Tuesday Forecast

9:32AM

DAYS 1-5 (NOVEMBER 28-DECEMBER 2)
Two moisture-starved fronts will cross the region during the next couple days, a warm front today, and a cold front Wednesday. The cold front may try to send a few rain showers into the region but it looks as if most of them will either dry up or pass north of the region. So despite these fronts traversing the area, we will see largely fair weather, and this will continue for the final day of November on Thursday as high pressure dominates. A low pressure area will track eastward, passing north of the region on Friday. A round of rain showers will occur with this system, but its progressive nature means that after a wet Friday morning it will likely dry out rather quickly. Fair and cooler weather should then return and dominate through Saturday. This will be favorable weather for all high school football championship games, a few of which are Friday night and the majority of which will be on Saturday.
Detailed forecast…
TODAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 43-49. Wind W 5-15 MPH with higher gusts.
TONIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows 33-39. Wind WSW 5-15 MPH with higher gusts.
WEDNESDAY: Partly sunny. A passing rain shower possible in the morning. Highs 53-59. Wind WSW 10-20 MPH with higher gusts, shifting to NW.
THURSDAY: Sunshine, late clouds. Rain showers arriving during the night. Lows in the 30s. Highs in the 40s.
FRIDAY: Mostly cloudy start with early rain showers, then sun/cloud mix. Lows from the lower to middle 40s. Highs from the upper 40s to lower 50s.
SATURDAY: Mostly sunny. Lows from the middle 20s to lower 30s. Highs in the 40s.

DAYS 6-10 (DECEMBER 3-7)
Expecting mainly dry weather during this period with a chilly start then a moderation to above normal temperatures.

DAYS 11-15 (DECEMBER 8-12)
The pattern will start to become more amplified as we head toward mid December. However, this does not mean an immediate dive into colder and higher snow chances for New England. We may be temporarily trapped on the warmer side of the pattern for this particular period of time, with fair weather for a few days and then unsettled weather as the trough to the west begins an eastward advancement. Will closely monitor the evolution of this expected pattern change.

  1. Thanks TK.
Just a boring weather pattern right now and hopefully things turn around second week of December.

    1. We shall see. Regardless, not a darn thing any one of us can do about it so for now we shall just enjoy each other’s company.

    2. I realize on this blog I’m in the minority but I find nothing boring about this pattern. I’ve seen some nice frontal passages, even dry ones, temperature swings, radiational cooling mornings, frost patterns, cloud formations, sunrises and sunsets.

Weather is so much more than “hard action”. There is so much subtle beauty and wonder to see. I just can’t categorize any day or pattern as boring. To each their own, but this is me… 🙂

      1. No doubt there have been some beautiful aspects about this “boring” pattern, especially the sunsets. I guess for us common folk we judge the weather excitement by how many comments we can tally on WHW. 🙂

  2. For those who are bored, AccuWeather Quizzes.

    1) The date of the earliest sunset in 2017 is …

    A. January 2
    B. November
    C. December 8
    D. December 31

    2) The study of the clouds is called …

    A. Nephology
    B. Cryology
    C. Bioclimatology
    D. Daydreamerology 🙂

    Answers later today.

  3. Thank you, TK. I am late to the party 🙁

I have started sitting out on the deck around 10;30ish every night listening to Christmas music and maybe enjoying a glass of something! I love this weather. I’ll love a storm too but in the meantime…

  4. Bernie

my level of interest and excitement is rising for late next week. Get the cold established with trof and look for digging shortwave in NW flow. Video discussing this will start..perhaps tom.

      1. My Euro service does not yet have the 12Z run out that far, else I could verify that. Will do so when it is available.

  5. Bernie is probably a bit early.

The ECMWF & GFS are slightly better on their 12z runs. I think the ECMWF has the right idea but is also fast, earning it the nickname “Excellent ‘Cept Moves Way Fast” for today.

  6. According to Eric, late next week through the end of December we will be locked in to the cold & snow pattern.

    1. Love Eric but I know someone who just may have said the same thing about five months ago. I will not divulge any names. But it is possible the initials are potentially the 20th and 11th letters of the alphabet. 😉

  7. I believe we are seeing some meteorologists and winter weather enthusiasts jump on one run of the 12z ECMWF and are grasping at the final forecast hours.

I think more likely area and time to watch is pacific energy diving into the northwest around 12/13 and see what becomes of that post 12/15.

12/16-1/2 is an interesting window, but even if it does not pan out, one anomalous storm inconsistent with the pattern in January or February can take every seasonal snowfall prediction and leave them looking puny and incompetent.

    It is November 28th….

    1. I love the GFS. It’s 300+ hour forecasts are never wrong. 😉

Should be just about into the new pattern by then. It’s forecasting the switch just a little fast. There will be one tease then a pull back, then a stronger push into the new regime for a while.

      1. I know, long ways out, but the pattern sure looks like it could support something like that beginning around that timeframe.

  8. Answers to quizzes.

    1) The date of the earliest sunset in 2017 is …

    A. January 2
    B. November
    C. December 8
    D. December 31

    The correct answer is C.

    2) The study of the clouds is called …

    A. Nephology
    B. Cryology
    C. Bioclimatology
    D. Daydreamerology 🙂

    The correct answer is A.

  9. Neat this morning to see the relatively mild, humid air going over the now cold surfaces, forming the moisture that makes it look like it rained.

    1. I made note of that as well late last evening while carrying recycle bins up to the curb. 🙂
