Tuesday Forecast

7:28AM

DAYS 1-5 (OCTOBER 24-28)
A slow-moving cold front will take until Thursday morning to completely be offshore so it will take nearly 3 days to transition from the warm and humid southerly air flow we have now to a cooler westerly air flow behind the front. Upper level low pressure still has to cross the region during Thursday so this basically results in a 3-day unsettled stretch, including some badly needed rainfall, though much of that will take place from late tonight into Wednesday. High pressure returns to bring dry weather for the end of the week.
TODAY: Mainly cloudy. Occasional showers, a few briefly heavy. Much of the time rain-free. Highs 68-73. Wind S 15-25 MPH, gusts 30-45 MPH.
TONIGHT: Cloudy. Occasional showers evening. Band of widespread showers, some heavy, with possible thunder, moving in west to east late. Lows 62-67. Wind S 15-25 MPH, higher gusts.
WEDNESDAY: Overcast. Numerous showers morning, heaviest eastern areas. Occasional showers afternoon. Temperatures steady in the 60s. Wind S 10-20 MPH with higher gusts, shifting to W.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Cloudy. Occasional showers. Low 55-60. Wind variable mainly W 5-15 MPH.
THURSDAY: Mostly cloudy. Scattered showers. Highs 60-65. Wind W 5-15 MPH.
FRIDAY: Mostly sunny. Lows from the upper 40s to middle 50s. Highs in the 60s.
SATURDAY: Mostly sunny. Lows from the middle 40s to lower 50s. Highs from the middle 60s to lower 70s.

DAYS 6-10 (OCTOBER 29-NOVEMBER 2)
Mild with clouds arriving October 29 but wet weather likely holding off until late or at night, into October 30 before a drying and cooling trend through October 31. Fair and turning milder November 1-2 based on current timing.

DAYS 11-15 (NOVEMBER 3-7)
Still uncertain on pattern evolution but current thinking is mainly dry with a mild start then trending cooler.

  1. Thanks, TK…

“Red sky at night, sailors’ delight; Red sky in the morning, sailors take warning.”
A nice, stormy-looking red sky at pre-dawn this morning.

    1. My oldest grandson got a bit kick out of this saying when we were at the beach this summer. Made me smile reading it.

  2. Thank you, TK. Hope you are feeling 100%

Kudos to anyone who saw the sun this morning. Uncharacteristically, I could have stayed in bed several more hours. Just felt like one of those days.

65 with 55 dp here and .32 rain overnight. When I woke up around 3:00, it took me a few minutes to figure out the sound I heard was rain. It has been a while.

  3. Like Vicki, it took me awhile to figure out it was raining. I was hearing this drip-drip-drip. Oh, it’s raining! Later, approx. around 6:30 a.m. or so, briefly the whole sky appeared pinkish. Very pretty.

  4. I love all of my clients, but I think one just went to the head of my list. During a phone conference, he commented that he loves this kind of weather and has figured out how to open his kitchen window so that the wind will whistle/howl through.

  5. SPC Severe outlook for today

And the tornado risk. Did someone mention that the SPC might place part of the region
in the 2% risk??? (JJ and WxWatcher perhaps?)

AND will that area expand Eastward later?? perhaps so.

Significant tornado Index is around 1 for most the area, including Boston
    on most of the models.

  6. No it wasn’t supposed to say “middle 40s to lower 70s”…

    Fixed.

Amazing what a few hours of lack of oxygen in the blood will do.

  7. The “red sky” proverb mentioned above appears in the New Testament, in the book of Matthew:

    Jesus said:

When it is evening, you say, “It will be fair weather; for the sky is red.”
And in the morning, “It will be stormy today, for the sky is red and threatening.”

    1. I never knew that. Thank you, Captain. My grandson (who is an old soul) has always had a fascination with Baby Jesus. He will love that he was the one who said these words.

  8. We had a bit of sun a while ago as I headed out the door. Around 11:30 as I recall. Clouds are back and wind seems to have picked up a bit.

  9. Crazy eerie sky with lower layer of clouds running south to north and upper layer running the opposite….or so it appears. Sun tried very hard to come out but was surrounded by dark clouds…..sky looked almost green. Perhaps, for its littlest angel, Devin Suau.

We just had a five minute torrential downpour but again odd rain with smaller drops.

    1. We have had bursts of bright sunshine with patches of blue sky and then seconds later it gets cloudy again. If this was June, July or Aug. I would call it “destabilizing sunshine”. I don’t know if that will increase any severe potential around here. Wind has been up since mid-morning. And, yes, the sky has been looking weird. Didn’t see any green, ‘though. And no rain. A weird but kind of fascinating day weather-wise.

  10. I’m getting plenty of gusts above 30 MPH here.

I’ve had many people ask me today “where’s the wind” and/or “what happened to all the rain”. Those folks did not actually pay attention to the details of the forecast. πŸ˜€

    1. Hmmm my comment didn’t post

We have had strong winds all day. Stronger in pm with chairs blowing completely across patio. They have not done that all summer.

Can we have a tstorm please

    2. Same thing just north of you. Winds are howling, definitely had at least one gust to 40 MPH+ since 4PM.

  11. Thank you, TK.

I did not know that Jesus was a weather observer. Thank you, Captain F, for sharing. I believe Jesus spent most of his time between Nazareth, Bethlehem, and Jerusalem. Jerusalem and Nazareth have quite a bit of variety in terms of weather. Elevation plays a role.

  12. Out in Dedham. wind howling pretty good.
Into the 30s with some definitely into
the 40s. Spoke to my daughter before I came out. She was re-routed on her way home from Medfield to Hopkinto due to many downed trees.

  13. Zero rain here since early this morning. Central MA getting the brunt. Will it move east? Doesn’t look like it as it’s moving S to N but we’ll see

  14. A stark 10PM update from the Taunton NWS. Growing concern on their end for widesrepad and significant flash flooding in west-central MA. They mention potential for homes to be inundated and water rescues. Also noting the rotating storm potential. I’ve observed multiple broad rotating structures on radar the past couple hours. That isolated tornado threat has not gone away. Be weather aware tonight. Threat gradually shifts east with time.
