Tuesday Forecast

7:20AM

DAYS 1-5 (JUNE 11-15)
We’re in the midst of our warm front / cold front combo as I write this shortly before posting it. That means it’s muggy, mild, and showery, and this will go on for a good portion of the morning before the cold front sweeps it all east and offshore this afternoon, resulting in a vastly different looking and feeling ending to the day. That incoming dry air will be courtesy high pressure which will settle across New England for a one-day visit Wednesday – the pick of the work week. But as previously mentioned, another low pressure area will be on its heels and will bring a slug of wet weather back into southern New England during Thursday, a cooler day with a stronger easterly wind ahead of the low. As a lingering trough swings through, there is the opportunity for a passing shower Friday but otherwise we’ll see another drying-out process with a westerly air flow taking over, and this will set up nice weather to start the weekend.
Forecast details…
TODAY: Mainly cloudy with numerous showers and scattered thunderstorms early to mid morning tapering to scattered showers late morning. Becoming mostly sunny afternoon. Highs 76-81 except 68-75 immediate South Coast. Wind S shifting to W 10-20 MPH with higher gusts.
TONIGHT: Clear. Lows 50-57. Wind W 5-15 MPH, a few higher gusts evening.
WEDNESDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 73-80. Wind W 5-15 MPH.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Clouding over. Lows 55-62. Wind light S.
THURSDAY: Overcast. Periods of rain. Areas of fog. Highs 62-69, may cool back to upper 50s coast. Wind E 10-20 MPH.
THURSDAY NIGHT: Cloudy. Rain tapering off to areas of drizzle and lingering showers. Patchy fog. Lows 55-62. Wind variable 5-15 MPH.
FRIDAY: Partly sunny. Slight risk of a passing shower. Highs 67-74. Wind W 10-20 MPH.
FRIDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows 48-53 interior valleys, 53-58 elsewhere. Wind light NW.
SATURDAY: Mostly sunny to partly cloudy. Highs 75-82. Wind W 5-15 MPH.

DAYS 6-10 (JUNE 16-20)
Going to lean toward the faster timing of a frontal boundary impacting the region with a little more cloudiness along with a shower and possible thunderstorm threat so this will be the case for the June 16-17 period with a drying trend then for June 18-19, before the next disturbance brings a shower threat to end the period. Temperatures will vary but will average near to slightly above normal with no major heat in sight at this time.

DAYS 11-15 (JUNE 21-25)
Zonal (west to east) pattern, but with a tendency for more ridging to start becoming established from the lower Mississippi Valley to Tennessee Valley will start to push the jet stream a little further north and allow the first opportunity or two for a “hot” day before this period is over.

  1. Thanks TK !

Nice to see lots of green pollen in the puddles this morning. Hope this helps anyone out there who is suffering with allergies.

  2. Good morning. Thank you TK

As I lay in bed listening….It seems as if it’s the first real rainy day we’ve had. The others were spot rain. I do enjoy truly rainy days. We have 1.20 as of about 7:30

    1. I saw Eddie in my front yard this morning as I approached the car. 🙂 🙂
I love rabbits. Don’t know why, but I do. I also love ducks, geese and swans.

      1. I miss having rabbits. We had so many in Framingham. I also enjoy them. And ducks and geese. I remember when swans were few and there was a waterway along Rt 16 in Sherborn where there were swans….back in the 1990s………and it was a thrill to drive and see them. Now they are everywhere and I absolutely love it. Daughter and I counted over 20 in one waterway out here last fall.

        1. We have ducks and geese and swans and herons all over here near the Newton/Waltham/Weston line. Also a couple of eagles near the Watch Factory building in Waltham and a number of Red-Tailed Hawks. Coyotes ran the rabbits out last year. Or I should say the coyote.

  3. Still no major heat for at lest the next 6-10 days I see. Also good news for teachers is that any heat will not arrive until after school ends. That doesn’t always happen. 🙂

    1. SMILEY FACE, SMILEY FACE…….

I am LOVING IT!!! Keep the HHH away all summer for all I care. 🙂 🙂 🙂

  4. Good morning and thank you TK.

Happy to see the damn pollen washed off my car. I washed it on Saturday
and by Sunday, it was totally covered in pollen again!!! GEEZ!@(*#*(!*(#&*(&&!*(

I wanted to go fishing this weekend, now we have stuff to do both days and I can’t go.
I think I will take either Friday or Monday off to take care of that. 🙂 🙂 Maybe?????
I am not one for taking days off from work. I just cashed in a crap load of vacation
and sick time (accumulated at my old full time rate!). Good thing, as we needed a new car. Our old one was 10 years old and literally falling apart. I generally beat the living shit out of vechicles!! Can’t help it. Just the way I roll. Trying desperately to be
more careful with this one as it may very well be the last vehicle we own. 🙂 🙂

    1. Saw a guy in waders casting in the middle of the Charles just west of Watertown Sq below the little falls there. First time I have seen that. Also they are fishing in their electric motor boats along Greenough Boulevard. I guess they stocked a lot of bass this spring….

      1. They don’t stock Bass as they are rather efficient at reproducing…
The Mass Fish and Game Dept determined long ago that Bass
        populations are self sustaining.

