Saturday Forecast

7:57AM

DAYS 1-5 (JANUARY 4-8)
Low pressure approaches from the southwest today sending areas of rain into the region due to mild enough air both surface and aloft. As the low departs via the Gulf of Maine early Sunday, colder air will be working back in and precipitation will end as snow showers, with possibly a period of steadier snow closer to eastern coastal locations, but only minor accumulation is anticipated from this event. Quickly comes the next low pressure area, a clipper-type system diving through the Great Lakes but into a lot of dry air, so it will lose much of its punch and only produce spotty very light snow early Monday as it meets its demise. But in this active pattern, we get 3 low pressure areas to impact the region, and the third will travel from the Ohio Valley either over or just south of southern New England late Tuesday through early Wednesday. This system will have more moisture to work with, and with more marginally cold air in place, there will probably be a rain/snow line involved as well. The forecast details…
TODAY: Cloudy. Periods of rain. Highs 40-47. Wind E 5-15 MPH.
TONIGHT: Cloudy. Rain, possibly mixing with or turning to snow portions of southern NH and northern MA. Lows 30-37. Wind N 10-20 MPH, higher gusts possible.
SUNDAY: Cloudy morning with snow or snow showers except rain ending as snow or snow showers southeastern MA/RI/eastern CT. Snow accumulation of a coating to 1 inch possible, mostly along and north of I-90, with a few over 1 inch amounts possible northern portion of the I-95 corridor. Partly sunny afternoon. Highs 35-42. Wind NW 15-25 MPH, higher gusts possible.
SUNDAY NIGHT: Clear. Lows 20-27. Wind NW 10-20 MPH, higher gusts possible.
MONDAY: Variably cloudy. Chance of snow showers, favoring the morning. Highs 30-37. Wind NW 5-15 MPH.
MONDAY NIGHT: Variably cloudy. Lows 20-27. Wind N up to 10 MPH.
TUESDAY: Mostly cloudy. Rain/mix/snow possible late. Highs 35-42. Wind NE 5-15 MPH.
TUESDAY NIGHT: Cloudy. rain/mix/snow likely. Lows 30-37. Wind variable 10-20 MPH.
WEDNESDAY: Mostly cloudy. Rain/mix/snow likely early, ending as mix/snow showers. Highs 38-45. Wind variable to N 10-20 MPH, higher gusts.

DAYS 6-10 (JANUARY 9-13)
Quick interlude of drier, colder weather to start the period and then a stretch of unsettled weather with a couple low pressure systems impacting the region with threat of rain/mix/snow, details to be determined.

DAYS 11-15 (JANUARY 14-18)
The active pattern continues with variable temperatures but no big time extremes in temperature noted through the middle of the month.

  1. Thanks TK
    Wild Card Picks this weekend
    Texans
    Patriots
    Saints
    Seahawks
The pick I am most confident is the Saints beating the Vikings. My Super Bowl prediction at the beginning of the season was Chiefs Saints with the Chiefs winning it.

  2. Saints, Seahawks, Bills, Patriots

    Super Bowl: Bills vs Saints

NFL network last night was showing Vikings vs Saints playoff game from 2 years ago and then, of course, what happened to Saints last year with no pass interference call. So, I’m rooting for them coming out of the NFC.

AFC : Pats go on to shock Kansas City, then lose to Bills in AFC title game at home.

  3. I don’t feel confident with my picks of the Texans Patriots and Seahawks. You could make a case for these teams opponents for them to win the game.

    1. I never count anyone out, but it’s fun to see Predictions. If there were a fix last week, the pats will come back mad as heck….unless it wasn’t for just one game. Anyone hear any more on the filming incident?

      1. I hope Belichick’s game plan is to put 7 or 8 in the box, to stop the running game, play man to man on the receivers and if Tannehill can beat you, so be it. But try to stop Derrick Henry.

        1. It’s tough to bet against the Patriots at home in the playoffs which is why I am picking them.

  4. We should keep track of these Super Bowl Predictions and look back and see if anyone got this right. I don’t if this something we want to post on the contest page but I see Tom has a Super Bowl prediction like I do.

    1. Pats will be watching at their perspective homes (or mansions) with the rest of us after having long since been wiped out by KC.

          1. Final play as a Patriot. HAHA..

If it’s a victory kneel-down, he’ll be playing at least one more game as a Patriot. 😉

                1. Tk that’s not a giving Brady is quite pissed off this year . However I do think he will be a patriot next year but as of now all possibilities remain on the table

    2. I’m in JPD camp. And while Brady May retire, I’ve been listening to folks both analyze Brady say he’s done for a decade or so. He will be done …..in his time. And I will be forever grateful I was able to experience his true greatness. That makes two who are the greatest in my life. Can’t ask for more than that

  5. I heard on the tv news this morning that ACE Tickets have plenty of seats available at only $105 apiece which as if I heard correctly, the lowest ever for a playoff game around here.

    1. It’s why I think some Patriots `fans’ will bolt once the team loses its luster – well, that’s already happening.

While the Patriots have expanded their fan base considerably in the last 20 years I’m not convinced it’s a very loyal base overall. It’s not like the other three teams in terms of loyalty. At least, that’s my humble opinion.

It’s too bad. While football is definitely not my favorite sport, I liked the Patriots of the 70s, 80s, 90s, and the current dynasty. From Sam Bam Cunningham, to Stanley Morgan, to Grogan, to Tippett, to Bledsoe, to McGinest, to Coates, to Brady et al.

