Tuesday Forecast

7:18AM

DAYS 1-5 (JUNE 18-22)
A 4-day stretch of unsettled weather with waves of low pressure passing along a frontal boundary to the south of New England today and again Wednesday, the first bringing a shot of wet weather to the region later this morning into this afternoon, lingering longest to the south, the second confining itself mostly to the South Coast Wednesday while both late today and late Tuesday some showers may pop up along a convergence zone between ocean air and non-ocean air somewhere north and west of Boston. The third in the series of low pressure areas will not only be the strongest but also take a track just north of southern New England, bringing the most moisture, the heaviest rainfall threat, and a chance of thunderstorms, most of it occurring Thursday night, with wet weather lingering into Friday as the low pulls away. Drier air will be returning by later Friday and will set the region up for a nice start to the upcoming weekend as high pressure approaches, but a gusty breeze that develops during Friday between the departing low and approaching high may continue into Saturday.
Forecast details…
TODAY: Cloudy. Showers likely mainly late morning through early afternoon, most numerous southern MA, CT, RI, and may linger there longer. Pop-up showers possible southern NH and central MA mid to late afternoon. Highs 68-75. Wind light variable to SE.
TONIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Isolated showers early. Lows 58-65. Wind light SE.
WEDNESDAY: Variably cloudy. Scattered showers favoring the South Coast. Isolated pop-up showers afternoon southwestern NH and central MA. Highs 73-80, coolest coast. Wind light variable.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy. Lows 57-64. Wind light variable.
THURSDAY: Becoming cloudy. Showers likely by late-day. Highs 70-77. Wind SE 5-15 MPH.
THURSDAY NIGHT: Cloudy. Showers likely. Risk of thunderstorms. Lows 60-67. Wind variable 5-15 MPH.
FRIDAY: Cloudy with lingering showers/drizzle/fog early, then clearing. Highs 71-78. Wind variable to NW increasing to 10-20 MPH with higher gusts by late-day.
FRIDAY NIGHT: Clear. Lows 54-61. Wind NW 10-20 MPH with higher gusts.
SATURDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 73-80. Wind NW 10-20 MPH, diminishing late.

DAYS 6-10 (JUNE 23-27)
Great weather hangs on to finish off the weekend on June 23. A low pressure wave brings a threat of wet weather June 24. The June 25-27 period should be mostly fair, but not without a shower or thunderstorm threat a couple times, and overall warmer.

DAYS 11-15 (JUNE 28-JULY 2)
West to east flow over a high pressure ridge to the south and west of New England is a pattern that brings warm to occasional hot weather in, is rain-free most of the time, but also provides a few opportunities moving along the jet stream to bring a shower/t-storm threat. This is the pattern currently expected for this period.

  1. Thank you, TK…

Sticky and murky this morning with humididity in the air. 64 degrees with probably 64 degrees of dewpoint (TK, you have taught me well!!!)

Hello everyone, especially my fellow teacher, Tom…

It was great to finally meet you the other day, amigo!!!!

“Schoolhouse Rock” used to sing that “Three is a Magic Number.”
That is true, but as teachers at this time of the year, 180 is the Magic Number!

Happy Day 180, Tom!!! (Our day 180 is tomorrow)
Enjoy a well-deserved and restful vacation with family and friends!

    1. Thanks Captain !

Great to meet you, as well !

Enjoy tomorrow Captain …..chaotic today with quick classes and needing to get all the signatures to sign out. πŸ™‚

      1. Took the day of heading into Marshfield now for breakfast than dinner at a nice pembroke restaurant than cake . We buy the cakes for our birthdays from Marshfield bakery. Enjoy your day Vicki I hope the kids & grands spoil you

        1. My kids still buy their kids’ birthday cakes in Marshfield. They drive there the day before each birthday. Veronicas??? My oldest had her wedding cake made there and it is now a tradition.

Sounds as if you will have a great day!

          1. My youngest is making my favorite chicken tender and mashed potato dinner for tonight. I’m told very vaguely about a meal out on Saturday but am not being told details. I love suspense!!!!

  2. Good morning and thank you TK.

A bit muggy this morning with a bit of sun peeking through the clouds.
Can see a slug of rain on radar to the West. Projectory “looked” to bring the northern
edge of rain somewhat North of Boston. We shall see.

