Monday was a generally nice day despite plentiful cloudiness, and Tuesday was mainly cloudy and showery, with heavier showers moving in toward the end of the day for most locations. The problem with both days were strong and gusty southwest to south winds, which resulted in scattered damage and power outages.

A cold front is moving west to east through the region this evening and moisture will continue to flow northward along it, continuing the rain for most areas into the overnight hours. But as cold air works in, we’ll see a mix/change to sleet/snow from west to east, making it just about into the Boston area before the precipitation exits before the line really makes it any further to the southeast. Areas along and west of I-95 may see a coating to locally 1 inch of snow (especially higher elevations). All of this will clear offshore by dawn on Wednesday, which will turn out bright, cool, and windy. High pressure building in will make for a cold Wednesday night / Thursday morning as winds drop off under a clear sky. Thursday will continue to be cool, though the sun will feel nice, since there will be less wind. High pressure will hang on Friday which will start sunny but it will start to lose grip later in the day when clouds begin to increase.

Looking ahead to the weekend, which includes Easter for many, and is a long weekend as well for some as Monday is Patriots Day or Marathon Monday, it looks like low pressure will pass through the region Saturday with some wet weather, and may be fast enough that we start to clear late. Sunday looks mostly fair but some gusty wind and areas of clouds may be a factor as low pressure intensifies while moving away and cold air aloft allows clouds to pop up. Monday should start sunny but end with increasing clouds as high pressure tries to hold off approaching low pressure. That area of low pressure will get closer Tuesday which should turn cloudy with eventual wet weather arriving.

Forecast for southeastern New England…

OVERNIGHT: Cloudy with rain then a mix/change to sleet/snow from west to east from around midnight to around 5AM from west of I-95 into the I-95 corridor, but precipitation ending before changing over in southeastern MA. Snow accumulation of a coating to locally 1 inch where a changeover occurs. Lows by morning upper 20s hilly areas of north central MA and south central NH, 30s elsewhere. Wind W 10-20 MPH with higher gusts.

WEDNESDAY: Clearing at dawn, then mostly sunny. Highs middle 40s to around 50. Wind NW 15-25 MPH with higher gusts.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Clear. Lows from the lower 20s inland valleys to middle 30s immediate coast and urban centers. Wind light N.

THURSDAY: Mostly sunny – few high clouds. Highs around 50.
