Sunday July 3 2022 Forecast (7:50AM)

DAYS 1-5 (JULY 3-7)

Short and sweet update here. Cold front has pushed offshore. Dew points have been lowering from northwest to southeast and this trend will continue today. We start with an extensive high cloud shield over the region but this will gradually clear away and the limited sun will become brighter by midday onward with just a few fair-weather cumulus popping up to decorate the sky, so it does turn out to be a wonderful Sunday, and this great weather will continue through the Monday Independence Day holiday too. Look for some coastal sea breezes though as we’ll have fairly light wind. Our only unsettled weather day in this 5-day forecast is Tuesday, which will feature clouds and a shower chance as a disturbance moves in from the northwest. This is much more quickly and of shorter-duration than medium range guidance had this just a few days ago, so here’s another example about what us meteorologists say about trusting guidance too much too far out and using it wisely. High pressure returns by midweek with fair weather and pleasant air.

TODAY: Limited sun morning. Brighter sun and a few clouds afternoon. Highs 80-87. Dew point 50s Boston north and west, 60s elsewhere, with a lowering trend. Wind W 5-15 MPH.

TONIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows 60-67. Dew point below 60. Wind W up to 10 MPH.

MONDAY (INDEPENDENCE DAY): Mostly sunny. Highs 81-88, cooler some coastal areas. Dew point below 60. Wind NW up to 10 MPH but some coastal sea breezes possible.

MONDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear to partly cloudy. Lows 58-65. Dew point lower 50s. Wind NW under 10 MPH.

TUESDAY: Mostly cloudy. Showers likely and a chance of thunderstorms, especially afternoon. Highs 76-83. Dew point rising into 60s. Wind S 5-15 MPH.

TUESDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy with a chance of showers/thunderstorms evening. Partly cloudy overnight. Patchy fog. Lows 60-67. Dew point lower 60s. Wind variable up to 10 MPH.

WEDNESDAY: Partly sunny. Highs 78-85, coolest coast. Dew point near 60. Wind variable up to 10 MPH with coastal sea breezes.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy. Lows 60-67. Dew point below 60. Wind variable up to 10 MPH.

THURSDAY: Partly sunny. Highs 78-85, coolest coast. Dew point under 60. Wind variable up to 10 MPH with coastal sea breezes.

DAYS 6-10 (JULY 8-12)

Limited rainfall chances to probably one disturbance passing by mid period. Low humidity and near normal temperatures to start the period, possibly replaced by warmer and more humid weather later in the period.

DAYS 11-15 (JULY 13-17)

High pressure in control most of this period. Near to above normal temperatures, mostly dry weather with continued limited rain chances.

    1. This section tends to give me chills. This man had a foresight that seems to go well past ordinary.

“I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated, by succeeding Generations, as the great anniversary Festival. It ought to be commemorated, as the Day of Deliverance by solemn Acts of Devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with Pomp and Parade, with Shews, Games, Sports, Guns, Bells, Bonfires and Illuminations from one End of this Continent to the other from this Time forward forever more.”

      1. They are now out and about by 7:00 and there is a fourth that is hiding in this picture. And I was upset when mosquitoes kept me inside at night 😈

        1. Oh Vicki! I haven’t seen any this year yet. I did take my dog out Friday night before going to bed at 230am and got swarmed all over my legs with red ants! They have been awful this year.

Hope the skunks find a new home soon.

          1. Thanks North. We are trying to figure how to encourage them to relocate

Red ants??? Fire ants? That is awful. Were you bitten?

  1. ECMWF check in from 6 days ago – no 100 degree temps on Friday in SNE. No 2-4” rainfalls and / or all day rain on Saturday.

    1. Actually, the thunderstorms did drop 2-3″ of rain on the Cape and Islands over the weekend, right about where the ECMWF had the bullseye.

    1. I’ve had that happen on my phone a few times. But it isn’t happening currently…
      Hopefully that clears itself up!

  2. Good afternoon and thank you TK.

Wasn’t around this morning as I was out fishing. The water is very low in the Charles River. :0

      1. it was nice being out there. A bunch of small fish, 21 blue gill, 5 largemouth bass. Just missed a much bigger bass, but it got off.

Saw a beautiful blue heron in flight. That is an awesome sight.
        🙂

        Thank you.

        1. We have one of those at Horn Pond that likes to show off by fishing at the dam and flying close by to us. I have some video from a recent visit there I’ll post soon. 🙂

          1. Cool. I love seeing them fly with those long legs under their body. Pretty spectacular.

  3. North……are you still reading. I have solved both of our problems. I found out skunks eat red ants.

  4. Thanks TK.

Only 0.4” of rain in the gauge yesterday and all of that came from the loud thunderstorm that moved through around 4am early Saturday morning. We were completely dry aside from a few sprinkles yesterday afternoon and evening.

Had great weather in the White Mtns last week. Dry and pleasant aside from a few showers Monday am and Wednesday evening. The gypsy moths are absolutely ravaging the trees up there though. Looks more like late winter or early spring in most areas with the trees mostly stripped of their leaves. Also passed some major tree carnage hiking in Crawford Notch after the forest fires there in May. Saw areas of trees pretty much burned black and devoid of leaves on the loop hike we did near Arethusa Falls.

It’s still pretty dry up there overall. We kayaked on the Saco one day and had to pick our kayaks up in a couple spots to get through.

    1. Also hiked Mt Jefferson on Wednesday and the snow patch on its east slope is still there! Pretty impressive that it made it to July.

  5. Morning temperatures have consistently been in the 50’s for much of June. And I see forecast out to mid July with more mornings in the 50’s. Sorta unusual. Usually by this time of year I’m waking up to 60+ degrees. I usually get up between 5-6am.

    1. It’s not unusual at all. The average low temperature in the Keene NH area is 55 in June and 58 in July.
