Sunday Forecast

8:34AM

DAYS 1-5 (JUNE 9-13)
High pressure remains in control today allowing the region to complete the first Saturday/Sunday combination with no rain in the region at all since March 16-17. High pressure gives way to an approaching warm front Monday, which will cross the region at night, followed quickly by a cold front, keeping the bout of unsettled weather confined to a relatively short time, before high pressure and drier weather returns for Wednesday. But things are on the move and the next low pressure area will arrive during Thursday with another threat of wet weather.
Forecast details…
TODAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 77-84, cooler in some coastal areas especially Cape Cod. Wind variable to W 5-15 MPH.
TONIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows 55-62. Wind W up to 10 MPH.
MONDAY: Increasing clouds. Highs 75-82, coolest coast. Wind light variable to SE.
MONDAY NIGHT: Cloudy. Rain arriving. More humid. Lows 58-65. Wind light SE.
TUESDAY: Mostly cloudy. Showers and thunderstorms likely, especially morning and midday. Humid. Highs 72-79. Wind S 10-20 MPH.
TUESDAY NIGHT: Clearing. Lows 54-61. Wind W 5-15 MPH.
WEDNESDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 75-82. Wind variable 5-15 MPH.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Increasing clouds. Lows 55-62. Wind light variable.
THURSDAY: Cloudy. Chance of rain. Highs 62-69 but may cool back to upper 50s coast. Wind NE 10-20 MPH.

DAYS 6-10 (JUNE 14-18)
Drier weather tries to return on a west wind behind departing low pressure June 14 but some colder air aloft may trigger showers/t-storms.
The June 15-17 period will feature high pressure both north and south of the region with a boundary between. Where this boundary sets up will determine the weather here. Leaning toward the warmer side of it now but along with a couple of shower/t-storm opportunities. Showers/thunderstorms more likely at the end of the period with high pressure from the north pushing the boundary further to the south.

DAYS 11-15 (JUNE 19-23)
A generally zonal (west to east) jet stream pattern with mean ridge of high pressure centered west of New England. This pattern sends a few chances of showers/thunderstorms this way but also brings fair and seasonably warm weather in between.

  1. Thanks TK. What an absolutely stellar stretch of weather we have had!

Next couple weeks look a little more “June standard”, with some showery days but also some more good ones. The one thing that looks to stay at bay for quite awhile longer is excessive heat. While there will be a couple of muggy days over the next week or two, there’s no true heat to pair with it. -NAO/+PNA should continue to table that threat. Ironically, it’s still a pattern more favorable for winter theatrics than deep summer heat, as it has been for awhile. Just imagine the coming evolution Thursday-Friday with a little more wintertime baroclinicity. The trough coming into the Great Lakes mid-late week is highly anomalous in its intensity.

      1. That is good news no excessive heat at least in the foreseeable future. ๐Ÿ™‚ And yes, I was thinking a wintry-type set up for Thursday as well, obviously it is not the winter season, of course. Not looking forward to a cool to chilly rain this time of year though as I have a medical appointment that day.

  2. Good morning all. I love WxWatchers word stellar. It says it all

Isnโ€™t it funny how quickly things dry out and lawns begin to brown and smaller water areas start to shrink. Sure does speak to the need for the rain we have had. Although, I did a reread when TK said it is the first rainfree weekend in nearly three months.

    1. “Stellar” is a favorite of mine as well. ๐Ÿ™‚

And when we have a dry stretch, it doesn’t take long at all, especially in high sun, to dry out the top soil, no matter how long a wet-stretch we had! Take it from an ag met. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  3. TK, perhaps I missed it, have you come up with a predicted #90F days for Logan this summer?

I get the idea Barry B may be about to give his as a twitter post he made a few hours ago details that he doesn’t think this summer will be as hot as last July through September.

    Thanks.

    1. I never have but I was thinking around a dozen or 13. But a couple of those 90 or 91 readings will probably actually be 89 unless they finally calibrate their thermometer correctly.

