby, or trees in the area.

  8. It will be interesting if Boston reaches even the mid-90’s today given the early clouds and showers. I was outside briefly and it does feel much better relatively speaking of course. Inside the house still very uncomfortable. The thunderstorm activity in my area was not really much home to write about, not particularly dark and the shower was brief and “moderate” at best with occasional rumbles of thunder. I still wouldn’t have wanted to be caught out in it though.

My high temp prediction for Boston (Logan) today = 93F 🙂

  9. We just had a major storm roll through Pembroke. I am guessing the windgust was at 60mph with intense lightning and thunder and heavy blowing rain. I was sending this out earlier and lost power. As I look around my yard stuff is thrown about. I think It is starting to wind down. My house shook twice.

  10. The sky is getting brighter now. I feel really lucky right now. I do not remember a storm as strong as the one that just came through, that thing had some energy with it. I wonder how SST made out in the next town over.

    1. Hi John.

I was further south, so, I missed that particular storm. But we were watching them across the lake pass to our north. We did get hit by a less intense storm about a half hour later.

  11. Yes, I was thinking somewhere around 91 or 92. Still pretty cloudy. And that’s a good thing!

  12. If it were not for the early clouds and showers, I really believe that today’s record high temp of 100 degrees (1952) was very possible. I was somewhat surprised that most mets were keeping temps in the mid-90’s even w/o any early shower threat.

As of this morning, N.Y.C. southward still predicted temps of 100+.

  13. With a 10 to 18 MPH west wind at Boston and lots of sun this afternoon, they should have no problem making 95, despite the delayed “launch”.

  14. Clearing out rapidly here in JP. Temp jumped to 82. The west wind will easily bring us into the mid 90’s by 3 pm.

  15. I think my 13 is going to be off by quite a bit. Maybe I will do better with my winter prediction. Looking ahead to August and The Farmers’ Almanac which you know I don’t believe is that accurate the 1st-3rd there calling for sultry for the east with a tropical disturbance threat for the Cape and then the end of the month very hot with many areas coming close to 100 degrees.

  16. Interesting update from NWS for tomorrow.

***SIGNIFICANT CHANGES BEING MADE TO THE FORECAST FOR SUNDAY

ACTIVITY MAY BE ENTERING OUR REGION TOWARDS DAYBREAK AND CONTINUE
INTO SUNDAY. SOME HEATING ON SUNDAY ALONG WITH SHEAR MAY ALLOW FOR

  17. Thanks for the post.
I am going with a 1 on the thunderstorm index for now but stay tuned on this. One thing I don’t see is a widespread severe weather outbreak from this feature.

  18. Good Morning. Some rain in Framingham as my husband left for his 7:30 tee time in Hopkinton. I hadn’t seen the update before shutting the computer down for the night so we were both surprised. Since my husband says it never rains on a golf course I figure he won’t mind 🙂

  19. Sorry had a remote issue last night so could not update when I wanted to.

Not a perfect day today but not terrible either. Update coming shortly after 10AM.

  20. Thanks TK…looking forward to your next blog! I also noticed that the trolls were quite active once again yesterday on Joe’s and Barry’s blogs. Very sad to say the least.
