  1. TK, you mentioned Hampton Beach. I think most beach activity is fine. It’s outdoors. There’s a breeze. So long as there’s some distance between people and groups, I think transmission will be very low. It’s the indoor dining I worry about. Not so much if it’s at 25-50% capacity, but if it’s 100% capacity, different story.

  2. Boston Public Schools will begin on September 21 and start off with remote learning. May go hybrid later depending on citywide case results.

The BTU president is very pleased at going remote. Teachers won this time.

  3. Last day here in the Outer Banks as I just posted on the weather blog. I wasn’t sure what to expect down here with regard to COVID measures but in general things are pretty much the same here as in New England. Restaurants with plenty of outdoor seating and indoor seating at 50 percent capacity. Everyone in the shops, restaurants and grocery stores wearing masks. We also did a dolphin boat tour In Nags Head and a wild horse Safari tour in Corolla and were required to masks in both although we did see a couple of the other tour trucks that had people on them with no masks.

    1. Glad you had a nice time. My NC relatives are all trump supporters. My Merrill Lynch guy an others I know in SC are not. I MLs kids are hybrid with at home option.

  4. Also – Lots of Trump flags on houses, bumper stickers on pick up trucks and even a plane flew overhead on the beach with a Trump banner.

Move outside of the northeast and Trump has plenty of support. I think the election for President in November is going to be another tight one.

    1. I agree re tough road. A friend in Atlanta has 75 29-30 yr old music students. Males are still upset Bernie Is not running so won’t vote. Female counterparts are voting Biden. But messing with mail ins may make a difference

  5. Mark do you drive. How are regs with cleaning rentals. We were thinking Charleston next Summer but focus seems to be on Disney now. If anything

    1. We drive down here. It is about 9.5 hours with no traffic/stops. There is really no good place to fly into and you still end up with a decent drive. The rental house we stayed in was very nice but we brought cleaning supplies and wiped down everything in the kitchens and bathrooms, which is something I would always do independent of Covid. As far as rental cars, I’m sure the rental companies have pretty strict cleaning protocols between use.

  6. Mark, Outer Banks is a great place. A bit too warm for me this time of year. But still. Enjoy. Safe travels back to Connecticut.

And yes, Trump has a lot more support outside the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic and West Coast than the media will admit. Not just in North Carolina. Of all places, Minnesota, it’s a toss-up right now between Trump and Biden. Pennsylvania is within margin of error. These should be very worrisome signs for the Biden team. Minnesota hasn’t voted Republican in a presidential election in a while. We know what Pennsylvania did in 2016. While I personally would be very dismayed I increasingly think Trump will get re-elected.
