Friday Forecast

6:59AM

DAYS 1-5 (APRIL 27-MAY 1)
A wave of low pressure moves rapidly northeastward and brings a return to wet weather this afternoon and evening to southeastern New England. Behind this we get into a mild southwesterly air flow ahead of a cold front on Saturday. This front will bring rain showers to the region Saturday night but a rapidly closing-off upper low will then slow the front and allow a wave of low pressure to develop on it, however already north of the region, but close enough to prolong unsettled weather to some extent through all of Sunday and Monday. This represents a change in the expected scenario from previous forecasts. The upper low will be moving away by Tuesday which will be a fair weather day to start the month of May. Forecast details…
TODAY: Partly sunny morning. Cloudy afternoon with periods of rain with embedded heavier showers by late in the day. Highs 56-64, coolest coast. Wind light SE.
TONIGHT: Cloudy evening with rain showers and possible thunderstorms with locally heavy rain. Mostly cloudy overnight with areas of fog and isolated rain showers. Lows 48-55. Wind light SE to S.
SATURDAY: Mostly sunny to partly cloudy. Highs 58-64 South Coast, 65-72 elsewhere. Wind S to SW 5-15 MPH.
SATURDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy with rain showers and a chance of thunderstorms. Lows 50-57. Wind SW up to 10 MPH.
SUNDAY: Cloudy with rain showers morning. Variably cloudy with scattered rain showers afternoon. Highs 58-64. Wind SW 5-15 MPH.
MONDAY: Variably cloudy. Chance of rain showers. Lows from the upper 40s to lower 50s. Highs from the upper 50s to lower 60s.
TUESDAY: Partly sunny. Lows in the 40s. Highs in the 60s.

DAYS 6-10 (MAY 2-6)
High pressure along the East Coast and a westerly air flow over southeastern New England will bring a summer preview with fair and very warm weather May 2-3 with warmth continuing into May 4 though there may be showers and thunderstorms in the area as a cold front approaches. This front should get just south of the region for the May 5-6 weekend which may feature more cloudiness and a few episodes of rain showers along with somewhat cooler weather.

DAYS 11-15 (MAY 7-11)
Unsettled weather early in the period then a trend toward fair weather. Temperatures near to above normal.

  1. For model watchers, the web page tropicaltidbits.com is now displaying FV3-GFS, which is the experimental GFS that will eventually take the place of the current version of the model.

Don’t use this has true guidance at this point. It’s just in experimental phase and may not always be complete. It will also arrive considerably later than the regular GFS for now.

  2. I never thought BB would waste a first round pick on a running back.

They have the 11th pick today. Hoping they pick up Mason Rudolph. Good QB with high NFL potential.

  3. Good morning and thank you TK.

So what was the reason they didn’t lose power in that video?
    My only guess:
The damage was done to an area of the house away from the main power feed.

  4. Thanks TK. Bummed about the forecast for Sunday. Hoping it changes. The Easter Bunny got Red Sox tickets for the kids that day.

        1. No, That’s Santa Claus. Easter bunny hops onto
the front steps and magically opens the door.

            1. Our Easter bunny has always left little bunny tracks to lead to the hiding places for the youngest hunters.

            1. I have a bunny living under my front porch.

I have no intention of getting rid of it.
It is the cuttiest little thing. I see it in my
front yard almost daily. It can live there as long as it wants. It will not damage the
structure. I might be worried if I had a yard full of flowers, but I don’t so the
little bunny can live free. Let it eat the neighbors flowers. πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

                1. Actually, and it took me two years to figure this one out, that may be why we also do not have squirrels. I don’t miss those.

  5. Thanks TK. Happy Friday to all πŸ™‚

Definitely some changes in the shorter term portion of the forecast. That upper low has been trending slower and slower. Will keep the air aloft very cold and allow for lots of clouds and some showers Sunday-Monday. Not washouts though. Summer warmth still very much on track for the middle of next week. And I still like a generally above average temperature regime for the foreseeable future.

          1. I see morning and pm rain showers. I didn’t translate that to an overall rainy Sunday. Perhaps TK can verify.

        1. Oddly enough, it is and is a bit brighter. Although, often when it brightens temporarily, it seems to be followed by a downpour.

The radar is showing heavier rain. I’m just not seeing it.

  6. Just looking at the 12z EURO and the 500 mb feature above us at 72 hrs (pretty strong feature)

Perhaps some low top convection with hail possibilities Sun afternoon into Monday ???

    1. Euro Total Totals Index absolutely, positively supports what you say
      for Monday PM.

      This shows 52-56

The other severe weather indices, not so much.

But the Totals is a good indicator of T-storms.
      Here is what it means:

      51-52 Isolated severe storms
      53-56 Widely scattered severe

  7. Hi all!

In the video I posted, the reason the power stays on is because the utility lines in that area are all underground.

As far as Sunday goes, I’m leaning wettest in the morning then just isolated showers and intervals of sun after noon (in general). I still have to fine-tune that forecast.

  8. Thank you, TK.

Your forecasts are very accurate. Sure, you make a couple of mistakes. But, you explain to all of us the reasons why, in layperson’s terms. I really appreciate that. I so wish TV and radio mets would be similarly inclined. I see their smiley faces this evening and it kind of irritates me. I think back to Tuesday when they all said “we just have to get through Wednesday, after that it’s smooth sailing.” Sure, several suggested a 10-20% chance of a sprinkle or shower in Boston on Friday. But, that was it. My, how things changed. And that’s fine. Meteorology is difficult and subject to change. But, oh how I wish people would explain themselves. I will say this extends to other areas as well, like manager’s and coach’s press conferences. Do they all think we have amnesia, or are all fools?

    1. I think the problem in general media is they have to answer to so many people so many times and cover broadcasts, social media, etc., and what’s starting to be sacrificed is actual forecasting time.

  9. This draft is pissing me off. The fools had 2 picks in the second round. Now they’re trading them away. The second round pick the got for Jimmy G was traded down to the Bears for a 4th round pick. So essentially they got freakin ZERO for Jimmy. ZERO!!!

  10. Ok. I see they got the bears 2nd rounder in 2019 for that trade.
But they still got squat for jimmy G. That slot corner they got was for their original second round pick.

  11. Friday night entertainment. Those silly fools have managed to give us decades of a team all of America would like for their own. I, for one, am happy they made the decisions they did.

    1. I think they did fine in general. I’ll always root for them but if I never saw another Super Bowl win in my lifetime it wouldn’t devastate me.

Bruins hockey will forever top all the other sports & teams in this area. Always has, always will.
