  1. In the Netherlands. 5 of 13 cardio-thoracic patients who last week tested positive forthe B117 variant have died. Dutch are very conservative in their C-19 death count, and only attribute C-19 as cause of death to 2 of the 5 patients. Not sure how they are so certain. In fact, if this is true (patients would have died anyway at the hospital), I for one would never go to that hospital for treatment of a heart condition! You can see how notoriously conservative the Dutch are in C-19 count when you observe excess mortality in the country since March 2020 and compare that to official C-19 deaths. Excess mortality is nearly 2x as high as the official C-19 count.

Nursing home in the Netherlands has a major outbreak of B117 (>100). Note, ALL residents had been vaccinated with their 1st dose more than 2 weeks ago. 2 have already died. Thankfully, most of the residents have mild symptoms – which indicates vaccine efficacy, albeit limited after just 1 shot.

Case numbers continue to decline in the Netherlands, due to strict lockdown and curfew. But, the hospitalization and ICU curves’ slopes are MUCH flatter. My conjecture is that it’s due to B117. So, fewer people are getting infected, which is good, but a higher percentage of those who are infected are getting severe symptoms. I expect something similar to show up here in the U.S., although that’s NOT a certainty given that our vaccination rollout, in spite of some bumps along the way, is considerably better than the rollout in the Netherlands or really any country on the European continent. I’m shocked at how poor the rollout is throughout most of Europe, except the UK.
