Sunday Forecast

7:24AM

DAYS 1-5 (SEPTEMBER 22-26)
The autumnal equinox, the start of fall, is 4:50AM Monday. This final day of summer and first day of fall will both feel like summer, with a warm southwesterly air flow in place, but stronger Monday, ahead of an approaching cold front. That front may produce a passing shower sometime in the dark hours of Monday night / Tuesday morning, and will replace the summery air with a more seasonably cool batch of air Tuesday-Wednesday before it warms a bit more by Thursday. Upper level low pressure crossing the region Tuesday probably means we’ll see more clouds in the sky than we’ve seen recently, but high pressure should reassert enough control for lots of sunshine by midweek.
Forecast details…
TODAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 79-86. Wind SW 5-15 MPH.
TONIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows 58-65. Wind SW 5-15 MPH.
MONDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 78-85. Wind SW 10-20 MPH.
MONDAY NIGHT: Variably cloudy. Chance of a passing shower. Lows 60-67. Wind SW 5-15 MPH shifting to NW.
TUESDAY: Partly sunny. Highs 68-75. Wind NW 10-20 MPH.
TUESDAY NIGHT: Clearing. Lows 45-52. Wind N 5-15 MPH.
WEDNESDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 70-77. Wind N 5-15 MPH.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows 50-57. Wind W up to 10 MPH.
THURSDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 73-80. Wind SW 5-15 MPH.

DAYS 6-10 (SEPTEMBER 27-OCTOBER 1)
Mainly dry, high pressure ridge centered southwest of New England with west to northwest air flow at upper levels and only a couple minor disturbances passing by with minimal shower threats. Temperatures near to above normal, a little variable from today to day depending on where surface high pressure is centered and resultant wind direction.

DAYS 11-15 (OCTOBER 2-6)
No significant change expected, overall dry, variable temperatures but averaging slightly above normal overall.

  1. Good morning and thank you TK.

DP still behaving. My equipment is reading 55 which appears to be in line
    with neighboring observations.

  2. Thank you, TK. What an amazing stretch of weather we have been having. Having seen photos from TX, I’d say we are blessed. My heart aches for the many people impacted in that area.

    1. When you have a stable (not changing much) pattern, you’ll often see somebody getting pummeled while most others are fortunate. Certainly the case in an otherwise very quiet US weather scene right now.

  3. Answers to quizzes.

    1) On this date in 1938, one of the most deadly and destructive hurricanes to hit New England was named …
    A. Bob
    B. Carol
    C. Gloria
    D. Unnamed

    The correct answer is D.

    2) How many September heat waves have occurred in Boston since 1872?

    A. 4
    B. 14
    C. 24
    D. 34

The correct answer is A. I think Philip and Vicki (first try) got them right.

    1. You are kind to give me credit, but I’ll defer to Philip since I did change my answer. Thank you for posting the quizzes. As you know, I enjoy them.

  4. Thanks TK !

As long as humidity stays in check, keep this warmth coming.

Lord knows we either have plenty of dark, cold or both coming for many months.

  5. well tropical storm Karen looks to take aim at me, rather this than whats currently off the african coast. Many models have that thing which would become Lorenzo to be a beast. Fortunatly looks to stay well out at sea as that high pressure over the North Atlantic looks to break down

    1. He’s bashing everyone and he also tweeted that he will no longer play in the NFL…his decision.

What a talent though. Too bad, too sad.

    2. He needs help and that is sad. I sincerely hope he gets it. But the message folks give is not helpful either. Most were thrilled to see him because they thought he would help get another ring….knowing full well the rep he has. When he goes and is no longer useful to us, he is trashed.

      1. He’s been trashed all along. As a pats fan did I want him to work out absolutely but he just couldn’t keep his big mouth shut . When he starts harassment of one of his accused victims & posts a picture of her kids as well as tag his buddies on the text is just wrong & he’s affiliated with some very bad dudes . Some people are beyond help . Now this non stop drama regarding the pats can stop & we can watch a team If all goes well with health & injury could have a historic run this season . Go Pats . What a warm beautiful day today

        1. Frankly I never heard about ABs violence and harassment towards women until the Patriots acquired him. I always thought his issues with Pittsburgh (and very briefly at Oakland) were strictly NFL related. Wasn’t it a particular football helmet AB insisted on wearing or something and the league said “no”?

