Saturday Forecast

8:42AM

DAYS 1-5 (APRIL 21-25)
First, a star gazing note: The Lyrid Meteor Shower peaks tonight, or in the early hours of Sunday, between midnight and dawn, with up to 20 meteors per hour possible. The sky conditions will be favorable for viewing this event with moon setting just after 1:30AM and no clouds.
High pressure will bring fair weather with a slow warming trend into Tuesday, along with typical cooling sea breezes in coastal locations. Low pressure will approach from the southwest later Tuesday with the risk of some wet weather arriving before the end of the day, continuing into Wednesday as the low moves through the region.
TODAY: Mostly sunny to partly cloudy. Highs 48-53 coast, 54-59 interior. Wind N up to 10 MPH with coastal sea breezes.
TONIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows 30-37. Wind N up to 10 MPH.
SUNDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 50-55 coast, 56-61 interior. Wind N up to 10 MPH with coastal sea breezes.
SUNDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows 32-39. Wind light variable.
MONDAY: Sunny. Highs 52-57 coast, 58-63 interior. Wind light variable with coastal sea breezes.
TUESDAY: Increasing clouds. Chance of rain late. Lows from middle to upper 40s. Highs in the 60s except 50s immediate coast.
WEDNESDAY: Mostly cloudy. Rain tapering to rain showers. Lows in the 40s. Highs in the 50s.

DAYS 6-10 (APRIL 26-30)
Additional disturbances will bring a chance of rain and rain showers April 26-27. Drier, breezy, cool April 28-30.

DAYS 11-15 (MAY 1-5)
I continue to have uncertainty about the pattern as May begins. I’ve seen computer-guidance hints of things ranging from a continuation of the April pattern to a quick shift to more persistent warmth to the rapid development of an omega block with this area on the unsettled side of it. If I had to lean toward any of these for the first 5 days of the month, it’s persistence of the pattern ongoing now through the next 10 days. This would probably mean a front or low pressure system would visit the region about 2 times during that 5 day period, so there will be plenty to work out, as far as detail and timing.

    1. It’s funny, I was driving to my friend’s house with the game on, was in the car for the 3-run homer, then I couldn’t watch or listen to the game for about 90 minutes, left to come home, put the game on in the car, and heard the grand salami. ๐Ÿ˜‰ All the runs for the Sox scored on 2 swings of the bat.

      1. I just hope they don’t end up like the Celtics with a miraculous start then in second place looking up at Toronto (or the Yankees) in the fall.

        1. Different team. Different sport. Different circumstances. They won’t keep up this pace all season but we’re looking at a top notch team. The Celtics started great but are 1 or 2 years away from peaking, maybe longer.

      1. Thanks, TK.

Cool outside, but not cold like it has been. Feels more like spring. Perhaps winter has fought his last battle until November, at least in SNE. Time will tell.

      2. Agree TK. It is lovely

For those who have hummingbird feeders, they have returned to MA. Time to put the feeders out !

        1. I put away my shovel for the season on Thursday. It is the latest ever. I usually have it away by Patriots Day and sometimes much earlier. Canada appears warmer now with daytime highs well into the 30s-near 40 from Barry’s recent map.

My safe date this year was April 19th. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  1. Thanks TK. With lots of sunshine, a drying surface, and still pre-leaf out, we should have some very pleasant days ahead, and will likely exceed model forecast temperatures in many areas. Monday in particular looks spectacular. Sea breezes will definitely be a factor in this stretch though.

    1. Monday will be peak “niceness” of this stretch as I think Tuesday, though mild, may end up with more of a S to SE breeze taking away some of the warmth near all coastlines, and also we’ll likely have the sun fading away during the day. Still have a suspicion that system to the southwest arrives here a little more quickly than progged.

    2. I have yet to see any real tree budding and not much flowering either. Daffodils still struggling to bust out and forsythias spuddering. A very cold spring indeed.

