Wednesday Forecast

7:23AM

DAYS 1-5 (MAY 30-JUNE 3)
High pressure maintains control today but a cooler onshore flow dominates. A slight warm-up as this high moves off to the east Thursday but clouds increase ahead of a warm front that will introduce higher humidity to the region by Friday. A period of showers and possible thunderstorms later Friday into Saturday will be the result of a cold front dropping through the region and will set up a cooler weekend that will end up largely dry as high pressure from Canada pushes the moisture to the south. Forecast details…
TODAY: Sunny. Highs 67-75, coolest coast. Wind light variable with sea breezes.
TONIGHT: Clear. Patchy fog in low elevation areas. Lows 51-57. Wind light variable.
THURSDAY: Sun followed by clouds. Highs 68-75 coast, 75-82 inland. Wind light SE to S.
THURSDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy. A passing shower possible. Lows 55-62. Wind light S.
FRIDAY: Partly sunny. Isolated showers/thunderstorms late in the day. Highs 73-78 coast, 78-83 interior. Wind light S to SW increasing to 10-15 MPH late in the day.
SATURDAY: Mostly cloudy. Showers likely in the morning. Lows in the 50s. Highs in the 60s.
SUNDAY: Mostly sunny. Lows in the 50s. Highs from the middle 60s to lower 70s.

DAYS 6-10 (JUNE 4-8)
High pressure brings dry/cool weather June 4 before wet weather to the south pushes northward again sometime in the June 5-7 period before drying out again late. Temperatures below normal.

DAYS 11-15 (JUNE 9-13)
One or two period of unsettled weather as the region sits in a battle ground between lingering cool air in Canada and building warmth to the south with the cooler side probably being dominant here.

  1. TK, thank you for the hours you spend to make this blog possible, for us to learn and share, and for our whw family.

  2. Matt, you are correct that it is important to reboot your router. Did mine this am and then will run a full scan and contact Norton to see if they have further instructions. Perhaps, some tech folks on here have advice. I know we have several.

    1. I rebooted ours as well, but I read that just a normal re-boot might not be enough. I read somewhere that a factory reset needs to be performed?
Can anyone comment on that? thanks

I also checked the list and as of now, my router is not one of the problem ones, however, that list “may” not be complete.

      Here is the current list:

Here is a list of known affected routers, compiled and posted by Symantec:

      Linksys (models E1200, E2500 & WRVS4400N)

Mikrotik RouterOS Versions for Cloud Core Routers (versions 1016, 1036 & 1072)

      Netgear (models DGN2200, R6400, R7000, R8000, WNR1000 & WNR2000)

      QNAP (models TS251 & TS439 Pro)

Other QNAP NAS devices running QTS software

      TP-Link R600VPN

  3. Good grief!!! Just got caught up from the later entries to the blog yesterday.

I believe someone has LOST their mind or at least their way.

TK, please don’t change a thing. I love your style and your dedication to this blog
is immense. Please keep up the outstanding work.

And for people leaving the blog due to Vicki? HUH??? What you smoking????
INSANE comment. Just absolutely INSANE. Vicki, don’t change a thing.

Getting back to business, Thank you TK for today’s entry.

Even though there was a sea breeze yesterday and a frontal passage last evening, it wasn’t enough to cool the house off. At least the front has finally lowered
the dew point as it is now down to 52 here. Temp 65.

    Another beautiful day on tap.

Sure there have been a few crappy days, sometimes back to back (and mostly weekends) , but overall, it is been a mighty fine month.

I have been really busy at work and have not been posting as much.

Have a great day all. 😀

  4. Thanks TK. Some positive changes in the overnight guidance for the start of June. May not be so bad after all.

    Vicki, you are a true WHW hero… I second Tom’s nomination 🙂

  5. Like JPD, I also just caught up on the comments on yesterday’s blog. It is no secret that I consider Vicki a true friend and someone I have leaned on in tough times. Most don’t know the amazing amount of support she provided me when my dad was so ill last year and subsequently passed away. There is no better person you can have in your corner.

