No Significant Rain In Sight

2:30AM

Broad low pressure will continue to control the weather in Southern New England through Thursday, before high pressure takes over for the end of the week.

The placement of the low pressure area, to the north, is keeping the region on the drier side, with no significant rain to lessen the high fire danger. With a warm-up expected to accompany the late week high pressure building in, fire danger may increase even further.

Forecast for eastern MA, RI, and southern NH…

THROUGH WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Variably cloudy. A slight chance of light rain showers. Daytime highs middle 50s to around 60. Overnight lows upper 30s to lower 40s. Wind NW-W averaging 10-15 MPH with higher gusts during the day, lighter during the night.

THURSDAY: Mostly cloudy with scattered showers. High 50-55. Wind N 10-15 MPH.

FRIDAY: Mostly sunny. Low 37. High 58.

SATURDAY: Mostly sunny. Low 37. High 64.

SUNDAY: Partly sunny. Low 44. High 66.

MONDAY – PATRIOTS DAY: Mostly cloudy. Chance of showers. Low 51. High 68.

  1. Thanks TK !

Welcome to August equivalent sunshine, August 31st to be specific. Though dry, there’s been a lot of clouds lately masking the strength of the midday sun.

  2. Thanks, TK!

Sue, welcome! I was very busy yesterday so I didn’t get a chance to post but I did glance at the blog.

So far it’s a strange spring – it was a strange winter and things are popping up little by little, or in some places a lot. But it’s so dry – usually the lawns are really green.

These clouds are such a tease, you hope that they would at least do something – like produce rain! Although I suppose if we got more sun it could enhance the fire danger.

    1. Thank you so much Rainshine! I had stumbled upon the BZ blog a couple of years ago and enjoyed it so much until it got out of control. I was actually a tad jealous when I heard all of the people I considered to be the “experts” on the blog had their own blog. I was thrilled when I finally found it. As I said, I am certainly no meterologist but am amazed at how much I am starting to learn from the good people that post here. It is a pleasure and an honor to join this community!

      1. No problem, Sue! I started on the BZ blog a few yrs. ago, too. Don’t worry about not being a meteorologist – everyone here has different areas of knowledge but we are all equal in that we all have a love of the weather. And any observation you have or information regarding the weather is always welcome. Some of the people here also like to talk about gardening and sports – you have probably noticed that too. And as I have said before – it is an honor to be part of this blog! Again, welcome, and looking forward to your posts! 🙂

      2. Sue welcome from me too – I found this blog the same way you did and absolutely love being part of it. Great people here and TK is incredible.

        1. Thanks Vicki. Yes, TK always amazed me on the BZ blog. Although, sometimes he would bring me a little down when I got wrapped up in the TV mets calling for a storm and then TK would bring it into perspective and we’d learn we weren’t getting that monster storm we were expecting. 🙂 Definitely happy to have found this site and look forward to riding out the weather with all you fine people!

  3. There’s a large meadow-like field near my house that a public works truck was spraying water into last night. I don’t think there was a fire but my best guess was they were trying to soak the ground and brush to prevent a fire. Not a bad idea as there are many neighborhoods in that area. Made me feel a little better but unfortunately they can’t do that in every area where they think one might start, just too much ground to cover.

    1. Thank you Hadi! I am stuck at work but hoping to get out soon to take in some of that fresh air. At least my two little boys will be outside at their Nana’s today enjoying the nice weather.

  4. Speaking of the WBZ blog, there are changes in the making. There will be a process in which registration and log in will be required to view comments and post. I have mixed feelings regarding viewing but something had to be done to control the trolls.

My bet is there will be fewer comments over on WBZ about our conversations here on this blog and will free TK from having to decide on any major changes.

As of this posting…WBZ is still off the air. Am I the only one here with an antenna? 🙁

    1. Philip – it’s already proved ineffective on Keller. There is a person (same I suspect using my name on weather) who has already grabbed the names of one other poster and is posting moronic comments using his name. So far the new system will not stop using another’s name but then when people have nothing better to do, nothing will really stop them anyway.

There are of course ways the real poster can be identified too 🙂

  5. The trusty euro has some rain next Thu, driving around today if I didn’t know what time of yr it was I would totally guess mid May, it’s crazy how colorful it is here, hope everyone’s enjoying early spring. Temp is 55.6 degrees

    1. Hi Charlie – I went to my daughter’s three mornings last week – about a 45 minute drive to the south central part of MA – and was amazed at how colorful everything is. I am convinced it is even more so than normal.

      Temp just hit 61 here

        1. It looks same here and I was in Cambridge and Belmont on Easter Sunday and was same there. Just beautiful.

          1. The 2 trees in my backyard were bare for only 4 months, they lost there leaves a month late and now is transitioning from buds to leaves a month early

    1. Not sold on the 80 right now. I can see how it could happen, but I don’t know if that scenario takes place. About to examine some guidance I have not had a chance to look at yet.

      1. I have upper 60s for Sunday as there will be clouds around and we will have a south wind, which passes over the water.
Monday doesn’t have a shot at 80 degrees with the upper levels cooling to 0 C, and the GFS 2m temps aren’t warm enough. The EURO shows 80s for Monday, but I think that may be too warm. We will see what happens!

        1. I’d be happy with some mild air on Sunday. I have been promising my boys I would take them to Castle Island so perhaps that will be the day. Hope it isn’t too warm on Monday for the marathoners.

          1. Sounds like a nice day trip. It’s 60 but a chilly wind today. Sat on deck for a bit but had to finally come in to get warm. I don’t dare have a fire in the fire pit 🙁

      1. Hahahaha – me too. I have a conf call with client in ski country. I’m wondering why I didn’t just travel to site

  6. Pete B has taken out the 80 degrees on his 7 day, currently has 76 on Sunday which I think is still a bit warm. He has 75 for Monday, which again I think could too warm.

  7. I was watching a story on the east coast fires. Last year 58% of the country was covered with snow in winter and this year only 19%. Turns out the snow does help more than comparable amount of rain since it seeps in over a period of time.

  8. So the mix of last year record snows and that march that had the record flooding lead to a leak in the pool. The pool guy is coming tomorrow to find the leak and possibly fix it tomorrow. The amount of money that its going to take is about half of what it would have been durring the summer months. So if you guys have pool problems do it in april

    1. Oh now that is depressing. We had a drip in our bathroom faucet and it added 1/3 to our quarterly bill. Hate to think what a pool leak adds.

      1. Soooooo as I was saying if you want to invite us (that’s what the soooo was for) I think it would be fair to charge an admittance fee 🙂

  9. I think I’ll open up on Sunday. It’s usually mid may before we use it, but I need to get the filter pump going and get some chlorine in it. Once the water hits 60 or so, algae can start. Takes a week to clear a pea green pool 🙁

    1. we usually do not open it until early may to mid may but this year we are thinking about just keeping it open and putting the solar cover over it. We are also redoing the patio that is next to the porch and making alot of garden space around it.

  10. It’s a battle between euro and GFS for Monday. GFS swings a cold front Sunday night and the euro Monday night.
