Sunday Forecast

8:10AM

DAYS 1-5 (OCTOBER 28-NOVEMBER 1)
As the days of October dwindle we have entered a transitional pattern, marked by a larger storm system which arrived yesterday and departs today. The storm brought wind and rain, with most of its snow confined to the mountains of northern New England. There were scattered power outages mainly due to fallen aged tree limbs, weighted by saturation and lingering foliage and pushed by some moderate wind gusts. We’re now in-between 2 storm systems, the larger one yesterday and a smaller follow-up that will bring additional wet weather to the region Monday. Today starts damp but not with falling rain, just lingering low level moisture with a low overcast, some fog, and patchy drizzle. It may dry out enough for a few breaks of sun this afternoon but clouds will dominate, although it will turn milder than yesterday was. Beyond Monday’s wet weather, drier conditions return for the final 2 days of October, along with milder air as the large scale pattern places a trough of low pressure in the middle of the US and a ridge of high pressure along the East Coast, reminiscent of the pattern we saw so often during the weeks leading up to the recent chilly spell. In fact, by the time we flip the calendar to November on Thursday, it will be quite mild. Forecast details…
TODAY: This morning overcast with areas of fog and drizzle. This afternoon mostly cloudy with possible breaks of sun. Highs 53-60. Wind light variable this morning, SW 5-15 MPH with a few higher gusts this afternoon.
TONIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Areas of rain arrive overnight. Lows 40-47. Wind SW to S up to 10 MPH.
MONDAY: Cloudy with periods of rain through mid afternoon. Slight chance of a thunderstorm. Partial clearing west to east late in the day. Highs 48-55. Wind S to SE 5-15 MPH morning, SW to W 5-15 MPH with higher gusts afternoon.
MONDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy. Lows 35-42. Wind W 10-20 MPH and gusty evening, diminishing overnight.
TUESDAY: Sun and passing clouds. Highs 48-55. Wind NW 5-15 MPH.
WEDNESDAY: Partly sunny. Lows in the 30s. Highs from the upper 50s to lower 60s.
THURSDAY: Partly cloudy. Lows in the 40s. Highs from the upper 60s to lower 70s.

DAYS 6-10 (NOVEMBER 2-6)
Pattern during this period as likely to be trough Midwest and ridge just off East Coast. This is a mild pattern for this area with above normal temperatures. Warmest days likely November 2 and 6. Cold front should bring rain showers by later November 2 to early November 3. Disturbance may bring rain early November 4. Mainly dry otherwise.

DAYS 11-15 (NOVEMBER 7-11)
Same general pattern but with less amplitude, allowing another front to bring wet weather early period, a dry and cooler mid period, and moderating temperatures late in the period with mainly dry weather.

  1. Good morning and thank you TK.

I said I wasn’t impressed yesterday, but I guess I was not patient enough ( patience is a virtue I do not possess). It turned out to be a pretty decent Nor’easter after all.

We ended up with 1.80 inches here at ye ole homestead in JP.

The Wedding we attended yesterday was an all out bash at the Plaza ballroom
of the Seaport Hotel on Seaport Boulevard in Boston. The wind right on the
water was damn impressive I must say. We were there during the peak wind
period. I saw sustained winds of 47 mph at Logan with higher gusts. And the ride
over to Seaport was something else. We could feel the car moving from the wind.
And the rain! Holy crap was it raining.

Does anyone have the highest winds from Yesterday?

And what about those Sox. Great come back win. Totally awesome!!!!

Not for nothing and I know they won last night, but to me eyes, the home plate
umpiring for both nights has been nothing short of ATROCIOUS!!!!!
So many missed balls and strikes and some very blatantly so. I lost count, there were so many. TONS of them!!!! It can really screw up the hitter. Just not fair at all.
There is my one gripe so far in this series.

Anyhow, GO SOX tonight! Let’s wrap it up out in LA and stick to those whining cry babies!!!!!