If people have left this blog because of her then they are clearly not the type of people we need here. In my opinion TK is the brains behind this blog and Vicki is part of the glue that holds it together. I, for one, appreciate both of them immensely and am grateful for TK creating this blog and the family that we have become.

    1. Thank you, Sue. My heart aches because I know your comment brought back sad thoughts. You and so many others were always there for me as well. I so agree with your last sentence. Hugs.

  6. I think some, if not many people’s perception of the weather is drastically impacted by weather app Forecast icons. From now through Labor Day it often seems that by Sunday afternoon the apps will already be showing raindrops and clouds on “next weekend” – both days , if not everyday of the upcoming week even if the actual chance forecast chanceof rain is minimal. Since many people check the weather apps constantly, by the time the weekend arrives they’ve seen the icons dozens of not hundreds of times (which is of course why the apps are created in the first place ) which I think might be the cause of so much “weather complaining?” Maybe what’s different is the tendency of social media to amplify anything. 24/7 -365

    1. re: Apps
People simply have the wrong apps. 😀 😀 😀

      Re: Social Media
      Agree 100%

  7. I am truly humbled by everyone’s comments. Thank you is simply not enough. I am also blessed to be part of this incredible family.

  8. JPD and others, I spoke to Norton. They were basically useless. They did say to update the firmware on my router. I’ll call Verizon. Norton wanted to know where I received “this information,” and then proceeded to tell me it is just my provider asking me to update. They had no clue the FBI had issued a bulletin.

  9. I’m headed to the Pacific Northwest for the very first time in my life. I’m house- and cat-sitting (7 of them!) in a town northwest of Everett, Washington. I’ve heard wonderful stories about the wildlife and natural beauty of that region. Weather-wise it’s usually nothing to write home about – frequent bouts of rain – but I was accustomed to that during my time in Europe. Given that it’s probably going to be cool here during much of the period that I’m away – 5 to 12 June – I’m guessing the Seattle area will experience a warmth surge? As you know, I’d prefer 60s to 80s and 90s, but it’ll be an adventure regardless. I hope to visit the home where Jimi Hendrix grew up, and also the town of Aberdeen where Kurt Cobain spent his childhood (much of it in the town library – he was an avid reader and didn’t want to go home because of all the conflict). I might also go to the world’s largest factory – the Boeing plant. And, spend some time with Howard Schultz, sipping a Starbucks latte. And, Bill and Melinda Gates, discussing world poverty. And, Jeff Bezos, debating the pros and cons of having Amazon establish its 2nd HQ in Boston.

    1. Sounds like an interesting trip. Enjoy and clue us in on the weather you
      find out there. 😀

    2. Joshua, have a great time. Back in the 80’s, Bill Gates was my “hereo”. 🙂 At that time I had hoped to be a programmer. Actually, ‘though I was an administrative assistant doing basic clerical work, I fooled around with some programming and succeeded in programming things. I used Visual Basic and Basic. But couldn’t get a job due to lack of training. It was fun, ‘though.

  10. I am still here on WHW. It’s still my go-to for the weather – thank you TK.

And Vicki, you are one of the kindest people I know. I just wish we had met when we lived closer. Sorry I missed Mac’s memorial. Maybe someday we will get together.

    1. Good to hear from you again.

I like Bill Gates. Not the fact that he monopolized back in the 90s. But, his openmindedness and true caring for people who suffer.

Unfortunately, my `career’ in programming at Andersen Consulting was a mini disaster. I was able to program in Cobol – late 80s, early 90s – and could even program a bank ATM (our first projects were in that field). But, I wasn’t good at it. Pure logic still escapes me to this day. My mind often wanders in directions that pure logic would not take it. My father was a point A to B person, and nothing in between. I’m MUCH more like my mother: point A to B, fine, but smell the roses in between and meander a bit. Well, that leads to chaos and programming nightmares.

    2. I’m still not that far away. I’d love to meet you. Time somehow gets in the way. I hope you and Mr. Rainshine are feeling better and that spring brings good things to you!

    1. 🙂 Thank you, Philip. If I take a break it is usually because I need to regroup and think about things that have little to do with the blog. I fully enjoy everyone here.

