Rise & Fall

8:26AM

This is really only a quick update again, but there is some good news in it. Timing is such that we may make it to 70 in parts of the region on Tuesday before cool air returns. The warmer air responsible for the shot at 70+ is moving in today and will cause some cloudiness as it comes in via a weak warm front. This will be followed by a weak cold front that may bring a rain shower tonight but never really clears the region before heading back by late Monday night or early Tuesday to the north allowing a second, stronger warm push. A stronger cold front will come through at midweek and will start a falling temperature trend and set up the possibility of unsettled weather later in the week upcoming. More on this later in The Week Ahead post this evening.

MONDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs around 60. Wind W to variable 5-15 MPH.

  1. Thanks TK , enjoy the walk !

Beautiful weather yesterday and I’m looking forward to the very nice weather the next 3 days.

Maybe a little beach time after school Tuesday …… especially with a late afternoon low tide, some of the sandier beaches will be accessible.

      1. If Nauset Beach in Orleans is any indication, you’ll probably see a huge change at Salisbury.

Nauset Beach used to have a wide beach to the high tide line, once you climbed down the dune. Not any longer, all that sand is gone and the high tide line is almost to the dune.

  2. Pretty chilly morning out there so far. Im wondering, with clouds moving in throughout the day, that it gets out of the 50s anywhere.

  3. Good Morning all.

I haven’t had much chance to check in lately.
Brutal day yesterday with bright sunshine and COLD.

It may very well reach 70 inland Tuesday, but will it at the coast? That is the
question. Right now, I’d say no, but We’ll see. 😀

Seems quite nice out there now.

    Have a great day. 😀

    1. I think it does Tuesday at Logan and ………. tomorrow, 10 miles west of the coastline is going to be surprisingly warm as well.

  4. I think Thursday has a chance to give everyone a taste of real spring weather. All about where the wind blows and where the fronts set up! Definitely a fun week to forecast here in New England.

I believe another cracking of the arctic sea ice event is taking place. The first one started in late Feb and lasted thru early March.

Look towards the last half of the image. The landmass of Alaska is at the bottom left.

Check out the almost spider web like look to the ice. Its a testament to how thin and brittle the ice cover is. Its expansive in its cracking and there’s a huge crack developing up the center of the photo.

I wont be surprised by any new record of low ice that may occur this summer.

  6. WBZ Weather

Interesting week for weather across the nation. Severe storms with possible tornadoes in the midwest. A winter storm for the Northern plains. Unseasonal warmth in the East 60’s & 70’s. A push of cold from Canada will collide with the spring warmth to form a stalled front with waves of rain along the front. This will eventually break down the brief spring warm up for us by week’s end. Enjoy it the warmth while it lasts!

  7. From NWS re: High temps for today:

IF THE AIRMASS WERE TO MIX TO 850 MB THIS WOULD SUPPORT
MAX TEMPS WELL IN THE 50S…POSSIBLY NEAR 60 IN SPOTS. BUT MIXING
DEPTHS ARE EXPECTED TO REACH A LITTLE LOWER THAN 850 MB SO MAX
TEMPS IN THE 50S SHOULD SUFFICE.

    1. Low 50’s at that. I think most will have reached their high temps for the day in the next hour or so, then downhill once clouds take over if they haven’t already.

  8. 51.7 in north attleboro, partly to mostly cloudy, nice day, expecting a high around 55 and a low in the mid 30’s tonight 🙂

  9. Maybe on Tuesday the giraffes will make their 2013 debut at Franklin Park Zoo. They can come outside only if temps are 65+. There is a new addition in the name of “Henrietta” who was born last November 27, 2012. The parents are Beau and Jana who have been at the zoo for nearly 10 years I believe. Beau when he first arrived was diagnosed with giraffe wasting syndrome. If I am not mistaken Beau is the first giraffe in the world to be cured of that disease.