      1. That 1976 team deserved better. Ben Dreith single handily destroyer that SB dream. What perhaps could have been. 🙁

Not to mention 1978 with Earl Campbell running roughshod over us. 🙁

      2. While football is not my #1 (hockey is), I’ve always been a Pats fan even when they were … less than good … 😉

      3. Boston and fans do not belong in the same sentence …with exceptions of course. My opinion based on seven decades of watching so called fans turn the second the team doesn’t win….for them

    1. It probably won’t do much other than a bit of drizzle and a few sprinkles of very light rain.

  6. So I think this (again) should put to rest the debate that only snow-producing systems under-perform. Our rainy Saturday is hardly that… 😉 The atmosphere doesn’t really care what form the precipitation is when it is reaching the ground. It just has to do with the set-up each particular time. This is a set-up that does not allow a whole lot of generation of precipitation. That is going to occur overnight and early Sunday at whatever maximum we’re going to see.

    1. You think Boston sees a coating tonight Tk . I’m at work now since 5am I don’t want to come back

          1. Meaning you are the ones they call if conditions look like they’re going to become treacherous.

            1. 9 out of 10 times when we know a storm is coming we just report at a certain time to prepare . Something like this a toss up storm if you will it may or may not be an impact we would get a call if we were needed by the lead Engineer on that giving night . No mention of it today at work

              1. That’s because whoever is making the decision is probably looking at a weather app. Do they have their own weather service or do they just go with whatever is available for free? As a forecaster, while it is not set in stone, I’d not rule out an impact in the early hours of Sunday that may require at least brief attention. I’d at least have all workers on alert for that possibility.

                1. We know about it Tk Enginnering is a 24/ 7 operation we have live cameras on everything with a 24/ 7 base operating HQ as well as Engineers. And yes they do have a service but I do not know who it is . We also have some bags of salt out if an Enginnering member had to put down

    1. So many fans are in panic mode….because they can’t win a shoot-out? That’s the least of any worries in this game. They still get a point for an OT or shoot-out loss.

Oh yes, and last year, they were 1 game away from winning the cup after 25 losses during the season. Yup, they’re gonna lose games.

      1. Back in the day though an OT loss resulted in ZERO points and the B’s would have long since fizzled out and mired in dead last place by now already done with any postseason hopes.

        1. Headline in the back page of yesterday’s Boston Herald:

          N(OT)
          GOOD

“New Year, same woes in overtime”.

          1. They would be far from in last place if those losses were zero points. They’d be in 3rd place.

And the Herald was very much over-reacting. Bruins have a solid team – and they’ve had some bumps in their road the last few weeks. It’s funny how they can write a headline like that when the B’s are near the top in the standings and riding an 8-game point streak. Vicki is right, Boston fans (with exceptions) expect too much perfection and flip out when they don’t get it. Those aren’t her words but I’m paraphrasing her idea from earlier.

            1. I will add… that goal at the end of the 2nd was on Halak. He should have easily stopped that. Bad goal to give up, and even moreso with 6 seconds to go in the 2nd period to give the visitors the lead going into the 3rd. It’s mistakes like that and stretches of lackluster play that have them where they are right now. But they can and I believe will overcome it.

    1. Yes. Ill-advised. Even in this shaky stretch the team has not been horrendous. Today, however, was a pretty poor performance overall. Ah well, onto Nashville!

  7. If you are a fan of one of these teams it is nerve racking but for the rest of us its a thrilling game.

    1. True. Sadly….I managed to get into it and think my emotions are spent. I need a recharge before pats.

  8. If your a Bills fan you are sick to your stomach. You blew a 16-0 lead, personal foul penalty in overtime where if there isn’t a penalty your kicking a field goal to win the game, and give up a 3rd and 18 in overtime. The Watson play tip your cap that was amazing he didn’t get sacked with two Buffalo players coming at him and to complete the throw for a first down leading to the game winning field goal.

    1. Yeah I definitely think the bills made some critical mistakes that cost them . That 15 yard penalty was uncalled for & cost them the game . Phenomenal 4th quarter for a fan of the game .

  9. If Derrick Henry continues to run like he did on the opening drive Patriots could be in trouble.

  10. Henry cannot be stopped. He’s headed for a 150 yard plus game.

Patriots can’t settle for field goals. They won’t win if they do.

  11. Derrick Henry was a Heisman Trophy Winner in college. Explosive running back for the Alabama Crimson Tide. To me holding the Patriots to a field goal with the goal line stand gave the Titans confidence they could hang with the Patriots and maybe win this game.

  12. IF BB cannot concoct a strategy to STOP Henry, I am afraid my prediction of a Pats
win gets flushed down the toilet. Would love to be a fly on the wall in the Pats locker
room right now. BB FIGURE IT OUT!! We need this one.

  13. We’ve just witnessed the end of the Patriots dynasty. As someone who’s had nearly their entire lifespan during the dynasty, that’s crazy to say. But it had to end eventually, and what a ride.

    1. Oh well I don’t think Brady is ending it like that I think he’s back in sane uniform. Time for bed please Boston no coating I have been there enough already !!!!!

  14. Next event “appears” to be trending off shore. We shall see. Nam is the closest
    with most qpf.