          1. ha! We think alike. I thought I had posted a link to the Billy Goats Gruff. It was one of my very favorite childhood stories.

    2. Regardless of the previous posts, I don’t think it’s appropriate to call a fellow blogger and poster a “troll” nor do I think it falls in line with TK’s blog guidelines, unless we’re picking and choosing when to invoke the rules?

        1. Not the point. There’s people on here who fit the definition of many other terms but I don’t call them that. And for the record, I don’t consider him a troll but i get why the majority do.

          1. I agree with you. I do not believe it is right to call anyone on this blog a troll. People have different opinions. All we do is lower ourselves to put down others. That’s how problems develop. If someone says something bad – ignore. If the administor feels it’s right to remove the person, fine. I am not saying to remove anyone. If we start mocking then we are all immature.

            1. I would normally agree, rainshine. However, it seemed that Philip was reacting to my being called annoying and a busy body and to the comment that people do not post here because of me. By definition….that is what an Internet troll does.

I’m not debating whether I am annoying and a busy body as I am outspoken and can be perceived as such. I am mature enough to recognize my faults. I would also suspect some do not post here because of me. However, I also know the opposite to be true. The difference is that, as I stated previously, that if I thought for a moment that I were hurting TK’s blog, I’d back away immediately. The others would not.

              1. And I’ll post this from Wikipedia…Sorry Ace but in this case the shoe fits.

In Internet slang, a troll is a person who sows discord on the Internet by starting quarrels or upsetting people, by posting inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community with … Wikipedia

                1. I don’t think anyone of us get your point Ace…but then again sometimes out here on the land we call the internet it’s not always clear. I’ll leave it at that. Thanks.

                2. My point is actually pretty simple Keith et al. I don’t care what the definition of anything is. There are folks on this blog that the shoe fits when it comes to certain internet terms but it wouldn’t be acceptable to call them those things. This shouldn’t be any different regardless of the commentary that provoked it (it we’re all playing by the same rules of the blog). That’s all I have to say. I hope u understand

                3. Seriously, Ace. It bothers you that someone was called a troll but not that the same person called me annoying and a busy body. Please try a bit harder and even better let it go

                4. Soooo…you’ve stated that we all could fit into certain internet terms or types…pray tell do go on. Have the courage of your courage of your covictions and let us know who, what, when or where. Yes I guess we are all “guilty” of something.

Last night someone attacked someone outright (after ramping it up) then he just sat back and watched the fireworks. That by definition is an internet troll. Not calling someone out for it or enforcing a set of rules is just a recipe for it to happen again. I’ve run several radio lists and it happens and their are people on those lists and others that could be called internet trolls, instigators, agent provacteurs, whatever. It’s good that you see fit to call out the end product but the not the starting product.

              2. Also let’s end this now on the blog…take it off list (on to FB if you like) or just end it. We are never going to see eye to eye on this and I think we both have better things to do than to take up more bandwidth than we already have (and have made someone else…an instigator…have the last laugh).

  11. Boston Harbor is enjoying a rebirth of its kelp forests, shellfish populations and way better water quality, this so called barrier would not work, I for one think we need to invest in natural barriers. This barrier would effect all of the ecosystems found in Boston Harbor. Effect the harbor etc. I understand the need to protect Boston, but we need to make sure we do not make it worst. https://www.umb.edu/news/detail/umass_boston_report_boston_harbor_barrier_costs_would_outweigh_benefits

  12. If I recall correctly, the GFS did a pretty good job picking up that Alberto was going to develop and I mention that because it’s hinting at something again in the Gulf long range.

  13. Indiana satellite/radar is a sight to see this afternoon. Alberto, looking more impressive than it has over its entire life span. It has made the transition to a tropical cyclone (a tropical depression) from a sub-tropical one. Deep/well organized central core convection. Will definitely be some post-event research on how this storm has maintained itself so well over land.

  14. I would like to make a motion that we return to discussion of weather. We have yet another lovely day on our doorstep…literally. And some really interesting developments with Alberto….although not good for the areas he is passing over.

WxWatcher, I, along with others of course, will be more than interested in the post-event research and discussion.