Most years these giraffes don’t come outside until April but sometimes as early as March if it is warm enough. Imagine having to be cooped up from late October (or even sooner) through March or April. Given this NE climate, they will likely be in and out for awhile until we get more permanent warm temps. 🙂

    1. Interesting Philip. I cannot imagine being cooped up but I think they are doing good things. Its a tough call

  10. I had to go on 1 of those duck tours today with friends in town, I’m a tourist for a day ugh

    1. We went on one years ago with my husbands family when they were in town. They are great. Fun to learn little known facts about our own city

We are up to 54.5 here.

  11. The first half of that walk along the river was into the wind and it was CHILLY out there. Coming back, not so bad. 🙂

    1. The wind pretty much ruins it for me! 🙂 Maybe its bc i have to be outside all day.

      1. It is interesting how there can be a “wind chill” with a south wind but I guess that is spring in NE.

        1. The river water is cold. There was certainly a wind chill present along the Cambridge side. 🙂

          1. Chris Lambert on Ch.7 mentioned the cold river yesterday on his 6 pm newscast with all the sail boats. Too bad it will feel as if the river isn’t there a couple months from now when HHH sets in. 😉

          2. I wonder how many people on this blog have
ever gone swimming in the Charles River?

I know of at least one. 😀

            1. I was thinking about the time Governor Weld took a dive into the Charles today as I walked along it… 🙂

            2. I remember the Charles way back and you gotta love that dirty water. I know they’ve come a long way but will leave the dips to weld

  12. FORGET ABOUT 50’s,60’s or 70 FOR TUESDAY, MY LATEST THINKING ALOT OF TOWNS COULD HIT 75 MAYBE 80 DEGREES IN A COUPLE SPOTS 🙂

    1. Some of the guidance supports that. I’m not ruling it out. I’m also not ruling out that Logan may stay in the 50s. It may be one of those days with extreme contrast.

      1. I pulled a tick off my dog last month….unless you get a brutal winter they can stick around.

    1. Nice work Charlie. Great site!! I book marked that one. Nice reference
      site to have. Many thanks

  13. Many errands this PM. Car thermometer topped out at 56, but stayed mostly between 52 and 54. Not too much sun, very windy and it felt quite cool.

Hey, what about Middelbrooks, eh? 4 for 5 with 3 home runs!
I think he’s a keeper. 😀 Lester looked awesome. A much better looking
team this year for sure. Play off caliber? Don’t know. We shall see. No Matter what
    better than last year.

  14. The latest CPC outlook calls for below normal temps for much of the northern tier of the CONUS from the Great Lakes to the west coast with NE at normal temps.

Based on this, even as a non met I can understand TK’s concern for snow “potential” this month…including as late as Earth Day on April 22. It snowed even later back in 1987 (27-28)…20″ for Worcester IIRC.

    1. Absolutely. I’m not seeing any snow in the next 4 days anyway. But you always have those lingering cold pockets that can time JUST right to do it.

Before that though, a taste of summer maybe? As climatology points out, we usually get our first summer hints in April, regardless of whether or not we see any snow during the month.

      1. TK will you share the date. Want to make sure my daughter avoids it if she gets to pick the day she is induced. Even if it doesn’t pan out, no sense taking chances.

          1. She is due 22nd but if she doesn’t have baby this week they will induce the next week She’s small and her first was nearly 9 lbs. this one is bigger according to the ultrasounds

            1. Ah! Well I don’t have any certain dates for when there would be at least a threat of snow other than if timing is right, Friday night could see some flakes mix in somewhere.

              1. Tx. Flakes won’t be a problem. Please let me no if that changes :). We all know if sure can

  15. Bring on the warmth. I NEED THE SNOW TO MELT! Still have 20% coverage with 6″! Snowbank on drive edge is still 2′ for most of the length.

    1. It truly is amazing and to say there planting flowers in southern ri and your melting snow still says alot

        1. Exactly my point, you should hop on 290 and head down 146 south, I’ve done it bc of the business, it goes from dull brown to a variety of colors just south of 295 in RI and no exaggeration there are landscapers scheduled for 1st mowings tommorrow in E.Greenwich RI, have a good day retrac 🙂