    1. Hmm Best I could find for Boston was wind gust to 45 mph, unless there
was a higher one between observations.

Seemed high than that to me. Oh well.

    2. I saw 43 on one of the wunder stations at York Maine last night so figured it was higher than that during the day. Our highest was 21.

      We had 1.05 for rain.

Our trees are finally mostly turned to a lovely dark brown. Even the little one on our front lawn is dull. It has been a lovely bright orange the past two years. The trees that line the street throughout the neighborhood are all green but they seem to be well into November.

    3. Dave I agree there were too many missed calls on pitches– but also the box the TV superimposes as a strike zone is not really accurate. It would be better if the box was not there.
Kimbrel got squeezed. The night Sale pitched he got squeezed as well.

I stayed up for the whole game for the first time!

        1. I have someone who’s in the dugout often at home games and is close to the team. The box is a joke. Its there for network purposes. They think it helps the audience. The zone is too complex and multi dimensional for that thing to really work. Its just a guide. It is so clear the national broadcast is dumbed down for the very casual fan. I have turn Joe Buck down to barely audible in order to watch!

  2. Thanks, TK.
    Good morning, everyone!

Powerful winds this day (Sunday, not October 28) a year ago that postponed classes and knocked out power in Middleborough as well as many other towns.
Wasn’t “Snowtober” also the last Sunday of October of 2011?

Get the Duck Boats gassed and ready!!!!
    Go Sox!

      1. I remember having to go to work that Sunday morning in that 1-inch icy slop having worked in the rain/snow mix Saturday evening. YUCK!

Hope we never have another snowtober or whatever it was called. Not to mention the sad snow totals that winter.

        9.3” @ Logan

      2. I know I’m repeating ….. I recall being awakened early Sunday with the brilliant flashes from arcing and also the loud booms they make. Snow started late Saturday afternoon in Hopkinton where I was

  3. Rain total correction. I thought I had lost connection problem fixed for acurite….it’s better but not 100 percent

    1.48 for Sutton

    1. Thanks Longshot. I am puzzled though as to why Logan only recorded 1.17 while the other Boston sections considerably more. The rainfall yesterday was completely widespread, not scattered or anything like that. One has to wonder if Logan’s rain gauge is off like their thermometer (in the other direction).

      1. Not sure about other coastal locations but daughter said there was not much rain yesterday afternoon other than light drizzle the time they were in Scituate. Wonder if there was a lull

  4. I hope the Red Sox can put it away early and keep scoring, if not to give Price some breathing room. They need to stop pussyfooting around and not wait until they get behind to make their move on offense.

Also, E Rod not hustling to second base last night was absolutely DEPLORABLE!!! I have seen better with T-Ballers 5-6 years old running as fast as their young legs can carry them. I also didn’t appreciate his cavelier look in the dugout afterwards.

    1. Saw a stat last night—was E-Rods first time on base as a professional—including majors, minors, Arizona Fall League and Venezuelan Winter League.

        1. He is a child. Did not even try to bunt. Did not want to cover first against the Astros. Throws his glove down when he gives up a homer. The DH rule has spawned some pitchers who do not care to learn the game or to compete as a real player. Contrast Porcello or Rich Hill of Dodgers.

  5. Thanks TK !

The Monday system, is that kind of similar setup to earlier this week with the tornadoes ?

Potent disturbance, SE winds to the north of the small scale warm front, some instability. Is the shear projected to be there ????

    1. Similar, but this time the support will likely be offshore and it won’t be as cold aloft relative to at the surface. I added a slight risk of thunder to the forecast but I’m not expecting any spinnies.

  6. One of the most impressive wins I’ve seen in any World Series. No doubt this team is relentless, especially the players who you don’t necessarily expect it from (last night it was Moreland and Pearce, with Holt and Devers playing key roles). It appears Chris Sale stirred them all up with a pep talk. I respect that.