          1. Unless I missed something and I may well have, there has been nothing proven. Either way, everyone knew he had a troubled past and was willing to look the other way. The pats were smart enough to leave a way out which doesn’t surprise me. Word is a lot of players were unhappy about him being let go. But then is that because they saw him as the means to an end despite his rep.

            1. The text that he sent Wednesday night was proved & posted on news & social media . Last comment on brown .

  6. Taking into account a much lower sun angle, approaching < 12 hrs of sunlight and surface placement of high pressure, the 12z Euro's projection of the next east coast ridge and 850mb temps for late week and next week is impressive. Potential for more 80F + next weekend.

Above are imgur links to scans created from two commemorative booklets (one from the Fall River Herald News and other from New Bedford’s Reynold Publishing) illustrating the destruction from the Hurricane of 1938. Most of the photos were taken 71 years ago today.

  8. Thanks, TK…
Just posted some imgur links for ’38 Hurricane photos. Word Press says that my comment is awaiting moderation.

Can you check on this, TK?

Thanks as always for the trivia, Longshot!!!

      1. I will see if I can find a link to that special, Vicki.
Maybe I need to paste one imgur per comment. I tried to paste all eight links to one comment and I overwhelmed Word Press.

  9. CF I apologize I didn’t get to your request earlier. I was at a wake / memorial service this afternoon then spending some time with my brother for his birthday.

Do you still need me to check or did the ones go that you wanted?

  10. CF I went ahead and approved the original post anyway. If they are duplicates, no worries.

What happens is WordPress will flag any message that has a certain # of links in it as it will look like “spam” to its filter system. I can change the # of links but I think it’s set at 6 or 8 or something like that.

  11. Seeing a tad bit more evidence that the warm bubble will spend more time in the Midwest as we head toward and into October and we’ll end up with more intrusions of Canadian air, which is going to be coming at us on the cooler side of normal in some cases due to the early occurrence of snow in some of the source regions.

Although we will still get some warm intrusions, I think we’ll keep them from being too persistent. This 3-day stretch here is actually one of the longer ones we’ll have. The scales are starting to tip.

Also, I’m disappointed because of the inconsistency of the CFS model the last several days, and the poor performance of the Euro Weeklies recently. Hopefully they’ll get their acts together.

  12. Incredible photos, Captain. Oddly 25 cents seems like a lot of money for a paper. That aside, I know the devastation was horrific. And the warning was pretty much nonexistent

    Thank you very much

    1. Vicki…I cannot find a link to that NBC 10 Hurricane Special. I DVRed it and watched a minute or two of it. The first 5ish minutes were interviews with the NOAA Hurricane Hunters. After a commercial, there was coverage of Hurricane Dorian into the NC coast.
I thought it might have been a special about historical hurricanes of New England, but I don’t think so. I previewed it quickly during halftime of the Pats’ game. I’ll watch it in its entirety when I have a free 30 minutes.

      1. Hurricane photos: The photo of the mom and her son sitting outside what was their home haunts me. That storm caught everyone by surprise. Remember the Boston Braves/Bees played a baseball game on September 21, 1938?

I can’t imagine what that mom and boy were thinking.

      1. Awesome. I’ve watched 18 of the 1:18 on this and it’s excellent. I love the back story. I will watch more later after kids come downstairs to say goodnight. Absolutely fascinating.

  13. Well, the link I posted was quite well done but emotionally draining. I know my mom and grandmother were lucky to get home without injury but this ….wow

    1. This has a photo of Mt Auburn st Cambridge. It’s the street my mom and grandmother were walking on to get to Belmont after returning from a day in Boston but having buses shit down in Harvard square. I wish I knew the name of the taxi driver from Morse Taxi In Belmont who recognized them and stopped to drive them home. My mom said trees, poles and wires were coming down all around them

You all knew I’d tell the story yet again ….didn’t you?