    3. Buds arrived here at least a week ago. Forsythia are starting here but were ahead as we drove Sutton to Sudbury yesterday.

Daffodils are in line with what they were a couple of decades ago. Relatively far behind the past several years.

          1. Back in the 1990s and before, they were pretty much equal to this year. Theyโ€™d be up but buds closed just before we headed south on April vacation for our drive to charleston to visit Macs parents. I was always sure weโ€™d miss them bud before our return but they waited ๐Ÿ™‚

            1. Alot of plants start to bud about 2 weeks ahead of schedual, They are thinking of changing the cherry blossom ceremony in DC within the next couple of years as on average they have been blooming a week earlier

              1. This year is the first that they are back on the old schedule. They may want to wait to decide on cherry blossoms

    1. The Lake Effect jackpot zone in the Tug Hill plateau west of the Adirondacks sticks out like a sore thumb!

    2. Skiing Sugarloaf this weekend. The mountain looks like mid-winter in terms of snow coverage. Top half of the mountain is quite good winter conditions skiing. Bottom half is good spring skiing. They will close in a week or two simply due to lack of a crowd. Amazing.

      1. Same deal at Mount Snow Thursday. Mid winter conditions and tons of cover. Itโ€™s a shame everywhere is closing down but they just donโ€™t get the crowds this time of year. Killington will be open till June 1st though for sure.

  2. Hmmm me thinks we OVER achieved in the temperature dept.
    59 at 4PM logan. I’m sure it hit 60. 61 at Norwood.

My equipment is showing 65, but that is Sun induced due to where I had to locate it.

    1. Refer to my comment above… most locations exceeded the consensus temperature forecast today and will do so again the next 2-3 days. Whatever number seems to be the consensus, add 3-5 degrees to it.

  3. Big difference in my yard this year with all buds / flowers. Much later this year.

    1. I moved my pool opening by two weeks. Figure the green-up will be behind by that much and don’t need all the pollen and stuff in it. Made that mistake before.

      1. wind blew off the pool cover, probably gonna to remove the cover and refill the pool with new water as its contaminated. Its also time for a new liner .

  4. When you only show up for the 3rd period, it won’t win you a playoff game. ๐Ÿ˜› Game 6 on Monday in Toronto. Hey, most people thought this series would go 6 or 7. Go B’s!

The Sox may have been shut-out and no-hit tonight, but at least a good friend of mine witnessed his first no hitter in person. Kudos to Sean Manaea for an incredible performance. Hope the Sox can start a new win streak on Sunday! ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. According to Dan Roche, the trend in the Bruins series is the team that scores first wins the game. Had I known that, I would have turned it off when Toronto scored the first goal of the game. Live and learn. ๐Ÿ˜‰

      1. I think it’s funny though. The team that scores 1st wins the game. Well why don’t we just end each game when someone scores first? Every game, 1-0. Done.

        I hate stats like that.

  5. Matt,

Why do you think the water in your pool is contaminated? Run the filter pump and add enough Clorox to bring the chlorine up to 20 ppm and hold it there. Itโ€™ll clear. You donโ€™t need new water.
If your going to get a new liner, donโ€™t worrry about it then. How old is the liner? They should last 10-12 years. Iโ€™m on year 11 and I should get one or 2 more seasons out of mine.

    1. Oh yeah, amazing how you can clear water up. When we bought our house a few years back, the pool hadn’t been used for years. Water was as black as coffee. Took some work but we got it crystal clear. Converted to salt too which makes things so much easier. And no chlorine smell.

      1. Yea, mines a salt pool too. 3000 ppm salt you canโ€™t even taste. Makes its own chlorine.

    2. Liner is 16 it lasted rather long, there are some streatch areas at the stairs that have separated over the water line and is really faded. I would love to change the pool to a salt system but not sure how expensive it would be. Looked under the pool cover and it’s already black, it also smells extremely disgusting. This mess would of been avoided if my brothers listened
