  1. Thanks TK.

I heard on the news this morning that Moderna now has a vaccine that has 8x the strength of the current vaccines. This would be an annual shot for Covid-19 just like the flu shot, instead of every few months.

Joshua, could this be truly the beginning of the end of this nearly 3 year pandemic? 🙂

    1. Thanks for alerting me to the Moderna booster, which specifically addresses Omicron sub-variants. This could be very important this fall and winter, especially for the vulnerable among us.

Globally the pandemic is waning and has been for a while. With worldwide deaths now below 2,000 a day we’re getting closer to endemic mode. Not there yet, but perhaps we will be soon. I’m forever hopeful. This said, our baseline level of infections is too high for comfort, and could easily trigger a virus comeback this autumn here, and earlier in the Southern states. Florida, for example, is already seeing a surge of infection, a lot of it BA.5.

    2. Since I personally have been on Pfizer boosters since the beginning, I would have preferred that particular company had come up with it instead. Oh well, as long as it works and is just as safe.

  2. Very clear guidance from the UK on monkeypox diagnostics and precautions. See link below. I wish our CDC could be equally clear. There is no need for panic or fear, but it’s vital that we’re aware of the silent spread of the disease, be mindful of what to look for, and take the right precautions in healthcare settings. https://www.gov.uk/guidance/monkeypox-diagnostic-testing

    1. I find that there is just so many different people saying different stuff. It’s frustrating. I’ve become very cautious on what to believe. I think that is what’s happened with most. I could be wrong. If you will the whole Covid opinions and or facts have become “mucked up”.

      1. The good part is that we know the facts. Without question. It is like anything else. Facts are easy to unearth if you do your due diligence. Numbers do not lie….unless they are manipulated. And we are manipulating. But we know that also so adjust accordingly.

Fact is that it is the loudest voices that are for some odd reason driving the decisions made ….facts be damned

  3. Olive, I agree with you. It is frustrating. I try to provide facts without being alarmist or denialist. I’m in the middle. There is good news, and I do report it. We’re on a downward sloping path worldwide regarding cases, hospitalizations, and deaths. Could this reverse itself this fall? Yes. But, there’s a lot of immunity out there from vaccinations and infections. I really don’t think we’ll ever be back to levels we saw this past winter or in the winter of 2021, or even spring of 2020 in the Northeast. On monkeypox, I’m cautiously optimistic this will be contained. But, I do report on issues I believe we have with public health in this country.

  4. Vicki, I agree with your post. I do think politics gets in the way. That’s where manipulation comes into play.

    1. We are at the point where many choose to believe what they want to hear rather than what they hear. Not just Covid, but in every corner. We are in very deep trouble.