        1. I have always wondered what really is the difference between an 89 or a 90. Still feels hot! ๐Ÿ˜‰

          1. Me thinks that the difference is 1 degree.
89 can feel comfortable if dry and miserable if humid.

      1. The snow always melts as summer arrives in the Arctic. ๐Ÿ˜‰ It’s seasonal.

    1. Thank you Tom. Very worrisome. PG&E shut off power this am to the Sierra foothills worried about fire danger.

  4. TK – What are your thoughts on the Bruins tonight? Youโ€™ve been very quiet lately on that subject, which worries me even more than I already am. ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. I’ve been confident in the team all along. That never changes. There have been times when they have just been outplayed. There have been other unfortunate circumstances not only in this series but in many playoff series (not all involving the Bruins) that have unfortunately played a role as well.

But all that is behind them. All they need to do now is win 2 games in a row. They did that plenty of times this season. They can do it again. Time will tell if they actually accomplish it. Step 1 is tonight.

          1. That doesn’t guarantee a thing, but it would be nice to start strong and take the crowd out of the game.

  5. Did anyone see Zach Green’s debut as the ch 4 weekend met? He gave a great presentation somewhat in the Eric style.
I think he may be a keeper.

      1. I bet itโ€™s Jacob since Sarah was on yesterday morning in place of Barry. I havenโ€™t seen the new guy yet.

        1. probably correct.
Jacob had to come all the way from Springfield. Jacob was good. I liked him.

    1. We have seen him on the Providence NBC channel down here. He will fit right in at BZ with the current team!

  6. More of the Bruins theme here- my brother who played collegiate hockey back in 79 was drafted by the blues in 79 and then traded to the Kings . He never played though in the nhl . He passed away early in 2004 . My bet is the Bruins win it all . He would never let the blues win I truly believe. And if it doesn’t come to pass I will still believe spirits of loved ones live on . Bruins win the cup

    1. Thank you for sharing your story. It brought tears and a smile that your brother is indeed skating on the shoulders of the bruins.

I am so sorry for your loss.

  7. Today was great. Too bad we can’t have this everyday during the summer.
This day in weather history back in 1953 F4 Tornado struck Worcester.

  8. 2011 Boston was down 3-2 and won game six home and won game seven on the road to win the Cup. I don’t have a dog in the fight here so I am just hoping for a great game.

  9. Vicki the game is going on right now on NBC. Bruins are up 1-0 scoring on a 5 on 3 Power Play.

  10. Z.G. on ch 4 gets a big thumbs up from me. I like his style & straightforward delivery.

      1. Opposite for me. I like to think the best from the get go. Heck if I could do that for …..

Oh well, never mind. I am anxious to see ZG

      2. This guy came out of the gate here just the way I like to see it done. I know he has experience and he’s using it well.

  11. Bruins 1-0, end of 1st period. Now letโ€™s see if the pattern continues. ๐Ÿ™‚

  12. So with no hockey knowledge and only watching for 30 min why am I seeing penalties on bruins against this dirty team

Did I just hear a collective sigh

    1. Well, you’re asking what I’m asking. I’m surprised how many penalties the Bruins have gotten. I would have expected it to be the opposite given the truly horrible non-call the other night. I would not, however, call the Blues a dirty team. They play a style of hockey the big bad Bruins of yesteryear used to. It’s clearly different now, as the Bruins are superior to the Blues on technique (skating, passing, stick-handling, speed). If they had a technical skills competition it would definitely go to the Bruins. But, the Bruins are not as opportunistic, and do not play as physical a game.

  13. There is so much freaking pollen on everything. I am legitimately out of commission because of it. Itโ€™s the worst. Go bruins.

    1. What’s putting you out of commission is the stuff we can’t see. The visible stuff doesn’t do much. It’s too big to get into our respiratory system.

    2. Oddly I have rarely had problems with allergens…Iโ€™m about to see doctor number 3 for some odd reactions. TK was right when he said first measurable pollen of the season

  14. Binnington would love to have that one back. OUCH!

Just what the Bruins needed. Now they need to keep pouring it on. NO LET UP.

  15. The Bruins had better keep the game 6 mentality going into game 7 and score FIRST and OFTEN. Remember game 3 to game 4 transition as the Blues can still be dangerous.

    1. I agree. They definitely have emotion on their side going into game 7 though. I hope they can capitalize on that. I think they have finally dented Binnington’s confidence. The games the Blues have won have been close and not without controversy. Two of the Bruins wins were basically blow-outs. If we stay focused, we’ll outscore this team and win the cup right on our own ice!
