Sunday Forecast

7:18AM

DAYS 1-5 (MARCH 31-APRIL 4)
We get to this final day of March with no big surprises or big changes to the forecast. We’re in the warm sector to start the day, and as mentioned many times the southerly air flow is a cooler air flow for places closer to and along the South Coast, or any south-facing shores, as the air passes over much cooler water before arriving there. We will end today with the arrival of a colder air mass from the west, and the band of rain showers along the boundary will push west to east across the region this afternoon, exiting early this evening. For the start of April, we’ll be back into much cooler air and will have to watch for an offshore storm to be close enough to possibly bring a period of precipitation Tuesday night and early Wednesday. This system should be a fairly quick mover, and if it does impact the region, it will be very short-lived. A weak area of high pressure will move in with fair weather at midweek, but an upper disturbance may kick off some cloudiness at times especially Thursday.
Forecast details…
TODAY: Variably cloudy. Rain showers crossing the region west to east during the afternoon. Highs 48-55 South Coast, 56-63 most other areas but 64-71 possible some interior areas. Wind SW 10-20 MPH shifting to W late in the day.
TONIGHT: Mostly cloudy with rain showers possible eastern areas early, then clearing. Lows 30-37. Wind NW 10-20 MPH, higher gusts.
MONDAY: Partly sunny. Highs 38-45. Wind NW 15-25 MPH.
MONDAY NIGHT: Clear. Lows 28-35. Wind N 5-15 MPH.
TUESDAY: Clouding up. Highs 40-47. Wind light N to E.
TUESDAY NIGHT: Cloudy. Rain/mix/snow possible favoring southern and eastern areas. Lows 30-37. Wind N 10-20 MPH and gusty.
WEDNESDAY: Cloudy with a chance of rain favoring Cape Cod early, then clearing. Highs 43-50. Wind NW 10-20 MPH and gusty.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Clear. Lows 28-35. Wind NW 10-20 MPH and gusty.
THURSDAY: Sun then clouds. Highs 45-52. Wind NW 10-20 MPH.

DAYS 6-10 (APRIL 5-9)
Current expected timing of systems would bring low pressure from the Ohio Valley to New England April 5-6 with a period of wet weather likely late April 5 to early April 6 in southern New England. Fair with a brief warm-up April 7, then high pressure from eastern Canada bringing cooler weather April 8 before it quickly warms again at the end of the period with mostly fair weather.

DAYS 11-15 (APRIL 10-14)
Passing frontal systems about April 10 and 12 or 13 with minor bouts of unsettled weather otherwise mainly dry with typical up and down temperatures heading toward the middle of the month.

  1. Thanks TK.

Barry’s voice still isn’t quite back to normal. He has wet snowflakes for Friday with a high of only 41.

  2. I watched a very interesting movie about a Tsunami in the Norwegian fjords.
It was a Norwegian film dubbed (not very well) in English entitled “The Wave”.

I had never heard of tsunamis there, but they have occurred in the past it remains a current and very real threat.

    Here is some info:

    1. The situation in La Palma has been hotly debated at times. There are claims and counter-claims. I am not sure who to believe.

        1. Had tics to see them along with Bryan Adams, but
Couldn’t make it and had to take a pass. Bet I missed
          a great show!

  3. Just skied Attitash. It was weird cause the wind at the top was warm, like a warm breeze at the beach. The valley wind was much cooler.

  4. Both GFs models and the CMC are near misses with the Wednesday system. Wonder
    what the NAMs are seeing?????

      1. No, it’s just variable. There should be a solid moderate shower going right through the city in the 3PM hour.

    1. That’s really the night of 4-2 to the early part of 4-3. Euro is a tad slow but catching up.

  5. My son and I went hiking at Bear Mtn (NW corner of CT) yesterday and it was beautiful, partial sun and temps in the mid 60s with great views. I was surprised though to see how much snow and ice remained on a good portion of the trail. In fact, the trail up the north face of the mountain was a complete ice fall. Nothing like hiking in shorts with micro spikes on.

Here’s a couple shots of the trail up the north face (this is actually a portion of the Appalachian Trail). Believe it or not I passed a few people trying to come down this mess in sneakers!

And a shot of us at the summit. It was windy up there!

      1. No kidding, but I actually put the jersey on right after we got back to the car because we drive to NY to the islanders/Sabre’s game after! Great game as they won 5-1 and clinched a playoff berth 🙂

        1. Awesome! I’d root for the Isles over the Sabres any day. Islanders have been my 2nd favorite team for a long long time.

          1. I will likewise be rooting hard for the Bruins to take down the Maple Leafs and that traitor Taveras in the first round 🙂

            1. Sounds good! The B’s better not play the way they played this weekend or it will be a quick playoffs…

  6. A look back:

Easter Sunday was the last Sunday in March in:
    1970: 6.3″ of snow (March 29)
    1997: 63 degrees (March 30)

    On March 31:
1997: 8.3″ (with more to come!!)
2010: 16.83″ total of rain for the month of March.

    1. Thank you for the trip down memory lane. As you know, I do enjoy that.

I remember 1970. We’d had Easter dinner at a restaurant long gone restaurant in fresh pond Cambridge…Fantasia. It was barely flurrying when we went in. We had no way of seeing what was happening outside so were amazed when we headed home.

  7. JPD: I want to thank you for sharing that great audio link of “Sympathy” by the Stones from “Get Yer…” Since listening to that gem, I have been listening to rare, live Rolling Stones videos, albums and songs…
I have been enjoying Nicky Hopkins on piano (especially on “Sympathy”) and Billy Preston on the organ. One interesting thing I found out about the lyrics on “Sympathy for the Devil,” it was written before the RFK assassination and recorded right after June 6, 1968. The original lyric was “Who killed Kennedy” and then changed to “Who killed the Kennedys” after RFK was killed in Los Angeles.

Ironically, after listening to the Stones for the last week, we find out that the Stones’ 2019 tour has been postponed because of Mick’s undisclosed illness.

So I guess the following is the only live Stones for awhile.
Thanks, JPD, for sharing. Here’s are my gifts right back attacha:
