A warm front approaches and eventually passes Saturday but a period of rain will accompany it. A cold front crosses the region during Sunday bringing the chance of showers. Not all of the weekend will be washed out, but it will be far from stellar. High pressure arrives with fair weather Monday before the next disturbance brings a chance of showers by Tuesday.

TONIGHT: Cloudy. Lows 50-56. Wind NE to E up to 10 MPH.

TUESDAY: Mostly cloudy. Chance of showers. Lows in the 50s. Highs in the 60s.

DAYS 6-10 (MAY 23-27)
Fair weather expected May 23. Another disturbance brings the next rain or shower chance about May 24 then it looks drier and warmer for the middle to end of this period.

DAYS 11-15 (MAY 28-JUNE 1)
Fair/warm weather expected early in the period, then a shower/thunderstorm threat increases to end May before fair weather returns at the end of the period.

  1. First on a Friday!
    Thanks, TK!!!!

I know that I speak for most here wishing WxWatcher congratulations on his degree from Plymouth State tomorrow. You will do great things in your field, amigo!

Enjoy a wonderful day tomorrow with your family and friends!

    Well done, Jonathan!!!!

      1. Thanks Matt, I’ll be starting grad school at SUNY Albany in the fall. I’ll be working as a teaching assistant there as well.

        1. Nice, doing masters or Phd? TA ships can be more difficult than RA positions i have had experience in both strange for an undergrad but I have done it. I can say being a TA is harder than a RA.

        2. WxWatcher…..I’m so very proud for you of of you. There is no question in my mind that you have a very bright future ahead.

  2. Good morning and thank you TK.

Congrats WxWatcher. I wish you the best. I surely hope you stick around the blog
even if you land a job in Tulsa. πŸ˜€

TK, what are my chances of staying reasonably dry Sunday morning
through Noon? Thinking of fishing again. I don’t mind a shower here and there, but
I do not enjoy fishing in a steady rain. Many thanks

  3. Thanks TK, and thank you Captain et al. for the kind words!! I’m sure I’ll have a few pictures to share tomorrow. Hoping the rain holds off until later in the day; it looks okay right now. Ceremony is inside but we’ll want some pictures outside πŸ™‚

    1. At least it won’t be 115 degrees. Wasn’t that the forecasted high for May 19 about a month ago?

  4. Have your thoughts changed at all in regards to the timing for the rain tomorrow (referring to your comment yesterday which had some timing)

  5. Another school shooting – this time in TX. Word is sketchy, but I’m hearing at least eight killed.

            1. Sadly, I think there are solutions both sides of aisle can agree on. We simply have short memories so do nothing.

            2. The reason for no solution is people are only reacting with raw emotion on the topic and too soon following. Until we start talking about it with a level head without pointing fingers and jumping to conclusions, we will continue to have no solution

              1. The reason is that too many people insist on the right to have guns AND further refuse to allow reasonable background checks before a gun can be purchased.
Without going any farther than that, how on earth could any reasonable person object to back ground checks? Also why AR-15 rifles can be legally sold in this country is beyond me.

Look, I am as far as anyone could be on the side of no guns. If it were up to me, there would be NO GUNS available, period.

                But that ain’t gonna happen.

SO, I would be perfectly content with the following:

                1. BAN the sale of AR-15 weapons and the like.
                2. REQUIRE proper background checks such that persons with mental issues CANNOT purchase a gun legally.

Is that too much to ask?

                1. Create a registry that is not so multilayered that it actually works. Keep guns from the hands of those suffering from mental illness. Empower family members to have guns taken from those they feel are a danger until determined they are not.

Ace moderates on both sides are not the problem. It is extremes who make the noise. Both sides. Why we allow it is ridiculous. But then th nra fuels the rhetoric

                2. The extremes being the problem is exactly my point. I guess it didn’t come across like that.

                3. I will say, the mental illness thing is tough. I think it would be discriminatory and unconstitutional to deny someone the right to bear arms with a mental illness. Depression is characterized as a mental illness, do u realize how many people in the US are diagnosed with depression? I will say, getting into the more psychotic and personality disorders like schizophrenia and bipolar would be justification to deny guns. It’s a tough issue.

                4. Good comments, Ace. It would be decided in court but until then it would be restrained. There is probably a fine line with due process, but I know as many on the right as on the left who support it

  6. Our middle school won for raising the most money for the Jimmy Fund this year.

Prize is a Red Sox player to visit.

It was Joe Kelly this year. Fun assembly, he was very personable. We’ve had some players in the past who were short spoken and lacking personality.

So, we’ve had Pedroia, Youkilis, Travis Shaw, Pedro (he was very personable too) and Kelly. We’ve had 3 others, who I cant remember.

Red Sox radio announcer Joe Castiglione spoke, as he always does. He lives in Marshfield. Pretty cool this year though, his granddaughter is in my math class and our cluster.

Thank goodness it wasn’t hot, our gym does not have A/C.

    1. That is fantastic, Tom.

I will miss Joe Castiglione when he finally retires. He’s such a great announcer, and seems like a good person, too.

Pedro Martinez is astoundingly intelligent. His command of English (obviously a second language to him) equals his command of the fastball and change-up. He is remarkably articulate.

    2. Good to know that the Spring seabreeze was beneficial for a change. I get the impression that your school wins quite often. Congrats Tom! πŸ™‚

      1. We have raised money 8 times and are 8 for 8.

At 1,100 students, I know our huge school size makes it much easier to raise money. Still, its beneficial to the Jimmy Fund, so that’s really good.

      1. Does he smell like one as well?

Only time I ever saw him was at a poker tournament. πŸ˜€

  7. JP Dave…
No steady rain Sunday. About a 40% chance of passing showers, slight risk of thunder but I wouldn’t cancel any plans based on that.

    1. Many thanks Mr. TK. Much appreciated.

Unless I get up it is pouring rain or anything else should happen, I am planning on fishing. πŸ˜€

  8. For more postive news for once.
We here in the USA have only native Americans practicing whaling in a small scale mainly in Alaska. The populations of the Balleen whales have been decent for a while in USA waters. But in the southern hemisphere its a totally different story. But there are good news. A major Humpback whale baby boom is happening and could make a 45% increase in the southern hemisphere population.
