Tuesday Forecast

7:29AM

DAYS 1-5 (MARCH 31-APRIL 4)
A blocking pattern will continue as we end March and begin April. First it allows some drier weather the next couple days. Next it will force low pressure initially south of the region as it move eastward, then capturing it and causing a large loop in its track, bringing wet weather back for a time later Thursday to early Friday. Dry weather will be back for the remainder of Friday to Saturday as the low pulls away.
TODAY: Partly sunny. A rain or snow shower near the South Coast early. Highs 42-49. Wind N 5-15 MPH.
TONIGHT: Variably cloudy. Lows 33-40. Wind N 5-15 MPH.
WEDNESDAY: Mostly cloudy. Highs 43-50. Wind N 10-20 MPH.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Lows 38-45. Wind NE 10-20 MPH.
THURSDAY: Mostly cloudy. Chance of rain, mainly afternoon and favoring eastern coastal areas. Highs 43-50. Wind NE 10-20 MPH.
THURSDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Periods of rain. Lows 36-43. Wind NE 5-15 MPH.
FRIDAY: Mostly cloudy with a chance of rain early, then partly sunny. Highs 46-53. Wind N 5-15 MPH.
FRIDAY NIGHT: Variably cloudy. Lows 35-42. Wind N 5-15 MPH.
SATURDAY: Partly sunny. Highs 48-55. Wind NW 10-20 MPH.

DAYS 6-10 (APRIL 5-9)
Milder April 5, a late-day rain shower possible. Cooler thereafter with additional unsettled weather possible April 6-8 then dry weather at the end of the period.

DAYS 11-15 (APRIL 10-14)
Not high confidence but blocking may weaken. This would be a mostly dry pattern with a couple brief and minor unsettled weather events, starting cool then moderating.

  1. To Vicki,

I checked out Heartland on Amazon Prime. Although I see seasons 12 & 13,
I can not watch them without an additional subscription to some crazy thing
like family and something or other. Bummer! I am NOT subscribing to another service.

Thank you as it was worth a look see.

    1. ie in other words it was NOT included with Prime, but available through
      Amazon for additional fees.

      1. I just found that out also. I am going to subscribe this am. First month is free and $5.00 after. But only so my granddaughter can watch with me…..remotely. I was going to get the season dvds but they are about $35 each. Ugh. Sorry about that JPD 🙁

        1. No issues. Not going to pay for that. Will wait until
they arrive at Netflix. I am currently watching as many
of the Marvel series I can.

          Flash
          Green Arrow
          The Defenders
          Dare Devil
          Jessica Jones
          Lucas Cage

    1. The White House should seriously consider a nationwide lockdown here. It will probably lead to another hoarding spree, but it may very well be the only way to keep the next (fall) wave at bay.

    1. It should extend out to late May but I understand why they are kind of stair-stepping it.

      1. I understand as well. Two fold: not to incite panic / casual optimism that warm weather might play a factor in decreasing the potency of the virus. Former is more at play but can’t downplay the fact that a lot of people in charge are hoping for the latter.

        1. I think at this point if people just take a deep breath, and realize that the only thing we can do is the best that we can do, then we can start to let some of the stress that’s overly-prevalent go. I get the fact that not everybody can just do that and I accept it as well, but those of us who can, do it, and help others deal. It sounds painfully simple, but it’s also true. Sorry if there are any typos here, I’m currently experiencing a visual aura migraine and I’m typing blindly. I can’t see these letters whatsoever beyond a few hints of black behind colored zigzags. 😉

          1. I myself am perfectly zen about the totality of things. I had more time to prepare than others (began in mid January when the writing was on the wall of not if but when.) I do not envy those in positions of power having this duty thrust upon them.

Aural migraines are a terror. I hope yours don’t have a long duration.

            1. When I first get the visual, as soon as I can I take tylenol (the only pain killer I can take) and have a bit of caffeine. Well it so turns out that I had just finished and iced coffee so that was done, took tylenol. This was a left-moving visual aura, which tends to lead to less pain than auras that move to the right (for some unknown reason). I equate them to right-moving thunderstorms having a tendency to be more severe. 😛

    2. I agree re doing in steps. I’d like to see it enforced more.

Dr Stupid. My first order of my meds was mid December. My first search for masks was Jan 3 and they were gone then. Like you….I saw the potential but prayed it would be like other times and not materialize. Still prepared with my step one list of procedures.