It would be nice to see Betts and Martinez “do damage.” Hard against Kershaw, but certainly possible.

JP Dave, the umpiring has been bad throughout the post-season. Inconsistent. I agree with you. Hitters don’t know what to expect, and I feel like pitchers have often been squeezed. Can someone remind umpires that the black part of home plate is considered part of the strike zone. Tonight that’ll be crucial for both Price and Kershaw.

Philip, Eduardo Rodriguez is a strange player. He has talent, but I’ve always felt he underachieves and doesn’t put in a 100% effort. His jog to second base was embarrassing, as was his not covering first in the ALCS. Cora will tell him this in private. Rodriguez has not been a favorite of Cora’s, but Cora knows he can pitch.

I admire the way Joe Kelly has book-ended this season. What happened between late May and September wasn’t great, but he was terrific early in the season and has been dominant in the post-season.

    1. Thanks Joshua. I say get rid of E-Rod during the off-season. We don’t need a player who doesn’t give 100%. Seems like a very selfish individual to say the least. Too bad.

      1. If they can bench yaz for not giving his all, they can get rid of a person who is a prima Donna from the start

  7. Thank you, TK.

At Nostalgia in Providence I bought an old Fee and Stemwedel barometer (also has a thermometer and relative humidity gauge). I’m a big fan of vintage American-made products from the 40s and 50s, including cameras, radios, and barometers. I now have three working vintage American-made barometers. My favorite is the glass barometer (filled with water – I add food coloring so you can see the level).

  8. when I watch the red sox I remember my Grandpa who passed away the year before the Red sox won in 2004. He was a massive Red Sox fan, waiting for that win. We took out some red port made from Portugal that Game 4 of the world series. For those that are Portuguese knows exactly where I am getting at with the red port. We have a thing of Port ready for this game 🙂

    1. I don’t know the tradition, but I’m betting your Grandpa was there in spirit.

I think many have memories of those they wished had seen that series win. That was when baseball was baseball and it makes me sad so many who were both players and true fans were not able to see that win in person

I felt my mom watching. And I felt Ted. Many of the games I couldn’t stay awake to watch. Mac, who did, asked how I could possibly sleep. It was because I knew they’d win. It was a feeling I’ve only had one other time….when the Pats won the super bowl in the last minute right after Mac passed away.

  9. AccuWeather Trivia Quiz

Yesterday some areas of No. Mass saw their first measurable snow of the year. What’s the latest first measurable snow of the season (I think mean in Mass).

    A. December 29th
    B. January 1st
    C. January 6th
    D. January 13th

Answer later today. (I didn’t like the way the question was worded and I am not sure I agree with the answer.)

  10. 12Z 3KM NAM for tomorrow.

From NWS, like TK, not expecting any “spinnies”.

    Monday morning…

Shortwave and cold pool move overhead during the morning. Strong
jet dynamics and lift, under the left-exit region of the
supporting upper jet. Good instability with the cold core
reaching -28C. Expect showers and scattered/widely-scattered
    tstms during the morning.

  11. Answer to AccuWeather Trivia Quiz

Yesterday some areas of No. Mass saw their first measurable snow of the year. What’s the latest first measurable snow of the season (I think mean in Mass).

    A. December 29th
    B. January 1st
    C. January 6th
    D. January 13th

    The correct answer is D.

              1. I’m assuming you knew my choice of the 11th had absolutely nothing to do with meteorology. But maybe I should not assume. You know what Felix said

                1. The morning of the 11th we have a big Veterans Day parade and special 100th anniversary of the end of WWI ceremony so I’d like that day to be bright and crisp. 🙂

                2. That would mess things up. I can see why the Mac factor may go for the 10th then. The 11th is Macs angel day.

I’m hoping every church and every person will ring bells loudly at 11:00 since the end of the war was the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month

  12. Watch the Nov 7th to 13 time frame, I just have a feeling something sneaky might work in our area during that period.
