Sunday Forecast

7:28AM

DAYS 1-5 (SEPTEMBER 15-19)
No changes for today’s update. High pressure southwest of the region sends a warm/dry westerly air flow across southern New England today, a very nice late summer day. A disturbance dives out of Canada and across the region the first half of Monday, possibly triggering some showers and maybe even a thunderstorm. This will be followed by another push of high pressure from Canada with pleasant weather Tuesday into midweek.
Forecast details…
TODAY: Early morning clouds Cape Cod & Islands with a few showers crossing the Islands, otherwise mostly sunny. Less humid. Highs 75-82. Wind W 5-15 MPH.
TONIGHT: Mostly clear evening. Increasing clouds overnight. Lows 55-62. Wind W 5-15 MPH.
MONDAY: Mostly cloudy with scattered showers and a slight risk of a thunderstorm morning-midday. Clearing north to south afternoon. Highs 66-73. Wind W 10-15 MPH shifting to N with higher gusts.
MONDAY NIGHT: Clear. Patchy valley, swamp, and bog fog. Lows 45-52. Wind N diminishing to under 10 MPH.
TUESDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 63-70. Wind NE 5-15 MPH, higher gusts.
TUESDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows 43-50, coolest interior valleys. Wind light variable.
WEDNESDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 64-71. Wind E up to 10 MPH.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Clear. Lows 45-52. Wind light variable.
THURSDAY: Sunny. Highs 67-74. Wind light variable.

DAYS 6-10 (SEPTEMBER 20-24)
High pressure surface and aloft will provide fair weather and above normal temperatures for the final 3 days of summer September 20-22. High pressure gives way to an approaching trough from the west, slowly, and while still mild it will start to turn more unsettled later in the period.

DAYS 11-15 (SEPTEMBER 25-29)
Staying with a slow transition, still on the milder side, but better opportunities for showers at times heading into late September as the jet stream sinks to the south to send more disturbances this way while a high pressure ridge tries to hang on to the south and east of New England.

  1. According to Barry, an easy forecast week ahead.

Not to mention, a week ago at this time, 90’s were forecasted for tomorrow and Tuesday.

  2. Thanks TK !

Classic Sept/Oct camping weekend. At one point Fri night/sat morning, it probably was close to 43F. Then last night, I doubt it got below 68F with dewpoints to match.

    1. As you may have seen on Facebook I will be celebrating the “sum” part of it by taking a walk along the shore line on the New Hampshire Seacoast this afternoon.

  3. There have been spots of color for up to 3 weeks.

so far I have seen it in all the places that I usually see it starting in late August: Vines, older trees of the maple variety, etc. It’s definitely a sign of things to come considering that Autumn begins in 8 days. No stopping that from happening. 😀

      1. We had leaves on the ground this time last year. But we had a lot of heat and rain and wind and some insect damage but not as much as year before

    1. I spent Saturday in Barlett, NH and noticed some very colorful patches along west side road. Also, when you look around at some of the mountains you can notice some lighter green colors in the leaves. I feel like peak up there will be impressive this year.

  4. Gostkowski has better get his act together in the second half. A game in Miami is always a “trap” game and this one is NO exception.

  5. Thank you, TK!

Philip, I think the changes in color that you and I see in Boston are normal previews of the main event. Even a couple of cool nights will do it. Moreover, the leaf’s life cycle plays a part, too. Many of the birds have migrated south. And, what is definitely noticeable – more so in September than any other month, in my humble opinion – is the fact that it’s getting darker at an accelerated pace.

I believe the Dolphins this year are exhibit A for what I think should change in the NFL. Draft picks should all be random draws. No awards for being bad. No penalties for being good. The argument that it somehow promotes parity has no basis in evidence. The haves and have nots – especially in the NBA and NFL – are pretty much the same every year.

I think that to promote competitive play across the board I believe relegation to the CFL could be designated to the two worst teams in the NFL every year. The two best teams in the CFL could get promoted to the NFL every year. The idea of tanking is so foreign to me. And yet, it happens now in every American sport because we don’t have properly aligned incentives. Without the threat of relegation and with a draft system that incentivizes tanking we’ll have teams like the Orioles and Dolphins forever.

  6. What a gorgeous afternoon at Hampton Beach! Light breeze, warm & dry air, “mild” water, was in it for a little while. I didn’t walk too far because my time was limited there today. Thinking of returning for longer next Saturday and walking it all.

Had the game in my ears, sand ‘tween the toes, and of course a bit of ocean water! It was quite busy up there, and 75% of the stuff was open!

  7. Some slight hints of Humberto interacting with an upper low ?? to hold it from flying way, way out in the open Atlantic and perhaps let it be a multiple day swell machine in New England.

  8. I can’t wait to see the Dolphins next week. Cowboys already a 16.5 point favorite and the way they have looked against the Giants and Redskins there is no reason they can’t start the season 3-0.

    1. Wishing your team the very best year possible. Can’t recall If I mentioned it here, but a few of the sports talking heads think it will be cowboys and pats when it all shakes out

  9. Will see a lot of good teams in the NFC. My thinking going into the season for the Cowboys was 9-7 10-6 sneaking into the playoffs possibly winning the NFC East if things broke right. The Cowboys play the Patriots November 24th and could that be a Super Bowl preview?

  10. To me as a Cowboys fan the harder part of the schedule starts week four going to New Orleans, home to Green Bay week 5, Jets on the road week 6 which they should be able to win, and the Eagles at home week 7. If they got into the bye week 8 at 5-2 after that stretch then I might start believing there is something special about this Cowboys team and they could make a deep run in the playoffs.

  11. Sad news. Ric Ocasek died earlier today. He created a uniquely American New Wave sound. The Cars’ first album is an absolute masterpiece.

My sister and his son were classmates at Heath School in Brookline. My father bumped into him at a Heath School parent-teacher evening. He asked my mother, “who’s that weirdly dressed person over there?” Ric was probably dressed in velvet, as was his custom.

Unfortunately, Benjamin Orr died young as well, back in 2000. So, now Ric and Ben can do gigs like this in heaven:

    1. One of my all time favorite lyricists. He was no Dylan, but could he string together some bizarre phrases and somehow you got the feel of the story in the songs. Loved his production work as well, both with the sound he created with The Cars, his solo stuff, and other bands (including No Doubt and Weezer).

          1. The Cars debut album is one of the greatest Rock & Roll albums of all time. Opens with 3 hit songs, track 4 is a tune that makes it sound like the equipment is frying in the studio and includes the drummer breaking bottles on the floor (haha), then a dirty little rock song to end side 1. Side 2 is a masterpiece. Four incredible rock songs that blended straightforward classic rock sound, a bit of influence from the 2 decades before (50s & 60s) and cutting edge new wave before anybody really knew what new wave was. “Moving In Stereo” flowing into “All Mixed Up”, one of the best song marriages of all time…

  12. 1st what a dominant performce by the defense, I think it needs more praise than the offense as it has not allowed a touchdown since the AFC championship last year. (39 points in fantasy lol gave me more than a QB.

Offense was good, I wouldn’t want any of the receivers on my fantasy though
The only down thing is that when it comes to the harder games in the second half of the season and the playoffs we need Stephen to be good and consistent. He is still one of the best and I feel its the handlers fault, If you look he is not placing it correctly.

In bigger news, my brother Chris hiked Mt Washington today with some friends. I am extremely proud of him changing his health about 2 years ago.