  3. Thank you TK!

A very Happy Birthday to Vicki! I am sure all will agree that this blog would not be the same without you and we are blessed to call you our friend.

SSK – please extend my birthday wishes to your wife.

  4. This morning I saw a dewpoint chart on Ch. 7 that had 50 in the β€œsticky” range. Personally I consider 50s as moderately dry and quite pleasant. Traditionally 60+ has been in the β€œsticky” range. What exactly has brought this new dp scale on?

  5. Thank you to a very special WHW family for birthday wishes!!! You all make my day extra special.

  6. Getting back to weather discussion, based on current radar it appears a wet afternoon in the making sometime soon.

  7. Tom and Captain and all teachers in the WHW family – I wish for you an amazing summer vacation. It is surely well deserved!!!

  8. Thankfully were missing out on strong to severe storms this afternoon here in SNE. The threat for those storms will be NYC area south into Philly where those areas have seen numerous rounds of strong to severe storms the past month and a half.

    1. I had to read that twice. I was surprised when you said thankfully. Is it because they are considered very severe? I haven’t had a chance to look at weather in other areas.

  9. Parts of NJ and PA in the past month and a half have had tornadoes. I said thankfully because the severe weather in the past month and a half has been staying south of SNE and the air here has been stable and stable air is a thunderstorms kryptonite.

    1. ahhh – I had a feeling that is what you meant. Thank you, JJ. I was hoping for a good, old fashioned tstorm today but if severe is the alternative, I’ll take what we have!!!

  10. With these fronts in the past month and a half we have been on the cooler more stable side and to the south they been in the warm and more unstable air allowing for those thunderstorms to become strong to severe. We got plenty of time for thunderstorms here.

  11. I’m part of a FB page that has nothing to do with weather. There was a brief discussion of enjoying rain, thunder, etc. Someone from michigan posted they have had 2% of available sunshine this month and far less sun than normal last month. I have no clue whether that is accurate, but negatives are certainly not restricted to New England.

  12. I remember a guy a few years back I was talking to in a NYC bar and he said every part of the country has a couple bad months stretch.

  13. Lisa Hughes just tweeted out that Barry Burbank will be inducted into the Massachusetts Broadcasters Hall of Fame.

    1. Yes indeed and I’m very happy for Mr. Burbank! My #1 TV met of all time in the Boston market, and there have been some great ones in this market!

      1. Wonderful meteorologist. He also seems like a great person.

You may recall the 2011 snow blitz, during which we had about 6 or 7 snowstorms in succession in a 6 week period. Really impressive snow pack, as the temperature barely went above freezing throughout the entire period. BB nailed every one of them. He also explained what was happening (there was a stubbornly stationary and strong Greenlandic block, as I recall) in lay terms so that people could understand it.

        1. He is. I’ve had many conversations with him in person or via email, and one over the phone.

  14. Happy Birthday, Vicki!

When you were growing up it must have been a lot of fun to have a birthday just as the summer vacation was about to begin.

    1. Thanks Joshua. It was but we always got out later than my birthday. Jr high graduation was on my birthday because we got out a couple of days ahead of others and that was very exciting

  15. Congratulations to all the teachers on WHW. Your dedication is appreciated. Another school year in the books, literally and figuratively.

  16. Sticky in Boston, but not oppressive. Feels a little bit like the tropical rain forest at the zoo.

  17. Very wonderful news about Barry being inducted into the MA BHOF! πŸ™‚

TK – Is Don Kent there? Any other local tv mets?

  18. Thanks, Joshua and everyone for your kind words for a nice summer vacation.
I finish my 36th year in the classroom tomorrow morning (In the words of the real Captain Fantastic, “I’m Still Standing!”)
I still love what I do and I love the kids…

I know most of you were disappointed at the lack of snow this past winter, but a quiet winter resulted in only one snow day, make-up this year. I’ll take that. I can’t remember when the last time that happened. Also, a nice and not hot spring kept the heat and humidity out of the building this year.

    1. Wow some names that bring back memories. Ernie Boch raised an eyebrow but I suspect due to my ignorance
