Spring-Type Upper Low To Bring Fall-Type Weather

9:02PM

The upper level pattern is more like Spring right now, with cut off low pressure areas, slow-moving, making timing of things difficult. This is true for my recent forecasts. If you look back to posts from last week, you can see that I initially thought we would have a rainy start to the week and a better ending. The low took so long to get here that the first half of the week was quite nice, the unsettled weather got here Thursday, and the fact that yet another upper level cut off low is about to form and hang around, the once nice-looking weekend outlook has to be adjusted to a more unsettled one. Another complex example of the inexactness of weather forecasting. So be it.

So to summarize, we’ve had our showers and storms for now, we have a nice day coming up Friday between today’s activity and a newly forming low that will bring unsettled and cooler weather for the weekend and probably into Monday of next week.

It still looks like we will see fair, milder weather by the middle to end of next week. It just will have a delayed arrival.

It wouldn’t surprise me of the weather has other tricks up its sleeve during the next week, but for now, this is the way I see it…

  1. Thanks, TK. How scattered are the showers supposed to be tomorrow? We are celebrating my husband’s birthday (finally, as it was in mid-August) and he wanted a cookout late afternoon.

    1. Sorry for the late reply! I think most of today is rain-free from here on. Watch the radar in case of surprises but at this point I would not cancel a cookout.

  2. Those showers & storms were quite fierce for late September. I had to close windows which I don’t recall having to do all summer. Boston received almost an inch of rain yesterday (0.94″). There were quite a bit of lightning flashes but not much thunder.

  3. The one good thing with those showers and storms yesterday was it pushed out the humidity. Sunday I would not be surprised if there are places in SNE that don’t get out of the 50s.

  4. Well, Ophelia certainly has gotten its act together. Looks excellent on satellite…..Beautiful day today……..Dont like the trend on the GFS and EURO for this upper low going a bit south of the region and moving slowly. Makes me think clouds and raw for days, but maybe a nice Columbus Day Weekend with a warming trend.

  5. Hopefully Ophellia will stay to the east of Bermuda as currently projected and Phillipe looks to remain a fish storm and not threaten any land at this time.

  6. Most of the time hurricane season in NE is from Aug 1st – Sept 30th. I know there’s been a few exceptions, I would bet we r out of hurricane season here as there wont be any landfallen hurricanes, maybe down south but not here, hope everyone has a great weekend

    1. Wow is right. Losing some strength. Wonder if they’ll hold together. I would mind another T storm or two before winter

  7. Good morning – very foggy here. I heard some storms in the distance about 1:45 this morning. Each rumble of thunder seemed to continue for a very long time. We only got rain

    1. Hi Vicki.

No fog here….had heavy showers about 5am…..even though its not raining now, we can hear distant occasional thunder.
