  1. Report last night that Meatloaf died of Covid.
Although his vaccination status was unknown, he was
an active anti-mandate person. So, I’d say a good chance he
was not vaccinated, but not certain for sure.

  2. Denise Dewald was on target last night. I posted the comment just above each link. If you are able to read the comments, they have a bunch of great information also. I so agree with the first comment I saw by Dewald

“People have lost their damned minds”

“PSA: DO NOT TAKE YOUR MASK OFF INDOORS, even if there is no one else around.
The virus persists in the air for HOURS because #CovidIsAirborne
Only take your mask off outdoors, and preferably use an N95 mask.
Important potentially lifesaving thread. Please RT. 1/n”

“The # of times I’ve now heard a combo of headache, brain fog, & symptoms suggestive of sleep apnea from people with #Omicron or their bed partners. Had hoped this #CovidVariant was less neuroinvasive. Concerned that’s wrong. Worried about recurrent hypoxic episodes. #MedTwitter”

“In case you haven’t noticed, Covid surges worldwide seem to have occurred with a 4-5 month periodicity. This is the same period that it takes for the Covid immune response to significantly wane.. Will be interesting to see if this pattern continues”

Vicki comment and not part of the quote: Not Denise Dewald, but from a healthcare professional and important to remember when we decide to just let covid rip

“1 person’s mild COVID case led to:
    ☑️16 rescheduled clinic patients
    ☑️13 weekdays of no childcare
☑️2 COVID+ toddlers in our family
☑️1 exhausted COVID+ momma back to an overbooked virtual clinic tomorrow…

Each COVID+ case, no matter how mild the sx, has huge ripple effects.”

  3. Newfoundland and Labrador have done VERY well throughout the pandemic. Much better than the rest of Canada, in fact (and Canada has done much better than the U.S.). First, with strict mitigation measures in place pre-vaccines, along with contact tracing. And post-vaccine, they’ve achieved a very high vaccination rate, across the entire population. This includes very rural Labrador, by the way (a place I must visit in winter some time) and metropolitan areas like St. John’s (a place I’d like to live for a month or two to do some writing). The death rate in N&L is >20 times lower than the U.S.

  4. Yesterday’s death toll increased as several states added numbers: 3,896 Covid deaths, the 10th deadliest day of the whole pandemic and the deadliest since the pre-vaccination surge last winter.

Most of this death and misery was preventable. A defeatist attitude has left our most vulnerable susceptible (nursing home debacles continue – there is NO excuse for that), our vaccination and booster rate lagging BADLY (worse every day in terms of relative ranking) behind everyone else, and a default position of `we can’t do anything about it so let’s just let it rip as the show must go on, consequences be damned.’

  5. Lots of unknowns still about BA.2 – declared a “variant under investigation” by the British. It appears to be taking off in Scandinavia, France, Austria, and perhaps other countries as well. Danish researchers have noted that many of the sequenced samples are reinfections. People who got BA.1, maybe 6 weeks ago, and now have BA.2.

SARS-CoV-2 is exceptionally stealth. In the history of contagious viruses, mutations are of course common. But successful ones are not so common. And we’re now seeing successful mutations cropping up every few months. This concerns me. Perhaps BA.2 is not an issue. Right now we just don’t know its properties. But, it’s quite possible another sub-variant or variant appears that practically evades all the tools we’ve got. People dismiss this as science fiction. But, it’s not, given how SARS-CoV-2 has evolved. Now, I do NOT think that this would wipe out civilization. Clearly, given the case fatality rate – even among unvaccinated – that’s not going to happen.

  6. As of this week, 197,244 COVID-19 vaccine doses have been reported as wasted to the Massachusetts Immunization Information System.
Of the 7.57 million total doses shipped to date so far during the pandemic, it represents a vaccine wastage percentage of 2.6%.
According to health officials, there are a number of reasons why vaccination sites may have to mark doses as wasted, from a cracked vial or an error diluting the vaccine to a freezer malfunction, to name a few.
