  1. Important to reiterate that monkeypox will NOT be anything remotely close to Covid-19. Transmissibility is far too low for that. This said, it bears watching. Any time that mutations evolve this quickly and a virus becomes more transmissible than before, public health officials must take notice.

      1. If cases increase, I think I’ll see if there is a blood test showing whether a person has any immunity still existing from the vaccine

  2. June 21 – The date that Pfizer rolls out their Covid-19 vaccine for those under 5 years of age.

  3. Here’s the monkeypox meter: https://www.monkeypoxmeter.com/

As you can see, there’s steady growth but NOT exponential by any stretch of the imagination. Still, I think the U.S. caseload is much greater than 23. Surveillance and testing are minimal compared to, say, the UK. I suspect that in the coming two or three weeks several hundred new cases will emerge in the U.S.

      1. I wouldn’t say very worrisome, as it doesn’t transmit easily. But, this is not something to take lightly. It’s a serious disease. Several patients – including at least one in the U.S. – are being prescribed smallpox anti-virals.

  4. There are some very twisted individuals in politics. This man rises to the top along with Abbott

    From nyt

“ Special Olympics lifted its Covid vaccine requirement for athletes and staff after Florida officials threatened a $27.5 million fine over the mandate. Gov. Ron DeSantis, who has blocked vaccine and mask mandates, criticized the requirement on Friday.”

  5. The ascent of the current wave was steeper than the descent. The current caseload – close to 3,000 confirmed cases – is too high for comfort. I had expected a steeper decline by now. Test positivity actually went up a bit in the past 2 days. It’s at 7.73%. Hospitalizations have come down from their peak but are still at a very elevated 665. The steady drumbeat of deaths – 12 today, and on most days that’s typical – is disconcerting. https://www.boston.com/news/coronavirus/2022/06/03/mass-reports-2975-new-covid-19-cases-12-new-deaths/?

  6. Just read that the U.S. – the entire country – has only performed 120 monkeypox tests! So far, 25 have tested positive. With a test positivity percentage that high you know there are many more cases. Plus, it’s been confirmed by the CDC that the U.S. has two concurrent monkeypox virus outbreaks – two different types of monkeypox. We need to be doing more testing surveillance. Seriously, it’s best to take precautions now rather than wait for a problem later.