To my knowledge, they only stock trout in appropriate areas (Not Watertown).

  5. Thanks, TK, as always…

A patch of heavy rain just came through Middleborough about 20 minutes ago.
Boy, did it pour with very low clouds and visibility.

More on the way it seems from eastern Bristol County (1) and Narragansett Bay(2).

We now have yellow pollen paste!

  6. Thank you, TK.

My rain gauge is broken, so I don’t know exactly how much has fallen. But, it would appear that we’ve had quite a bit.

I’ve stuck a fork in the Red Sox. Actually, I pretty much did that after their 6-13 start. But, it’s now become obvious they don’t `have it.’ I’ll still watch an occasional game, because I like the sport. But, the Sox look destined for a mediocre season, with selling a distinct possibility. Actually, selling would be a good idea to load up the farm system.

      1. They probably are in trouble for the division and the 1st wild card, but are plenty in the running for the 2nd wild card.

Figure out the bullpen by year’s end and you have Sale for the wild card game and Price to open the division series on the road.

Certainly a much tougher road than last year, but plenty of opportunity to make the tournament.

  7. Thanks TK. Already a very nice weather turnaround here today, and that should spread to SNE.

Watching the Bruins this postseason has been a joy, whatever happens tomorrow night, though I’m certainly crossing my fingers for a win. Obviously I don’t get most of the games down here during the regular season but it’s been great to follow them the past month or so. They remind me of last year’s Celtics, before they went down the tube this year: likable and overachieving, winning games on hustle and discipline as opposed to elite talent or overwhelming force. I do believe they win tomorrow.

And as for the Sox… well, I don’t get to see many of their games either, but I agree with Joshua and Dave. Toast. Last year’s WS title is looking kinda flukey, though it doesn’t take away from what the 2018 team accomplished. It’s just a wonder that only a couple of small changes could drop them so far. They should sell hard, and reload.

    1. They probably should have blown up during the off-season and reloaded like the Patriots do after their SB wins. In hindsight Sale should have been the first on the list to go.

      1. I imagine Santa and his wife are enjoying the relative warmth. But, it must also be hard to sleep. Just imagine it always being light outside.

      2. Last June 25 I had a coffee called “Half Christmas”. I think I posted a picture of it on FB. 😉

        1. I play certain Christmas songs all year round; like Pretenders `2000 miles,’ and Lennon’s `Happy Christmas.’

          1. 2000 Miles is one of the best songs of all time, IMO. It reminds me of my dear departed brother. He used it on a Christmas collection he made when he was lonely on the West Coast and heading back home to the East Coast.

            1. I am planning to deck sit later and I will listen to 2000 miles and think of you and your brother and mom and all of your family.

  8. The story below is about a meteorologist going against the corporate grain and possibly losing his job. I find it illustrative of the relative freedom we all have. In spite of its flaws, I believe capitalist democracy is the best `system.’ Nevertheless, capitalism, especially in its uniquely American form, implies that corporations, businesses, and employers control to one degree or another what can be said on the job. So, while we have virtual absolute freedom to get up in a public space like the Boston Common and yell whatever we want, as employees (so in our everyday lives) our freedom is circumscribed, and sometimes severely circumscribed. In fact, more so than in a number of other countries I’ve lived and worked in, where it’s extremely hard (one might argue too hard) for employers to fire anyone, and certainly not for views expressed on the job.

    1. Excellent comment and I agree with Brian. They need to all organize. Ya know….like a Union

  9. TK, `2000 miles’ evokes memories of departed loved ones for me, too. It also reminds me of how far I’m often away from my daughter (who lives in London). Well, it’s more than 2000 miles …

It’s so good to have fond memories of your brother, TK. From Top of the Pops in England, 1983:

The song below is similarly memory-provoking (Pretenders with Bernie Worrell on keyboard, RIP).

  10. Another baseball game cxl and now Sunday’s games are in jeopardy. Talked to one of league official who’s been doing this 18 years and he said this year has been by far the worst. Oh well, not much we can do about Mother Nature.

  11. Good news for you guys in SNE: You’ve got a great meteorologist joining the NWS Boston team soon. Andrew is a local, and a fellow Plymouth State grad (so maybe I’m biased 😉 )with a great resume from his time elsewhere with the NWS. It’ll likely be a month or two before he starts at BOX but I’m glad they’ve got a good new mind coming in as they’ve had more subtractions than additions the past couple years there with a few people heading to other offices.

    Andrew Loconto @AndrewLoconto 14h

Excited to announce that I’ve accepted a tentative job offer to be the next meteorologist at @NWSBoston!

I will miss the staff in Blacksburg, but I am looking forward to working with the BOX team soon, and to forecast for southern New England, where I’ve called home for years.

  12. Alex Cora has lost his patience. He (and Benintendi) got tossed from the game. While closed door meetings rarely do anything productive, I believe one is coming very soon. 2 more errors today, falling behind early again, lackluster performance all around, getting shellacked by a so-so team. Coupled with last night’s debacle (filled with errors, base-running blunders, blown saves, etc …), there’s reason to sit these guys down and tell them to wake up.

I’m fine with competitive losing baseball. I’m not fine with non-competitive losing baseball. And the latter is what defines the Red Sox this season any time they face a reasonable team.
