Sunday Forecast

7:46AM

DAYS 1-5 (APRIL 30-MAY 4)
High pressure and a cooler air mass is the story for southern New England today, though advancing warm air aloft and some mid level instability may support some showers into western areas this afternoon. Warm front comes across southern New England Monday, followed by a cold front Monday night and early Tuesday, and high pressure Wednesday. The next low pressure area approaches Thursday. The resultant weather expected is broken down in the next several lines.
TODAY: Partly sunny. A few showers possible mainly CT and central MA by mid afternoon. Highs 52-57 coast, 57-62 interior. Wind N 5-15 MPH shifting to E.
TONIGHT: Mainly cloudy. Chance of light rain mainly after midnight. Lows 44-51. Wind light E.
MONDAY: Mainly cloudy. Chance of light rain. Highs 55-60 coast, 60-65 interior. Wind light SE shifting to S 10-20 MPH late.
MONDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Showers likely. Chance of thunderstorms. Lows 50-55. Wind S 10-20 MPH shifting to W by dawn.
TUESDAY: Partly cloudy. Chance of showers early. Highs 65-70 South Coast, 70-75 elsewhere. Wind W 10-20 MPH.
WEDNESDAY: Mostly sunny. Lows from the middle 40s to lower 50s. Highs from the upper 50s to middle 60s, coolest East Coast.
THURSDAY: Increasing clouds. Lows from the upper 40s to middle 50s. Highs in the 60s.

DAYS 6-10 (MAY 5-9)
Watching for a possible significant rain event somewhere early in the period and a persistent upper low that would keep the weather unsettled through the period.

DAYS 11-15 (MAY 10-14)
Somewhat milder/drier weather expected. Continued low confidence forecast.

  1. Thanks TK

Lovely morning for tea on the deck.

Turkeys and noisy red wing blackbirds and lovely cardinals are on the playlist for the morning.

  2. While Logan’s temp during the day will be in the low 50s, the high temp for the day will be recorded as 66F because that was the reading at midnight.

  3. Thanks TK
SPC has us in general thunderstorm outlook for tomorrow.
From NWS Taunton for tomorrow night
Strong SW low level jet will result in excellent moisture
transport, and help to organize modest instability ahead of a
cold front. Not expecting severe weather, since the primary time
period would be Monday night, but with 45-55 kt winds, cannot
    completely dismiss the possibility.

    1. Well you’re asking me for specific timing almost 5 days in advance, which is a little impossible to do. But yes, there’s a chance.

      1. Will be interesting for the Mason to dodge the rain to complete the patio. But it is the time of year

  4. Thanks TK. It looks like on radar there is a pretty healthy shower coming in. Was hoping to avoid as we are having family over, but doesn’t look like that is in the cards.

  5. Thanks TK. We’ll get a couple more decent days early this week, but by and large, I think the weather will become pretty unpopular for most folks for much of the first half of May. Cool temperatures, clouds, and rain look to dominate. My concerns over excessive rain potential late this week have eased somewhat; there still looks to be an initial batch of heavy rain around Friday-Saturday, but the bigger story may become the lingering cloudiness, showers, and cool temperatures for days on end behind the initial heavier rain.

  6. Rain moving in here. Thought I heard a very distance rumble of thunder just before rain began. Could have been blasting somewheee also

  7. Wasn’t expecting mid level instability with associated rain showers to make it this far east and neither were other forecasters. Bummer.

  8. General thunderstorm from the SPC for tomorrow.
Parts of western PA and NY under an enhanced risk for severe weather tomorrow where the radar maybe lighting up like a Christmas tree.

  9. Was a nice spring shower with a good amount of rumbling thunder and lighting but nothing loud. It dropped the temp to 51

  10. When I went out for breakfast a little before midday, it was sunny and 57. Just had a shower come through and the temp is down to 45.

    1. Fast moving batch of rain. Will last under an hour and then it’s gone with left over instability clouds.

  11. beautiful morning.

I was out fishing and enjoyed it immensely. Had quite a day with the fish as well.
    Here is the tally:

    Large Mouth Bass : 8 – Largest 17 inches and 2 pounds
White Perch: 16 – 4 of them were a foot or more.
Yellow Perch: 9 – All standard size
Blue Gill (sunfish): 20 – some very large for sunfish

Biggest disappointment, no Trout. Oh well, the Bass made up for that
and I have never seen so many white perch in my life, never.

Here is the first spot I fished. This is the Dam at South Natick on the Charles river:

How could one ever be upset looking at that. Btw, I was most comfortable with a tee shirt and a light zipper down sweatshirt open in the front. It was fantastic.

    1. What a great day on many levels. JPD.

I love that spot. We had many picnics there when kids were younger. Little Lola’s across the street has some great food to take home. We often get their lasagna but prefer cheese to meat.

      1. 😀

What amazes me is that this place is HEAVILY fished.
The fish I caught were not stocked as they are natural fish there with a sustaining population. The trout are stocked, but didn’t catch any. Weird.

I use night crawlers and worms naturally presented with a smaller very sharp hook on flourocarbon line that is virtually invisible to the fish. To me as well as I have a heck of a time trying to tie a hook as I can barely see the line. 😀

  12. Wow, my forecast REALLY SUCKED today. HAHAHAHA!

I’d say this was in the bottom 3 of the year so far. No. It’s the worst one so far.

Anyway, I posted this elsewhere but here is a snopes article calling out a fake news story going around social media. Fake news at its “finest” (worst).

    1. You are the ace of the staff, TK…
You are our go-to guy and will always get the baseball in Game 7!

      1. Well today I would have been knocked out by the 3rd inning if that’s the case. 😛

  13. Let’s play European Roulette and see where the ECMWF decides to put the upper low on May 9 on today’s run! 😀

    1. The vlb is calling for snow may 9

And TK I agree with captain…..I think you were just keeping us all on our toes 😉

      1. Right! You are too kind. As I just stated elsewhere on the internet, I couldn’t forecast my way out of a paper bag today… One of those days. 😉

        1. I seem to recall someone telling me just around noon that we would not see the sun again this afternoon…..I have not seen the sun again. And I’m not in a paper bag 🙂 🙂 🙂

Whoa…wait…did that “right” mean snow on the 9th

This is how rumors start huh?

          1. I am not convinced of the snow, but given the date, I won’t rule it out either. You know how that goes.

Yes, by noon I knew we’d be outta sun for the most part, but just a few hours before that, I underestimated not only the clouds but the showers and t-storms. Everything just advected eastward far more rapidly than I expected.

            1. Tough to call a few hours a failure. Me thinks you are your own worst critic. But that isn’t always a bad thing. It’s how we learn. Just listen to us too…please.

  14. You could get dizzy watching that upper low spin around our region for 7+ days on the 18z GFS 😛

  15. Don’t even think about beating yourself up on your forecast TK! The shower in my area lasted all of a few minutes…so what’s a hundred miles off? 😀

    1. For interior western New England, if the sun ever breaks through, their temps may soar. It is tremendously warm above as it is back into the low 40s atop mt Washington.
