  1. Thanks TK.

There will be a new Covid-19 booster vaccine for the latest variant coming in a few weeks. It is expected to be approved by the CDC and FDA.

Also, there is new evidence that monkeypox can be transmitted from humans to animals including pets.

  2. CDC overhaul is imminent, as a result of admitted errors during Covid-19.

Personally, I like Rochelle Walensky. I think she’s a good person, and also very smart. BUT, I do not think she’s equipped to be CDC Director. Her messaging skills are sub-par. She’s also not good at explaining how SHE could have done a better job, not just CDC. I am not accusing her of being a conceited person. I sincerely believe she is not. But, I think she could have done better by leveling with people, explaining her thought processes – even when they turned out wrong – and advancing a consistent set of recommendations. It’s a tough job.

    1. Excellent comment. Having followed her throughout, I’d agree for the reasons you gave.

Do you have anyone in mind. I don’t know who is eligible. I like Eric Topol. Not gottlieb. But there are a bunch out there I know nothing about.

  3. Joshua, could that latest vaccine potential I mentioned above be a game changer for the fall into the winter? Maybe ending this pandemic once and for all?

    1. Many that I’ve heard think this pandemic will wane closer to the time (within 16 months of the Presidential election in Nov 2024. I do not believe this but the far right believe this imo. Im thinking politics is poking its ugly head again is frustrating. Why both sides can’t meet in the middle is beyond me. Why wouldn’t we just want the pandemic over now? I believe the sooner the better.

    1. Unfortunately, you’re not. I really don’t understand this, at least not for those who are >65 or immunocompromised. They should be getting free (government-purchased) boosters until we’re at a more acceptable level of hospitalizations and deaths. We’re not there yet.

I remain hopeful that we’ll be on a downward trend soon in terms of deaths. We’re already moving in the right direction with respect to hospitalizations. I also hope that sub-variants or a totally different variant do not mess things up.

  4. Olive, you’re correct that politics has gotten in the way in terms of our response. That’s unfortunate, and it’s happen with both Administrations, though to a lesser degree with Biden, in my opinion. I don’t think a perpetual pandemic helps anyone at this point, so I don’t believe it’ll be an electoral issue in 2024. Nor do I think we’ll be in a pandemic then, or at any time during the presidential election cycle which begins in mid to late 2023.
