  1. Last night I spoke with my brother in law in east Bay Area of San Francisco. He said they are in a bit of a Covid surge our that way.

    1. Nationwide we’re definitely rising, according to Topol: “With the US now BA.2.12.1 variant dominant, yesterday there were over 263,000 new confirmed cases reported and 1,247 more people hospitalized for Covid.” We also had nearly 700 recorded deaths, with 9 states not reporting.

  2. Thinking of quitting my Forbes gig as there is almost no money in freelance writing. Earn about $5 an hour, so it’s not worth it. Nevertheless, I try to write on topics that have societal impact. For example, today’s two articles – which I’ve been working on for days – concern drug pricing and abortion pills, respectively.

  3. Monkeypox has mutated in the past year or so, according to the latest reports. One scientific study suggests these are mutations of the virus that normally would occur over a 50 year span. The big question is, why? The CDC is not on top of this like the English authorities are. No surprise here. CDC isn’t on top of anything. Can’t entirely blame them as their resources are stretched thin.

    1. Should monkeypox become the next Covid-19, I believe there is already a vaccine for it. Correct?

    2. I have been reading a few reliable medical folks in the past few weeks who also think it has mutated.

      Sighhhhhh

  4. School numbers are down a good amount again. 6,106 for students and 1,941 for staff. I’d sure hoped they would be even lower this week but will take lower numbers any day.
