  1. Since we do not plan to close schools before Christmas, keeping them closed for two extra weeks after would make the most sense. So far I’m not sure if omicron is in the schools so if delta is spreading this badly in school, what will Omicron do?

  2. Covid-19 has a death rate of 1.6% in the U.S. – roughly 16x greater than the flu.

Joshua, how does that stack up in relative terms? Is it as horrific as it sounds?

  3. Indoor stadium last evening for the Pats Game.
I did NOT see very many masks, only one here and there.
The vast majority of fans were maskless!

    PATHETIC!

    1. TD Garden just instituted a mask mandate a couple days ago. Spectators have been maskless since the Celtics and Bruins season began. In fact, I thought I heard that there will be no more concessions for the rest of the season. Don’t quote me on that though.

      1. There are social host laws…I think they are vague and hard to enforce but it is curious

Social host liability laws impose civil and/or criminal penalties on individuals (social hosts) for underage drinking events held on property they own, lease, or otherwise control. Social host liability laws can exist at the state and/or local level.

      2. Part of the problem is that officials had given them permission
to do so. I blame them, including Biden. The messaging has
        been piss-poor.

  4. SNL was unable to have its regular Christmas show last night. There was no audience and with very few cast members. The guest host was Paul Rudd, who is now officially a 5th time host member. For the “entertainment” reruns from previous Christmas shows were shown, I believe.

  5. Biden is going to address the nation on Tuesday.

AFAIC though, I doubt that he’s likely going to say any more than what’s been said by the medical “experts” all over the media the past few days.

As long as it’s in the evening, I will certainly watch. ZZZZZ…

  6. Joshua, glad that your daughter is recovering. Hope once she recovers completely, no symptoms return. That’s the part of this virus that scares me. LONG Covid.

  7. Biden will announce that it’s time to stop looking at number of cases but rather illness levels.

We screwed our kids back in 2020 when choose to keep bars, restaurants open vs keeping schools open. Better not make that decision again. I can tell you that faith in public schools is waining. I can assure you this, we will pull our kids if they close again.

    1. Thanks Hadi. I’m working in a school right now, and hard as it is, I know we cannot close. The kids are not all right.

      1. I know it’s not easy for teachers for sure. But kids need ti be in school. Appreciate everything you do for them.

      2. There is a tremendous amount of stress for the kids. Numbers of those who need professional help are high. A friend and school admin compared today’s numbers to the past couple years. Kids are struggling with fear…..of the virus in general , of being isolated by not going to school and of being in school and watching friends and teachers test positive.

It is a catch 22. Hundreds a day are showing positive. They are at risk for long term and also psychological problems. They also expose others and increase overall numbers

It surely isn’t the best thing to do to close schools for all. But so far this year we have not come close to making close to the best choices. We had more time than needed to develop a plan for all. I doubt anyone doesn’t understand that we failed to address the needs of all and chose to address the needs of some.

Deb, thank you and all teachers and staff. I know this year is far worse than last, and last was very stressful. I am more than unhappy with the single minded way school was handled for this school year. And in that unhappiness, I too often forget to stress how very much respect and gratitude I have for teachers, administrators, staff and the entire public school system. You have gone far above and beyond for our children….as you always do.

  8. From the globe. I get they want Biden to speak up but how about baker ??

Tuesday is too late’: Health experts urge Biden to move faster amid Omicron threat
Amid fears that the Omicron variant will lead to soaring numbers of new cases and overwhelm hospitals, local health officials urged President Biden on Sunday to take stronger measures to get more people tested, vaccinated, and protected against the coronavirus threat.

Biden is due to speak Tuesday on the nation’s fight against COVID-19, but epidemiologists in Massachusetts had words of advice for the president.

They called for widely available rapid testing, better access to mRNA vaccines, which teach cells how to make a protein that triggers the body’s immune response, and stronger warnings about curtailing large indoor gatherings.
