Saturday Forecast

10:04AM

DAYS 1-5 (APRIL 20-24)
Everything going as expected as we remain in a warm and rather humid air mass. Boston set a record high minimum temperature on Friday with a 63, beating the old record of 60. This is the type of weather that makes the grass green up quickly and the vegetation emerge. Of course, for many it means worsening allergies too. Another down side to the pattern is with some rain combined with melting mountain snow, the river flood threat will be higher during the coming days. A plus to all of this is the fire danger, which has been rather high, will drop off. So there is a mix of positives and negatives, which one would expect. The axis of most numerous rain showers which has been the biggest headache in the forecast recently is behaving about as expected, but has rippled around a little overnight and into the morning, but will be mainly to the west for several hours before heading back to the east again, and it should be mainly offshore, except possibly Cape Cod, for improving weather during Sunday, which is Easter for those who celebrate (except Eastern Orthodox which is next week). I’ve been eyeing the good possibility of the trailing upper level low pressure from this system coming across the region Monday, “Earth Day”, with unsettled weather, and that will be the case. Think of it as an Earth Day watering for the continued emergence of green, if you will. And in true April fashion, yet another disturbance and front will be in the area to keep the unsettled pattern going into midweek.

DAYS 6-10 (APRIL 25-29)
Should be a break in the wet weather early in the period, with mild conditions, before it returns sometime during the April 27-28 weekend, then departs at the end of the period when a shot of much cooler air is possible. Not the highest confidence on this forecast right now.

DAYS 11-15 (APRIL 30-MAY 4)
I have no idea. Ok, kidding, kind of. I’m not really too keen on any medium range guidance right now so I’ll venture this one on my own and call for fair weather to end April, and unsettled and cooler weather to start May.

  1. If you include Easter Monday as part of a 4-day holiday weekend, it would certainly rank #1 worst holiday weekend of the year so far. Warm but wet can still be frustrating.

    1. A lot of the time has been rain-free. Friday was partly sunny for a good part of the day. Tomorrow will be partly sunny and rain free for a good part of the day. How does that even come close to bad? Especially with temperatures 10-20 above normal!

  2. According to Dave Epstein, we could establish a new record dewpoint temp for the month of April today. I believe it is 67 degrees.

  3. Thank you TK.
My Accurite sensor is reading 69 with a DP of 65.

0.18 inch of rain in ye ole bucket.

  4. Thank you, TK

My acu-rite is mimicking Dave’s with the exact same readings. I just dusted off the ceiling fan and it feels good

  5. Ironically when we look back at the 4 day period Friday-Monday, it’s actually pretty decent. Not a lot of rain hours. Temps 10-20 above normal. Sure, not totally sunny, but partial sun Friday and again tomorrow for some areas. No wash-outs. For an unsettled stretch of weather in April, which is often involving cold northeast winds and soaking drizzle, this is not bad.

    1. I’m still going to hold my breath for early tomorrow morning and during Monday as I have early commutes to work. I have been hearing downpours during those times. I take the T and a few blocks of walking.

    2. Yesterday was lovely. Today has been hmmmmm. The sun tried hard to poke out a bit ago. Grands had a blast playing out in a particularly heavy rain shower. Sadly, The Easter egg hunt in town was cancelled. I’m hoping our hunt will happen tomorrow.

  6. Sure is quiet around here lately

Grandkids have gone out to play three times and all three have been caught in a downpour and absolutely loved it. Perfect day
