Saturday Forecast

11:12AM

DAYS 1-5 (AUGUST 19-23)
A stretch of warmer weather gets underway this weekend but a bit slowly today as a weak cold front moves offshore and a slow dry-out process takes place. High pressure will be dominant Sunday-Tuesday with a gradual increase in heat, most noticeable Tuesday. Eclipse weather for Monday looks perfect with sunshine and just a few passing clouds possible. The solar eclipse begins at 1:28PM, peaks at 2:46PM, and ends at 3:59PM. At peak, 60-65% of the sun will be covered depending on your exact location in southern New England. When we get to Wednesday, a cold front is due with a shower/thunderstorm risk, but timing is not easily determined this far in advance.
TODAY: Any remaining low clouds diminish with more sunshine. Isolated pop up shower or thunderstorm possible southeastern NH, eastern MA, eastern CT, and RI this afternoon. Humid. Highs 75-80 South Coast, 80-85 elsewhere. Wind light SW shifting to W.
TONIGHT: Partly cloudy. Patchy fog. Less humid. Lows 60-67. Wind light W.
SUNDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 78-86, coolest Cape Cod. Wind NW 5-15 MPH.
MONDAY: Mostly sunny. Lows in the 60s. Highs in the 80s.
TUESDAY: Mostly sunny. Lows from the middle 60s to lower 70s. Highs from the middle 80s to lower 90s.
WEDNESDAY: Variably cloudy. Chance of showers/thunderstorms. Humid. Lows in the 60s. Highs in the 80s.

DAYS 6-10 (AUGUST 24-28)
Dry weather August 24-26 with a brief cool down then a slight warm-up as I believe a cooler trough is being over-forecast by the models. More humid and wetter weather is possible by later in the period and we will have to continue to watch for a possible tropical system being involved or possibly not too far away.

DAYS 11-15 (AUGUST 29-SEPTEMBER 2)
As with the end of the 6-10 day period we will need to keep an eye on the tropics since it’s impossible this far in advance to know if any storms will be about and what the exact track and timing would be. I throw this caution out due to the pattern being one that could support an East Coast threat. Outside of this expect largely fair and warm weather.

  1. Thanks TK! Impressive night on the boat in Edgartown Inner Harbor. Lashing intense rain and strong winds kept us up for quite a while. The dinghy had the most water in it we’ve ever seen. Will be interesting to learn how much rain fell here. AT&T cell service seems to be down. Perhaps due to lightning?

  2. Boylston and Park Street Stations are currently closed with trains bypassing these stops in both directions.

  3. Some of the clouds out there to the north and west have really good vertical growth, yet no rain on radar.

  4. Thanks TK. Today is a transition day. We’re entering into one of the mini-ridge patterns that we’ve seen a few times this summer which will bring us the warm weather for early in the week. Powerhouse frontal system moves through around Wednesday morning. Definitely eyeing that for severe weather potential but right now the timing looks unfavorable for most of New England. The SPC has outlooked areas to our west for Tuesday. Cooling off behind that, with the resumption of the Great Lakes trough pattern that has dominated the summer. A drier pattern overall. I think we’ll struggle for above normal temperatures in the medium to long range. Not especially cool, but no big heat in sight to me. I think the final week of the month averages near normal after the coming warm stretch.

  5. Down to 66 at the airport. Is there a FREEZER out there?
The East wind has penetrated to my area. Ahhh here it actually feels very nice indeed.

      1. Well a couple of months ago was a totally and completely different situation as you well know. There is a monumental difference between the East wind in August and April. 😀

  6. Thanks TK
Quick peak at 12NAM on cod site WAY and I mean WAY OVERDONE with the severe parameters for western parts of SNE and Upstate NY Tuesday. Values in helicity supercell composite significant tornado through the roof in those areas.

  7. Thank you, TK.

Cool here in Back Bay. My guess is 70F. I have a short-sleeved polo shirt on and shorts and felt like I could have worn more on my stroll through the Esplanade a half-hour ago.

Sox are playing some good, exciting baseball. It’s too bad there’s so little interest. Baseball is fading away in the minds of many. I hear more talk around me about a Patriots pre-season game than I do the Sox-Yankees series. To me that’s bizarre given the practical irrelevance of pre-season in any sport. That’s telling, and should be alarming to baseball team owners. Future TV rights negotiations/deals will likely erode teams’ revenue base, along with dwindling fan numbers (in the stands, on the MLB network, and purchasing MLB merchandise). The exorbitant salaries will then become unaffordable, and I predict teams will fold. Not the Sox, or any of the major market teams. But, surely the Brewers, Rays, Marlins, and maybe the Braves.

    1. Baseball is a a pass time sport in which you go and cheer your team but you are also there mainly to hang out with your friends. Also tickets are like 25 bucks for us at Umass Boston.

  8. Its funny mean when David Price went on the DL the team is something like 13-2.
I am not a Red Sox fan but that was a bad signing for a guy who can’t get it done in the postseason.

      1. About the same I believe. He can stay on the DL as well AFAIC. He has developed a bad attitude as well like Price.

  9. Red Sox with the amount of money left on the contract are going to have to eat most of it if there looking to trade him. I can’t see any team wanting to take on that contract.

  10. Last night was just the 2nd time I saw a thunderstorm here on nantucket and it did not disapoint, It poored here, with wind, thunder and lightning. Saw alot of the activity to the north of the area, so looking out the big picture window was really cool. tried taking some pictures but it just was not working out this time.

  11. NAM model last two runs really is not doing too well. WELL OVERDONE severe parameters for western parts of SNE and Upstate NY. If this was Tuesday and other models showed this I would be very concerned but thankfully its not Tuesday and it is the NAM.

  12. Sox trailing 3-0, top of 3rd inning. Hard to believe with Sale pitching.

No TK, I am not giving up on them yet..I’ll give them another couple innings. 😉

  13. 2 incredible Cape Cod rain events in a 6 week period. 7/7 and 8/19

Both events dumped multi-inch amounts in a few hour period.
