High pressure sits atop our area now and made for a chilly but fairly calm start to the day, and it will be a pleasant day with not too much wind. Sunshine will become filtered much of the time through a veil of high cloudiness which is the northern reaches of the cloud deck associated with Isaias, which came ashore on the Gulf Coast last night as a category 2 hurricane. It has weakened quickly since then, already in the process before landfall due to strong wind shear, and of course typical overland weakening adding to that. The remains of this system, in mid latitude altered form, will bring heavier clouds into our region during Sunday and a batch of rain arriving during the afternoon, peaking in the evening and nighttime, and ending during Monday. An elongation of the upper low associated with the remains of this system means that showers may linger a little longer into Monday, though I am not expecting a steady rainfall that day. Partial clearing should be underway enough so that breaks of sun are possible before that day is over. A quick follow-up trough in the northern jet stream will approach and move into our region on Tuesday, bringing back plenty of cloud cover and some rainfall, likely showery in nature. There may be enough instability with this system to trigger a few thunderstorms. It all exits Wednesday with the return of dry weather, accompanied by a cool breeze.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>TODAY: Sun becoming filtered by high clouds. Highs 61-68.
