  1. Conspiracy Theory….

The positivity Percentage for tests performed is going down as is the number
of tests. Brings up the possibility that in order to support the president’s directive
    three things are happening:

    1. NOT enough test kits are being provided, thus keeping the number of cases artificially low.
    2. The tests that are being provided are of such poor quality that there are
many false negative results, again forcing positivity precentages down and Number of cases artificially low.
    3. States are NOT reporting all of the cases that are actually there.

I am NOT buying the phony data we are being provided.

I fear we are in this mess for a long, long time to come.

Call me nuts, but that’s my story and I am sticking to it.

WHY are the Massachusetts numbers so low? WHY?
Have we contained the virus that well? Not based on what I have seen.
    So then, why? See above.

    1. 1. Agree
      2. Mostly agree….some of the tests (but not enough) are of very good quality.
3.Agree (especially some of those in the south)

  2. Well this is very disheartening. Probably true and very sad.

The number of times in the past 3.5 years that I have said to myself “And I actually dared wonder – how bad could it REALLY get during this 4 year tenure?” I will say that in that way this administration has exceeded even my expectations. I can’t believe they just opted “out” of any Federal leadership or effective response on this pandemic and somehow, they are getting away with it.

I also still cling to a marginal hope that I will still wake up shortly – it will be late October of 2016, and I will say to Joe – “I can’t believe the nightmare I just had…”

    1. Everybody follow the bouncing ball and sing along!
      You know the tune!

      O
      Hey! Hey! Donny-J
How many grandmas did you kill today?
      Hey! Hey! Donny-J
How many grandpas did you kill today?

      1. Mama with a very deep sign, I wish it were just a bad dream…..

        SClarke…..so terribly real. And sad.

      1. Very close to criminal.. Rep Boyle is right. It should be investigated for criminal and unethical behavior. At the very least. But nothing will be done. It would be trump approved and the right has a brotherhood that believes the end…..no matter the consequences…justifies the means.

  3. The 2020 Boston Marathon (actual race) has been cancelled. There will be a virtual race and celebrations.

  4. Baseball get your act together and play. This is so STUPID that they are arguing about money when we lost over 100,000 people to this virus and close to 40 million people unemployed and worried how there going to pay bills and put food on the table. Come to your senses Major League Baseball and get this done.

  5. I agree with you, JJ. Baseball was struggling as a sport, and the salary structure may completely collapse once the TV contracts are no longer re-upped. I suspect they won’t be, or for much less money. It’s very short-sighted of the union, players, and union to be bickering at this point.

American sports can learn a thing or two from Europe where soccer leagues have either restarted or are about to recommence. 1. It’s certainly possible to have professional sports without fans in attendance, provided there is sufficient testing of players and staff. 2. Leagues can restart a few days after they’ve been given the go-ahead. There’s no need to give each league a 3 to 4 week training period. Come on. These are professional athletes. If they weren’t preparing to play again, that’s their fault. In Spain, for example, training will be permitted the first week of June and on the 8th of June the matches commence. In Germany they basically had 2 days to train before the first matches a couple of weeks ago.

I am not thrilled with the early decision on the Boston marathon. I understand it to a certain extent. Certainly, a regular marathon would be off the table. But, how about an event in which the elite runners – who adore the Boston marathon – participate. No crowds permitted.

    1. Meant to say “very short-sighted for the owners, players, and unions to be bickering at this point.”

    2. I have to disagree with you regarding the Boston Marathon, Joshua. There is no way to police 26.2 miles of social distancing. With the entire world here, it would be one 26.2-mile “petri dish”.

The way our economy is going, we will be lucky just to have all businesses (large and small) back in operation in September, let alone a major sporting event.

      1. I also fear that local Christmas tree lightings may very well be in jeopardy. It will certainly depend on that potential second Covid-19 wave if crowds would be allowed to gather and watch in person.

        1. I think that’s getting a little ahead of the game. I’ve loved how Baker handles things. I’m not so much a fan of how Marty is doing it though – he give me the impression he wants to cancel everything through 2021 at this point.

  6. I think when it comes to baseball the owners and players will get this together. It would be bad for baseball if there the only sport not playing when the other sports have returned or will return at some point in July. Stop airing the dirty laundry out in public and no one who lost someone to Covid19 or is unemployed is feeling sorry for millionaire players and billionaire owners.

    1. This is fascinating. I will send to my friend who works at the marathon yearly with his wife. What struck me most was the wording. It is subtle. I’ve mentioned here I’m typing my moms 1937 journal. But there is a similar formality without being formal to the wording. I suspect that may not make a lot of sense but to me it was a time when folks looked on things just a bit differently…in a good way.

      Thank you for this

  7. Philip, you’re probably right about this.

I’ve just been thinking that if there’s a way to do certain events safely it would be nice to hold them. That includes Christmas lighting, which I attend most years.

These are really difficult decisions for mayors, governors, and other officials. Of course, part of the problem is our lack of containment of the virus. The improvement in many states is too small to meaningfully change guidelines.

Today’s numbers of new cases (>22k) and deaths (>1,200) remind us of our lack of containment. Yesterday’s numbers of deaths were close to 1,600, while cases were around 20.5k. New cases in Europe are really dwindling – and have been for weeks – ours are only gradually declining for the most part. I’m still hoping the hot weather crushes the virus. But, it’s not doing that in South America, even in places that are quite warm. So, who knows.

    1. As I think most know, we have a tree in Macs memory on Sutton common. This year, I’d like to do another for all of Macs and my families. I also like to send enough for someone who might want a tree but Can’t quite handle the extra expense. This is part of the very special tradition of Sutton Chain of lights.

But having been honored to be part of the first year (2019) amazing Sutton fourth parade committee, I learned that more planning goes into these events than I could have ever imagined. Sponsors….who just don’t have extra cash right now, vendors, police and fire details and participants. As far as the BOA, I suspect you could multiply what we do in our little town by a higher number than I can imagine. I am sure committees who plan Christmas festivities started planning a while ago.

My heart aches but it is far better we be here for the 2021 celebrations.

Just my two cents. And very possible I’m missing something
