Friday Forecast

3:18PM

DAYS 1-5 (SEPTEMBER 29-OCTOBER 3)
No significant changes for this update. A nice fair weather Friday with a bit of a cool gusty breeze, feeling like autumn after our bout of summer. A small but potent disturbance will bring some unsettled weather late tonight and a good part of Saturday, followed by the coolest air of the early autumn so far. Recovery will be fairly quick though and a warm-up will already be underway Sunday afternoon after a chilly start, and continue into early next week as high pressure again dominates.
REMAINDER OF TODAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 62-67. Wind N 10-20 MPH, higher gusts.
TONIGHT: Increasing clouds. Showers arriving pre-dawn. Lows 45-52. Wind NE 5-15 MPH.
SATURDAY: Mainly cloudy through mid afternoon with showers likely, ending from north to south later in the day with some partial clearing especially north. Highs 55-62. Wind NE 5-15 MPH, shifting to N, with higher gusts.
SUNDAY: Mostly sunny. Lows from the upper 30s to lower 40s interior valleys, middle to upper 40s elsewhere. Highs in the 60s.
MONDAY: Mostly sunny. Lows in the 40s. Highs from the middle 60s to lower 70s.
TUESDAY: Mostly sunny. Lows from the upper 40s to middle 50s. Highs from the upper 60s to middle 70s.

DAYS 6-10 (OCTOBER 4-8)
High pressure will dominate with fair weather and a significant warm-up October 4-5. A cold front should bring a switch to somewhat cooler weather but still above normal temperatures middle to end of period.

DAYS 11-15 (OCTOBER 9-13)
The rain risk may increase as we go through this period with temperatures generally above to near normal.

  1. Thanks TK. I am going hiking in the White Mtns next weekend, preferably on Sat the 7th. Any thoughts on timing/intensity of the cold front that it looks like will be pushing through around that time? Hoping it will be moisture starved as the GFS would seem to imply.

  2. I need to get this off my chest in terms of the major differences in response to the natural disasters even though there has been a variety of factors in making them different.
Harvey, got very got alot of attention as it was the first, but with that, Mexico came in to help, but when they needed help, we left them hanging and they rightfully left to take care of themselves.
For Florida, we are barely hearing anything about the Keys in which they are devastated still, I have friends that are down there.
With the Caribbean, many European countries, Latin America are sending a large amount of aid to many of the Islands but due to American politics, they can not get in. The USA is being greedy with its own people. I been to both PR and the the Virgin Islands, those people are great ( I do not stay in the touristy areas as I like to learn cultures and never disappointed, shows us how rude America is) We owe our fellow citizens the respect and help they deserve I understand money is tight, but sometimes we need to open the bank account.

    1. Absolutely. We helped Japan extensively, Haiti after their earthquake, but now when it’s time to help those from our own country the military is not being deployed at the rate it should be. We spend all kinds of money on the military, this would be a good spot to put it to use.

  3. Looks like just north, northeast of Boston is getting clobbered with heavy rain this morning.

Well described scenario in Taunton NWS discussion.

  4. Nice low level inflow from the ocean feeding that north shore rain event.

Harbor buoy wind at ESE (110 degrees) at 15 to 20 knots. It’s mild too, 60F thanks to the 62F water temp.

  5. There is a flash flooding warning for areas north of Boston. I heard earlier there was a severe thunderstorm warning for that area that has the flash flooding warning.

    1. There was ….. A small cell has re intensified again, sitting perhaps 1 – 3 miles north, northeast of Boston.

Not as intense, but up by Newburyport is another area sitting under moderate to heavy rain for a while now.

  6. If this keeps up much longer, I wouldn’t be surprised to see some very localized area report 5 + inches of rain.

    1. Looking at radar, I think Logan may be in the torrential rain now. I see a red echo dipping southward. Wonder how much rain they see btwn 8 and 9 am ??

Meanwhile, the sun is out here.

  7. I wonder if that rain area is destined to rotate down onto the south shore as the upper level low continues its track southeastward ????

  8. NWS Taunton discussion is a must read this morning, summing up beautifully this very interesting event taking place around Boston. Storm sitting almost over the airport, just a couple miles east of there now.

  9. There have been occasional hints of weak rotation in that storm, but the wind fields in general are very weak (hence the slow motion). Still, there were a couple waterspouts over the Great Lakes shoreline under similar circumstances yesterday.

  10. Yankees win today, Sox rained out and they have to go into tomorrow playing a double header without the AL East clinched. Possible scenario 🙂 🙂 🙂
