  1. An interesting story from Macs cousin. I have mentioned before that her son and his now wife are in chili where She is an ICU physician. Two weeks ago they were married and that afternoon he got sick. It was covid. After Sox days he was not improving. His wife knew how fast covid could go bad so spoke to a colleague and they started him on steroids. The next day he was able to get up and talk and at least function. He is definitely recovering with expected lasting symptoms.

Joshua, at the start of covid, it was believed steroids were not good. Do you know if this Is this something we have now begun using in the states.

  2. The nationwide numbers Sunday, Monday, and today are surprisingly good. I don’t know whether we can read into this a major downturn in cases and deaths, or a Labor Day weekend blip. Perhaps it reflects both. In any case, it appears to be a positive development.

    1. Let us know what tomorrow’s numbers are as they might tell a different story. If they are still good then maybe that means people actually behaved themselves over the holiday, at least for the most part.

  3. I would say the final challenge will be how people react to the “indoor” holidays of Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s. I imagine there could also be regular flu complications by then as well.

    1. Agree. ….And Halloween.

We always have a plan b. With six little kids, someone is usually sick with something. This year we have a plan C, D, E and probably to Z

  4. Philip, your point is well taken. Tomorrow will show higher numbers than today. But, the last 3 days have been very low compared to last week. Don’t know what to make of it yet. I’m hoping it’s a positive trend.

  5. Astra Zeneca’s trial has been halted, due to a serious adverse reaction (perhaps multiple). Notably, many were saying last week that AZ’s vaccine had the best chance of being the most effective.

This should give pause. My guess is the other trials will face similar issues. This is typical in vaccine development.

While we all hope for a smooth ride to a vaccine, we should know better. The president should not be grand-standing. He should be cautiously optimistic, but not “promise a vaccine by the end of the year.”

    1. Politics is definitely involved. Even though the president is expecting a vaccine by Election Day, Dr. Fauci now insists not until the end of the year.

      1. Yes, and end of the year is probably very optimistic.

Enrollment of diverse populations has presented a problem with all the current trials. Without sufficient numbers of blacks and hispanics the trial results will be less meaningful, as blacks and hispanics are the most impacted by Covid-19.

      2. Somewhere I believe Fauci said as you did …..best scenario EOY but more likely May-ish. But I don’t have a source so please take with a grain of salt.

    2. Thank you, Joshua. I didn’t know It had been halted. The president knows nothing other than grandstanding…..and to his “betterment.” I’m not sure how many times folks have to see proof to know this