TK. I think we could relax more if folks stopped being FOOLISH. Sadly, these people not only add to the duration of this significantly but also the stress

  2. Nice weather today, albeit brisk. The sun has been fairly bright at times. Public Garden is flowering nicely, as are Beacon Street and Commonwealth Avenue.

The news today on Covid-19 is not great. In Europe, one step forward and one step backward. Although Italy’s new cases have come down, they’re not dropping the way I and many others had anticipated. Yesterday and today almost identical numbers of new cases at just above 4,000. Numbers of new deaths ~830. That’s been daily now for many days. Spain’s numbers come in two batches. I’m eagerly awaiting the second batch, as the first one looked reasonable, but still 6,430 new cases and 550 new deaths. France’s numbers were bad. Full stop. I’m writing a Forbes article on France which I will post tomorrow. Steady increase in new cases the past 3 days; total number of new cases 7,600, new deaths (499; total 3,523), and total numbers of patients in intensive care (>5,100). Holland suffered its worst day by far in terms of deaths (173), though the rate of new case growth is no longer increasing.

In the U.S. I’m less hopeful at this point. Bad numbers almost everywhere you look, and that’s without systematic testing in place. I figured Sunday’s data was like a bad GFS run. That’s turned out accurate. I believe we’re headed for our worst day in terms of new cases and deaths. Still to be determined, but I’m not liking what I’m seeing. Hotspots cropping up throughout the nation. That has me even more concerned than metro NYC.

    1. It is going to get worse before it gets better. It’s okay to feel optimistic when there is a day or two of favorable numbers, but we must not be irresponsible to think that such a small sample size represents a bend in the curve. It’s like the economy. There will be good days and not so good days and we will eventually prevail but we have a long way to go. Like meteorology over modelology, science invalidates guesswork.

  3. I heard that when Governor Cuomo did his briefing today. Chris will be hosting his show from the basement of his house.

    1. They are tone deaf.

Now, maybe they do start on time, but given how everything else is shut down, to just be oblivious to the current situation is well, not good.

Something like, were hoping to start on-time, but were monitoring things and we’ll keep you updated as time moves forward.

    2. That’s great that the NFL thinks it will start on time. Gives some people something to look forward to whether it happens or not.

      1. As much as I love NFL football, I couldn’t disagree more. Now is not the time for the NFL to announce such matters when five hundred to a thousand Americans per die are dying amidst the middle of a global viral attack.

        1. Let’s not forget that this virus has taken people that never had the virus to begin with. People with mental health issues are really suffering and I feel anything positive is a good thing and is much needed here on this blog as well as in our individual lives.

I feel people need to live and let live and not be so critical or judgmental.

          1. Positive is great and I agree people need to live just as long as their behavior and the decisions that they make do not foolishly and adversely impact other innocent people.

      1. This is where I am placing my concentration while I do my part. I’m staying safe, keeping mom safe, staying positive, photographing what I can, where I can, and staying away from stuff I don’t need. 🙂 Renewed approach. 🙂

I’m really excited about something that I can’t even say anything about yet! 😉

  4. Boston will come in #1 on their list of least snowy January-March periods, but sits at #6 so far on least snowy winters. Since it’s not April yet, and Boston averages 1 inch of snow in April, we know that #6 cannot be considered final. They could very well move another notch or so down to #7 or 8.

  5. I haven’t been in at work in over a week. Been using time. Have to go in tomorrow. Coworker called me and said he heard two people in the call center in the building tested positive. But when I pressed if it was a rumor he said two people told him – but not a manager or anyone of authority. Wouldn’t they need to inform people if it was true? Wearing my mask and gloves and thankfully I don’t work in the call center part of the floor.

      1. As I just added Dr Stupid to my morning before my feet hit the ground prayer list, I thought God might be chuckling

        1. I thank you. And I believe I’ve mentioned I’ve had the handle of “Dr. Stupid” since about 1992 online. From the show Ren and Stimpy: https://vimeo.com/98281088 made me laugh then and still makes me laugh. Though I also answer to Ryan. lol

          1. Big smiles here…. either I missed that or my old memory forgot but I won’t know.

So Dr Ryan Stupid it is. He knows …:)

  6. New post…

I probably won’t be around the blog much the next few days other than to update it, especially today.
