Saturday Forecast

7:57AM

DAYS 1-5 (JUNE 15-19)
This weekend is definitely not going to live up to the top billing last weekend had, at least according to popular opinion, but don’t call it a lost weather weekend either, as a good many hours of it will be rain-free, including all of today. We will have to deal with some cloudiness however as a warm front passes through today. A cold front sagging into the region during Sunday will have more moisture with it, so in addition to its cloudiness will also some a shower threat, but there will be some rain-free time to sneak in some outdoor stuff. An unsettled pattern will then be with us for a few days following as the frontal boundary hangs around and a couple disturbances move along it. Right now the greatest risk for wet weather looks like it will be later Monday, early Tuesday, and a portion of Wednesday too early to determine exactly at this point.
Forecast details…

DAYS 6-10 (JUNE 20-24)
Another round of showery weather possible later June 20 and another at the end of the period. In between high pressure should bring mostly dry weather. Temperatures near to slightly above normal overall, warmest middle of period.

DAYS 11-15 (JUNE 25-29)
The trend for late June is west to east flow but more high pressure ridging to the south of New England. This pattern is warm, rain-free most of the time but still carries risk of passing shower/storms at times from jet stream disturbances.

  1. According to Barry, yesterday was the earliest sunrise (5:07) and today’s was a few seconds later. Already the journey back to morning darkness begins, technically speaking. πŸ™

    1. Well that’s a way to put a negative spin on something. πŸ˜‰

We don’t even notice the shortening for another month, and even then it’s just by a little bit.

Also, the sun sets continue to get later for a while.

      1. Oh I understand it will still be awhile before I really notice it heading out the door. It is still humbling though the fact that sunrises will not get any earlier any more from here on end while sunsets still will get later then remain steady awhile longer. Oh well. πŸ™‚

  2. This month temp average has been .1 to .4 degrees below avg so far which is what the EPS predicted. TK I am thinking this summer the temperature around here is going to avg around normal with our deviation from normal increasing in August. Not saying it won’t be warm just saying the avg temp deviation from normal.

    1. i forgot to add what are your thoughts? Do you think avg or do you think mother nature is going to turn on the furnace.

      1. I’m not TK obviously but my take on it is that Mother Nature always turns on the furnace eventually, even back in 2009 she did. πŸ˜‰

        1. There are summers it never happens. We had a couple of them in the first decade of the 2000s.

  3. Just saw three baby foxes on the hill behind our house. I’d messaged Matt the other day because we saw a single fox with a pronounced limp in a rear leg. Today, he was with two siblings who appeared to be taking good care of him. The three were playing like little children.

There was a ton of noise a couple of weeks ago from the male turkey who also has a family up there. It is possible – although of course no way to know – that the baby fox was too curious and Tom turkey didn’t like it.

    1. The debris on this fish is there because I laid on the ground to measure and then weigh. After the photo, I released the fish unharmed as it was hooked only in the lip, which is quite tough on a large mouth. I watched it swim away…

    1. It may already be damp by dawn because there should be some areas of very light to light rain along and in the vicinity of the frontal boundary. There may be several hours of rain-free weather too but the grass may already be damp before that.

I just finished cutting mine. We have a yard waste pick up this coming week and we have about 8 barrels full of stuff along with about 8 or 10 dug-up roots from old bushes that were removed.

  4. Thank you, TK.

Vicki, it’s terrific you saw baby foxes. I’ve never seen them in the wild. Love that animal.

Philip, regarding sunrise you echo what my friend yesterday – he’s a weather nut, too, by the way – “it’s all downhill from here.” He said it in jest, but he was being truthful, although as TK said we won’t really notice the changes for at least a month. I first notice real changes sunlight hours around the 25th of July. Similarly, I notice changes in sunlight hours around the 25th of January.

In the Netherlands, it’s light out until 10:30pm or so. On the flipside in late December sunrise isn’t until around 9am.

Hiking and skiing in the White Mountains have been treacherous this year. A couple of months ago there were two avalanche-related fatalities. In the past couple of days two hikers died. One was climbing Tuckerman’s Ravine. My guess is that person had a heart attack. It’s a strenuous climb, and it puts a lot of strain on the heart. My friend’s father died of a heart attack on Tuckerman’s about 30 years ago.