    1. As long as Alberto does not make a visit to Bridgton, Maine this weekend to ruin a family weekend away, we can talk about it all we want. 🙂

      1. Oh ewwww…hairdryers are at the ready.

I love that area. I spent a good portion of my youth in Fryeburg and the biggest thrill was when I got to go out with the older girls after skiing all day and they headed to Bridgton Academy. I was too young to do more than sit and admire the stars, but I am convinced I have never seen as many stars in a sky than you find there.

Have a GREAT trip, Sue. You sure deserve it with all you do.

  15. The 12z Euro today was a little wild. Shows 3-7+” of rain over much of the area the next 10 days. There’s clearly still some uncertainty in the forecast going through the first 10-14 days of June. Last night it looked more promising, today not so much. I think the message remains unsettled weather overall, but low confidence on individual days.

    1. Thanks WX. I am interested that even well established lawns in my neighborhood are already kicking up dust/dirt when mowed. Doesn’t take long for them to dry.

  16. Dragonflies appeared for the first time about a week ago. Now I can honestly say I’ve never seen so many patrolling the yard. I think the little may bugs or no seeums keep them busy.

Matt I forgot to say that I love seeing Bats. Just not buzzing my head 😉 I’d have bat houses but it doesn’t seem we need them.

  17. To the people (using the made up names) that attempted to stir the pot by only joining the conversation in the name of going after someone and not commenting about the subject of this blog at all, you can give it up.

    1) I’m not stupid.
    2) Every approved message posted on this blog cost me $. I buy the “bandwidth”, but having this as real site and not a copied shell leaves me many options going forward. So far I have been able to run this site without ads or making it a subscription service. Frankly I don’t think one free forecast per day is enough to ask for people to subscribe. That may become an option for an expanded version of WHW in the future.
    3) Reminder: I’m not stupid.
    4) At this point I am going to put a stop to the talk related to whether or not someone is a troll. We try to put solid definitions on things but in reality it’s really just a matter of opinion. This person has not been kicked off the blog and is still welcome to post here to discuss weather. I have admittedly not been able to moderate as much as I should lately as I have been helping someone move and it has been a very time-consuming process balanced with other somewhat major events going on right now. This blog is not my full time job. It’s a side thing. I don’t get paid for it. I put the time into it because I enjoy doing it. Nobody is being forced to read or comment here. I would like to think everybody is mature enough to understand all of this and refrain in the future from communicating with someone you simply cannot get along with. Note that this particular statement is NOT absolving anybody that broke the guidelines. But I’m also not in the position right now to play the part of a school teacher that needs to send certain people to the corner.

I think it’s time to move on from this. I have dealt with this here now on numerous occasions and I really think, from adults, I should be able to expect this was the last time.

The decisions going forward are not up for debate any longer and will be made by me, unless otherwise noted.

Back to weather now. Good evening all. 🙂

And now it’s time to make what I believe is the final trip related to that move, and that’s filling my car twice with stuff to donate. Fun times.

    1. Very well said and I absolutely agree.

All families have their moments. What we….or at least I…learned is that as with the best of families…..and for the most part, we have each other backs. We then move on and hopefully learn from it.

Above all I truly believe that we all stand behind you and greatly appreciate all that you do.

      Thank you is hardly enough.

  18. Been great weather this week so far, went hiking today at Wachusett, Its a great warm up MTN to hike and bike… If the jobs I have applied to do not come to be, my plan is to be able to go hiking and MTN biking a bunch later this summer and Fall. Today was a good day. I also do not see much in the way of bad weather within the next week. could be a few showers on Friday but other than that it looks good. Especially since I am doing yard work this weekend, let it be cool but dry. 🙂

  19. Hello whw friends! Its a lovely evening tonight. Me and a couple of friends are hiking the horn pond. Beautiful view of boston, tk i bet you been there before since it’s in woburn.

In an off note, does anyone know where i can fins archives of severe weather reports ( wind hail, tornado) going back as early as possible? I tried nws site but no luck. Only shows past events of snow storms but not severe weather.
If anyone knows i will highly appreciate it, thanks!
