    1. She should be more concerned with 450 Covid deaths per day. If it wasn’t for Joshua, I wouldn’t know that much as I guess the medical community has deemed it acceptable and just all part of the endemic. Nothing more to see here!

As for the Queen, I only wish I could watch her funeral next Monday but I have to work. Oh well.

      1. I agree. I think she is very knowledgeable when it comes to Covid. But she has tweeted countless times about the attention paid to the passing of an amazing woman.

        1. I think that her point is we cover the Queen’s passing to an extent that may be unwarranted. There are of course plenty of things that are happening around the world that have gotten placed on the back burner a bit. This includes Covid-19, Ukraine, inflation, and other issues.

But, I never like it when a person like Dr. Dewald resorts to coarse language or ad hominem attacks when discussing a person’s death. The royal family is clearly something we Americans are interested in. I don’t think networks are shoving this down our throats. I think that this is demand-induced.

          1. I’m sure that is her point. She said she gets her news from the 6:00 news. And now she can’t get her news because of coverage. But she has posted endlessly and frankly I rarely watch news and somehow manage to find information.

She is a pediatrician. If this is an example she sets for her kids, then that is a shame.

  1. Ken Starr has died. He was 76. The details surrounding his death are murky. He looked very fit the last time I saw him on TV. They say he died during “complications from surgery.” I hope it wasn’t a botched surgery. That would be terrible.

I do have a terrible fear of doctors, hospitals, and many things medical. Totally irrational, I know. And here I am, a health economist! Weird, right! Part of it has to do with the fact that I come from a family of doctors who incessantly talked about death and disease at the dinner table. I hated that. And, when I was little my father brought me to his work at the hospital (Peter Bent Brigham) and in a lab. I was so frightened of hospitals (still am). Scared of becoming sick like the people I saw. I still have nightmares about hospitals and illness at least once a month. These are dreams in which I am so frightened I wake up all sweaty and sometimes yelling. If my son is here he comes in the room and calms me down.

    1. According to AP News, Ken Starr had been struggling with his health:
“Starr died at a hospital Tuesday of complications from surgery, according to his former colleague, attorney Mark Lanier. He said Starr had been hospitalized in an intensive care unit in Houston for about four months.”

      1. Thanks, SClarke. I didn’t see this till after I commented. Sounds eerily familiar but then is probably not at all the same

The hospital said my SIL died from complication from surgery also. 🙄

    2. My sister in law who just passed away after seven months in hospital died from the hospital acquired pneumonia that recurred multiple times and lack of proper treatment. It doesn’t happen often but it does happen. Her death had nothing to do with the reason she was hospitalized.

  2. Thanks for letting me know, SClarke. I thought I had seen Starr on TV fairly recently. But it must have been a few years ago.

  3. Vicki, I am very sorry to hear about your sister-in-law’s passing. She really went through a lot of suffering.

    1. No. I know Dr. Prasad. He’s a brilliant oncologist. But, his Covid minimizing has done a lot of damage. The doctor who cited him – Cifu – is a buddy of Prasad’s. I used to follow Prasad, but no longer do. I find his brand of contrarianism really off-putting.

I’m all for a debate on the merits of masks, but in many healthcare settings masks were worn long before Covid.

      1. Wow. I am shocked.

I was at the dermatologist today for my yearly check. She told me the seven doctors in her practice and all of her medical acquaintances feel masks should remain indefinitely in medical offices.
